robin didnt lose the final to federer, federer made him lose it. the distinct difference between federer and nadal is that nadal likes to outlast players with consistent powerful shots, while federer disturbs his opponents rhythm. you will have to agree federer didnt give soderling too much of a rhythm. and then theres of course the nerves, power under pressure is the mark of a champion. still doesnt take away the fact that nadal's the undisputed king of clay

Nadals was having serious issues and playing through pain. So if you think Nadal was playing 100% and lost to Soderling, that is insane. And I agree with foul01, Fed has a very different approach to matches.. nadal outlasts players

disagree with sagrocket, its matter of playing styles, nadal troubles federer because federer's single backhand does not deal well with high topspin balls, where as soderling is tall enough to smack it right down, soderling, however, being a tall guy does not like to run around to chase down drop shots and lobs, which federer makes him do. so even if soderling was at his best, i highly doubt his chances against the swiss express.

Unfortunately Rafa couldn't play his best tennis, and if you watch some parts of the match you would see that Rafa hit the ball to the middle of the court very often and then it was no problem for Soderling to hit a winner with his strong forehand.
