  • In the book the librarian never notices her. I think it would've been a better movie if they had stuck to the book more. The characters are not what I pictured either.

  • I am crying at this moment. So touching! Different America, that's for sure!

  • I don't get everybody who says they've changed this movie from the book. The whole family and Aunt Sissy are just the same as in the book, the kids do the same errands at the shops...naturally they can't put every single minor character in the movie just like in the book, the movie's only 2 hours long. I think Francie is very feminine. She is neat and clean, prides herself on her good manners, does dishes and irons, talks about babies, reads instead of playing baseball...just like I pictured.

  • One of the most flawless child performances ever. Garners subtlety and timing are perfect - a breakthrough of realism in a era of cutesy kids. She's just devastating. A great adaptation of a novel... they have to condense elements for the screen otherwise it would truly be unwatchable. I think this is a classic.

  • For some reason, I thought of Francie as more feminine; that she was more of a little girl... But I like her this way too, she has more of a level head on her shoulders. It is just a shame that she can't live more like a kid and less than an adult. I love her father! He reminds me of mine (Bless his heart may he rest in peace) ^_^

  • Burtons anatomy of melancholy?

  • The off screen loving relationship between James Dunn and Peggy Ann Garner shines through in all of their scenes together.

  • James Dunn is perfect. So handsome and charming :)

  • in the book it said johnny looked really nice but he looks kinda old

  • @dragonscroll98, remember, he's been married at least 10 years and has a drinking problem at this point. I'd say he looks about like he should at this point.

  • Evidently The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences thought James Dunn was perfect for the role.

  • Nope nope, can't even finish the movie..they fucked it up too much. They should have kept exactly the same! It was sooooooo perfect the way it was! >:(

  • Francies is literally about as far away as a person could be from the time and place of her book when knighthood was in flower. Yet she she is clearly transported.

  • I know the actor playing Johnny is not handsome but the actor ( John Dunn?) gives the impression being lit up from the inside ( like a child) , happy go lucky and charming that makes him SEEM handsome even if he isn't really. He plays the character very well!

  • WTF the librarian looked at her!

  • Wow its so different! but like it. Neely and john shoulda looked better tho and katie gorgeous!

  • @cloudyrainbowed i know, they look really strange. the dad is susposed to be young and handsome, and neely is susposed to have golden curls. wow!!

  • i thought that the librarian never looks up or ever looked at francie

  • I was hoping to see a slender good looking Johny. This guy is well is his 40 and nothing like i imagined him.

  • Yes, I pictured Johnny Nolan, being very hansome.

  • he doesnt call her premodana his friend does

  • @quartuci8u In the book he absolutely calls her primadona

  • he has blonde curly hair not black slick hair

  • they changed alot in the movie. in the book henny's got tuberculosis not flossie

  • my god they were so worried about what other thought what a waste

  • Haha this is good cus I'm reading this book and watching the movie makes it a lot easier than reading it.
