  • The knife of never letting go...great book. I like this song, too.

  • @Jzadek72 Omg I know right?! I keep thinking spike's gonna bust through the walls at me. But at least that version of the song was somewhat cheery. I'm trying to find the one that wood was playing when spike went all psycho but i can't. But I do like this version. :)

  • I know this song is supposed to be sad and emotional, but since Buffy, it just feels creepy to me.

  • Seen this guy a coupla a times. He is very talented and also very entertaining. Worth a watch if ever you have a chance and like you folk a bit more contemporary.

  • i sang this for a solo alot higher though because i am a saprano!!!!!!!!!!:):):):)

  • Chaos Walking trilogy brought me here as well. I needed to know what Ben was singing!

  • I love buffy, i love spike, i love this song!!!!! (:

  • The Chaos Walking series led me here oh my God. It's real oh my god :'D.

I imagined it so lame compared to this. >w<

  • Thumbs up if you just listened to this song because of Spike off of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. :)

  • Buffy brought me here.

  • I'm only here cos' of 'the knife of never letting go'. I love Ben (character in book) this song is also awesome and so is Jim Moray!

  • I heard this song in Buffy. Yay for pop culture. <3

  • i read the choas walking series and they had this song and i wanted to see if it was real AND ITS AWEZOME! love the melody reminds me of the old golden days before the world wars

  • the lyrics were in the Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness (:

anyone that hasn't read it - READ IT!

    this song is beautiful :)

  • So glad I found this song! The lyrics were in a book I just read. Thanks for the uplaod. :D

  • @crazyizi The Knife of Never Letting Go? :D

Just read it myself, SUCH a good book!

  • @IronShire YES! Haven't read the next one yet. And it's not the kind of book that usually appeals to me, but oh my God, it was awesome! :D

  • I really like this song :) In my choir we sing it a bit faster than this, and with a few different notes

  • beautiful haunting melody. i love it!

  • @tig1960 UR CRAP!!!! I CANT BELIEVE U DISRESPECT SUMBODY SO AWESUM LIKE THAT!!!!!!!!!!! I OUGHT TO SMACK U 4 THAT BUT I CANT :(

  • I love the song but i hate how they edited it and added all that instramental crap. :P

  • Sleeping on the job,eh Jim? It's good to see there's a folk revival in the offing!

  • I so dislike this version of this song. I ADORE the instrumentals, but the way Moray is performing it just ruins the song. He's singing it like it's a pop ballad instead of a folk song.

  • This cover is one of the scariest things I've ever seen. Love the song.

  • I love it when Liz Montgomery sings this song in Bewitched on the episode How Not to lose your head to king henry the eighth

  • I heard somewhere that this song was written for Henry the VIII by Anne Boleyn, anyone know if this is true?

  • It was from the Bodleian Library and it's from around 1803.

  • @notouchification i dont know but it was first discovered as far back as 1787.

  • best version of this song:) when you know what they are singing about, so do you realize that!

  • my thoughts exactly. this is supposed to be depressing.

  • but this song is about a woman who become alone after her husband break up. So.. If become that so would I been depressed - I think. Like this song!

  • wow he has an amazing voice

  • wow..this is capturing. I love this version.

  • interesting version, this makes it sound kinda depressing, probably the different key its in. but it's still a good version of the song.

  • @thatwizard1 it's supposed to be depressing :P

  • I have the Nana Mouskouri version on my MP3 and now im sooooo ganna add this one over!!! This is the best version of this song i've ever heard!!!

  • We do the first verse and chorus as a voice exercise in school.... but its MUCH faster and it sounds really happy when we do it......!?!?!?!?!

  • Different key

I don't see why a song like this should sound happy anyway

  • I dont know how... but it does!!!

  • @DangerYourselfCopies exactly, its a sad song....

  • @DangerYourselfCopies its kinda like rock a bye baby in that respect, if you actually think about it, its not a very good thing at all, but thats just how the song goes :) i grew up with my mum singing me this, but i like the darker version here just as well.

  • @DangerYourselfCopies well it depends on how you enterpet it, usualy its a funny story about a silly girl who thinks shes in love but he only wanted to sleap with her. but i much like you, like to see it in a more sad tone because its a much better song that way :).

  • I think you're singing the original version, wich is in a major key, this one is in E minor.

    I like this one better.

  • Well, since we do it as a voice excersise, it isnt in any one key, we just move up the scale, but yeah, its major. I like this better too.

  • best version of the song on youtube . imo

  • I like his voice, but I like Frank Spencer's version better I think. It has more comedy to it.

  • OMG you ruin the knife of never letting go/the ask and the answer. GOD YOU SOUND LIKE JOHN AND EDWARD! STOP RUINING BOOKS!

  • i really like how he starts but i think it was 2:09 where he got a little progressive... i still like it but some things are best as they are

  • Pretty cool! I like how it switches to a minor key.

I like the original best, but I'm pleased that old songs inspire modern artists.

    =)

  • bloody brilliant it may be different but thats no reason to dislike it.

  • Not good. Some things should not evolve, as they are best in their original forms.

  • Bloody hell, don't go ruining lovely ol songs. This is crap!

  • I really liked it. I love the old tunes, and I love old recordings... but It's also fascinating to watch them change over time... and this is beautiful.

  • Im singing this in my choir at school,

  • spike was singing this is buffy.

    lol gurd sond though.

    x

  • I know it only from Buffy =)

  • what episode???

  • Lies My Parents Told Me. Season 7, Ep. 17

  • BtVS den er med i mange af afsnitne i season 7

  • Bt VS the song is in many of seasons 7 episods

  • I love this version, so haunting!

  • Thanks.... And again the song is beautiful!!

  • I remember when i heard this song on the radio first time, i was so amazed.... i really love this song because of the melody that the violins play...

  • The violin tune is version of a morris dance called Young Collins

  • His voice is so English. I love it. I love being English :D

  • @LarnaDisasterrOx Hardly. He sounds rather american to me. His vowels are so spread and nasally. Barely any English accent at all.

  • this song is in the book "the various" by steve augarde

  • omg I {heart} this song we use to sing it in chorus!

  • I prefer Mouskouri´s version

  • Eine der größten Adaptionen traditioneller Musik, die ich je zu Gehör bekommen habe.

  • I never watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I remember hearing Samantha sing it on the original "Bewitched" series as a child. I think her quite simplicity with the lute was more beautiful than this version. Although, I do like the drama that the synthsizers add Moray's interpretation. I think it might make an interesting piece to choreograph for an ice-skating performance.

  • Yeah, most of the times it's sang by characters. But, I really like this version. It's so deep, and I have a feeling I'm traveling through the England villages. I really can't describe that feeling, but it's so great and fullfilling.

  • Uuuu, I remember this song from Buffy the Vampire Slayer show! It's awesome.

    Jim Moray is excellent!

  • I remember that too, it was like a trigger for Spike^^

    Love this version^^,

  • Who sang the version that triggered Spike?.. I've been searching like crazy..

but yeah, this version is cool..

  • I've been trying to find the other version (Spike) ....

  • I've found it.. It's Nana Mouskouri, who sings the song in the show..

  • The version that triggers Spike is by Nana MOUSKOURI

  • Spike's version is from Nana Mouskouri

  • I was going to see him in Glasgow at Celtic Connections, on 29 jan. Anyone know if he is any good live?

  • ive seen him before and will be again, so i can report that yes hes great

  • @dariogneri Jim is a massive talent. A must see

  • Love this song so much, thanks for the upload
