  • from now on..., I will dreaming that I could sing like her........Oh~!

  • Love it! Thank you!

  • too static! sung like an opera aria. don't like.

  • Great video-I've attached a vid of her with a different accompanist. Definitely sublime live performance. Thanks!

  • Too many rythm mistakes and late!!!!

  • she is awesome here. Bad concentration and totally without the right feeling for the lied. Her voice seems also in bad condition.

  • I have been a big Caballe fan for years but unfortunately the diva makes a major blunder in this song! There is a two bar instrumental interlude between the first and second verses but Caballe loses concentration and comes in after only a bar and a half. You will notice she looks furtively at her accompanist and sings a rather hesitant 'A'. Fortunately, the brilliant Mr. Weissenberg realized instantly what she had done and skipped forward seamlessly. No one was the wiser. Excellent recovery!

  • I love seeing a great artist of her caliber make a mistake. She is human. And she was trying to do the right things. :^)

  • We all know that Caballé is great! And this is another testament of the same. But her pianist here is phenomenal. Bravi!

  • Kein Wort auf deutsch verstanden! Not a single german word was clear at all. She did not have the right voice and diction for Strauss Lieder. Just listen to Margaret Price or Jessye Norman or Sumi Jo sing in german, incomparable!

  • was ihre Aussprache bzw. ihre Diktion angeht, habe ich ehrlich gesagt nichts auszusetzen, doch eher der Tonqualität! She might not be a great Strauss performer because of her voice, but what does it mean, "she did not have the right diction for Strauss' Lieder"? i have heard her several times speaking in German, and although she makes some grammar mistakes, it sounds really good. She definitely can sing in German. Übrigens, manchen bayrischen Prominenten versteht man viel schlechter als sie...

  • take that used a version of this with katherine jenkins on their recent tour! now that was beautiful! thanks guys!!!!!!!

  • Effortless. I appreciate her technique that is not as 'tight' as most singers of this music. No one can match her legato.

  • all she did before singing was to brathe. With Eugenia Kameny. Then she let it go !!!

    Go to 2:28 and weep

  • This and the other Strauss songs from this recital posted here show Caballe not at her best. Sure there is the gorgeous sound, pianissimi, etc., but there are many passing tones out of tune, messy phrasing, and in Wiegenlied too many portamneti. I heard her do this program in NY at Carnegie Hall the same year and it was miraculous. Weissemberg is a great pianist, famous soloist in his day, and plays Strauss beautifully.

  • This is not Monteserrat´s at her best. She is not a great Strauss performer. Please, listen to Jessey Norman singing Wiegenlied. That´s perfection.

  • "She is not a great Strauss performer"? She begans her career singing Strauss in Switzerland. I agree, that is not her best performance but a better version with orchestra of this song are available.

  • Does it really matter if she started by singing Strauss in Switzerland ? Caballé has been a highly skilled soprano for decades, in fact one of the very best of her generation, but that doesn´t necessarily make her a great interpreter of the songs of Strauss. No singer ever was good at everything. Or is Caballé the exception to the rule?

  • Just listen to her recital with the final scene of "Salome" and some Strauss songs (Deutsche Grammophon) conducted by Lenny Bernstein. The song "Morgen" is absolute perfection - Montserrat was one of the best Strauss performers of the past.

  • TY -- it's the word "Schinen" that lets the light through.

  • It's nice, but I prefer Schwarzkopf...

  • This is one of Strauss's most beautiful songs. However, Caballe's interpretation is not to my taste nor is her voice. I know it's a matter of preference, but I wish someone could post a version by Norman, Janowitz (sp?), Te Kanawa or Isokoski...

  • beautiful, my dearest favourite...
