  • Wonderful documentary, Very important to share teachers ways of teaching, because a personal vision from the heart of a teacher towards a student is worth more that any any premashed learning books taught rationally. Thankyou for making and sharing

  • All theese guys in here.. In this class by this AWESOME teacher will be great people in the future. Well, of course, they are great now too, but, you know, they will be great.. you know what i mean.. i hope so. and i decided that i want my children to live in Japan! to study in Japan! I think that there are maany great people. not like here in europe.... so a want to my children a great teacher like this one, great classmates like theese ones.

P.S. sorry for my bad english.. i am still studying

  • This reminded me of a weird difference in asian and western education. In asia (or at least where I came from), it is those who perform poorly in school that are picked on and looked down upon, whereas in western schools it seems to be the high performers who are degraded as 'nerds' and ostracized.

  • What was really wonderful is that at this age they are being taught the truth about where children come from, not being fed lies that stunt their intellectual growth.

  • God, I wish teachers in Australia were that awesome...

  • This show is the best. The Passionate Eye :)

  • 素晴らしい道徳教育だ。

    道徳教育には反対派が懸念しているような負の側面もあると思ってるけど、それは教師の正しい教育方法によって帳消しになる。こういうのはどんどんやって欲しい。

  • if only things were like this at my school, maybe then I wouldn't have suffered for 15 months after giving up on the hope that my teachers would help me.This class of 10 year old children restores a bit of my faith in the world, origato kanamori-san

  • Ayami! I want to give you a big hug!

  • So when does the happy year start? :((((((((((

  • What you people are saying is the complete opposite of what he's teaching. You feel the need to separate Americans and Japanese, and deride people by their nationality. It seems like a lot of people learned nothing from watching this documentary.

  • @xnwn That's how things tend on the internet tend to be viewed, from a defensive or judgmental position, it sucks

  • 5:03 Kirby!

  • Hmm this is very moving, but I really can't see this happening in an American public school, all of time is absolutely crammed to the brink with learning material so there really isn't any time for emotional development like this.

  • this...this is so beautiful.

  • A teacher like this, who makes his students believe in him and trust him, he can really move something. Maybe it's because the sense of community in Japan is stronger than in western countries, but his way of teaching, of being both a friend and a strict tutor while really telling those children what's important in life and not letting something like bullying go ... he is really someone I would call a hero. These children are so blessed to have such a wonderful teacher.

  • he is what a teacher is all about, your suppose to inspire your students and make them feel love and comfortable with opening up your feelings to ppl that care about you. i remember when i was in school all the teachers did was yell and bitch because they cant handle one or 2 students and it changes their whole view on teaching for most of the year.. shame shame =/

  • I have to tip my hat to this teacher.

  • i see the point of what this man is saying u should let your feelings out and put yourself into that persons situation and know how it would feel if that was you. although crying in public will make u get hurt because a lot of people in this world are very shallow, especially american teenagers. The world seems to become more and more complicated with their views from the media what ever happened to good romodels?

  • @mrkittylovesyou In their community, it's seen as okay becuase people WILL go up to you and ask you what's wrong. It won't be like in America where your torn down even further. This man.

  • I think there are no doors to create an open environment in the school. It seems as nobody cares when the little girl was talking but remember that every person has his own way to react on someones emotions.

  • Comment removed

  • @LeBaronNoir100 Actually, just after she finishes, you can hear a kid in the background explaining what she said to someone else. So at least 2 people were interested.

  • @benfrenchman i didn't see that but there uninterested faces are funny.

  • Awwww the little girl at the end ;(

  • why are there no doors ??

  • @carmelidis The doors are on sliders, not hinges and therefore do not have turn-knobs.

  • 5 people have no hearts

  • I am going to become Prime Minister of Australia and make some big changes. :D

  • @xXFlyleafXx Please Do.

  • Kids are so full of amazing potential, they just need the right people to guide them and help them become great people; they cannot do it on their own.

  • How do you know they aren't like this behind cameras? I doubt this works in all Japanese schools.

  • ganbate!

  • So powerful! Not letting any one get away with hollow phrases either. The perfect example of how to transform a negative into a positive: these children will never thoughtlessly bully another, because they went thoroughly through the emotional processing of all the emotions and excuses that led them there. I would wish they would use this documentary at all teacher's training, someone sharing his heart completely without ever getting too mushy!

  • this man is way inspirational, he is who I want to be when I have children

  • This documentary is very powerful. Forget the fact it isn't in English, show it to American schools! We can read subtitles!

  • little asain kids are so cute!!!! :3

  • Boy i wish I had him as a teacher when i lived in Japan, most of my teachers were super strict and gave a beating to many students. so one thing to all of you who think all Japanese teachers are kind like him,NO most japanese teachers are pure hell at least from 1 to 7 grade..

  • I like how he recovers a potentially negative moment. The young girl at the end could have ended up feeling really bad about not stepping up to protect her peer but the teacher came up to her with empathy and said they understood. He made it safe for her to have done what she did. It's so important to close the loop when stories are used.

  • if there is man like this man in every school on this world. there will be a big change in the world.

  • TO BE HAPPY!!!

makes entire class cry every day

    this man is a genius

  • I hope this kind of education can be realized further. The world is such a mess because of an inherited culture of fear. We raise children in our own image to prepare them for the way the world is, not to equip them with the knowledge they need to re-design it around our true compassionate and empathatic nature. Let's take our kids out of state schools. Let's give talks at our local schools on this topics. Talk with our neighbours. Let's stop emotionally abusing our kids.

  • Teachers day celebrations are only deserve for this kind of teachers...those great one..

  • Pure LOVE in action ...more than 'wonder'ful ....

  • neat

  • The North American education system is so lacking in comparison. Wow.

  • @NateZen This teacher is great but he doesn't represent the Japanese education system. And even in North America, there are such great teachers. It's not a nation matter or a matter of different education systems. It's rather just a matter of great individuals, and they're present all over the world regardless of the country. Unfortunately they're so few!

  • @WorldOfSnakes well put. and hell of a monicker!!!

  • @effik3 Thanks. You're saying that you like "WorldOfSnakes" ?

  • These videos are fascinating to watch. Theyre sad yet heartwarming and hopeful :,) i started tearing up watching this

  • when i watch this now i realy understand why japanese people are one of the best behavior and the most productive people in the world i wish to be japanese :(

  • 2:35...

    "there in your heart"!?

"there, in your heart" would be grammatically correct. So would, "they're in your heart" but, THERE IN YOUR HEART!? WHO THE FUCK DID THESE SUBS!? AN ORANGE!?

  • @SirSexyAlot DONT SWEAR!!!

  • The average 10 year old in that class has more emotional intelligence than the average American high school student, it's sad.

  • @FlawdaFootball america is too soft on the educational system!

  • @FlawdaFootball Thats because americans have their resources, some dont, its true, but definantly not the average high schooler, i should know, i lived in Japan, and why are you comparing the two?

  • @FlawdaFootball What is sad is the reasons why this is the case: lack of proper guides and role models.

  • @FlawdaFootball What do American students have to do with this? Are you implying students in Russia or India would have more emotional intelligence? Fuck no.

  • @NeoTranshuman they do. americans are shit

  • Indeed...I had almost lost faite on teachers today but when a video show this sort of a teacher it gives back hope for kids

  • Happy is important to every one to love to learn and happy is my life. I wish more teacher like him all over the world.

    Thank you

  • 一定要繼續看完五個片子,定能有所感動與體會

  • Its so nice to see children in such a caring environment.

We all need to realise the the children brought into this world are moulded through their parents, environment and experiences and life itself. Whe you are young your absorb everything like a sponge and that will determine that childs personality, happiness and how it will affect them.

As adults it is our duty to help bring up the children of the world by teaching them to become a better version of ourselves and to be as happy as can be

  • @mic3330

Yes but sadly most teachers no longer have any time to do that. First it was "Every child Left Behind" & now it's "Race to the Bottom": everything to take some test & demonstrate to our future employeers how good we can be at serving them, no matter how meaningless the task.

So I agree with you, but the politicians have other ideas. The kids & society in general will only get worse.

  • I wish I had a teacher like him? :(

  • Interesting. Bullying has been an epidemic since the whole instituation of school began. There have been cases were perents take their kids out of one school to another instead of dealing the bullies themselves and confronting the perents. Lets also not forget that this is also one of the causes for many of the fights in schools. This is an issue that needs to be dealt with more and more severely. Time for Part 2.

  • @Chuloloc That's Part 3.

  • No matter what you do in the West, there's too much emphasis on "freedom" & "individuality" than "obligation" & "community" to let any sort of code of ethics or morality to set in. You really can't care about other people, when you're only looking out for Number 1. They always say "Blame it on the parents or the school. It's their responsibility." The truth is that adults would expect children to solve their own problems, with vicious, ugly, and deadly results.

  • @3:45-THAT'S how you nip violence in the bud!!! Kanamori-san grasps it better than almost anyone: This is how violence in society anywhere in the world begins and MUST be confronted early. If I had the money, I would personally fly this man to the States and have him give workshops that will in time become MANDATORY for each and every educator in this country! Domo Arigato, Kanamori-san!!!

  • This makes me want to wish that I would have had a teacher like him.

  • it's a good documentary, i liked it! But he is also balancing very dangerous, in the way he drives those young students he also might making them believe that they have done wrong (on purpose) due to their age. At that stage they can't really differ from reality and deep inner self looking point of views. Anyway, i want more of this psychology in school, it would change a lot. Thanks.

  • I wish there were more teachers like this man. If there had been, I and other people I know who've suffered bullying would've had it dealt with earlier. When I told my grade 5 teacher that some kids were bullying me, she labelled me as "too sensitive". I persisted until finally they were talked to by the teacher and principal. But the bullying continued. If we'd had this teacher, it would have stopped. Or if it had started again, it would have been dealt with again.

  • @VannahWilson i was bullied too and told a teacher...she said the exact same thing to me...that i was too sensitive...she even had me go out in the hallway and she talked to me and the bully..made it seem as though it was my fault...and she went as far as saying my whole family is that way...because she taught my aunt....i still dont respect her much as a teacher

  • @thunderheart77049 I don't blame you. How could anyone respect a teacher like that? Perhaps I *was* being oversensitive, but as adults, teachers should be able to recognize that bullying is defined by how the victim feels, not by the bully's intentions.

  • What kind of camera was used for this?

  • @uchegab bless you ! if that is all you saw in this wonderful clip, then you missed out big time.. your response is an example of your own lack of empathy. there was so much laughter and joy, so much pride, courage, bravery, compassion.

  • @uchegab bless you ! if that is all you saw in this wonderful clip, then you missed out big time.. your response is an example of your own lack of empathy. there was so much laughter and joy, so much pride, courage, bravery, compassion.

  • Perhaps us in the west should focus more on teaching our children ethics rather than religion. I like how this man's philosophy is very down-to-earth, and focuses on how our actions affect each other; no mention of God either. Absolutely profound and amazing.

  • amazing documentary...Inspirational and educational, thank you for posting it.

  • This man restores my faith in human beings.

  • @gandacel I was thinking exactly that... this man will forever be my role model.

  • i hope to become a teacher like him! lots of respect gives hope for our society

  • im middle school 6th grade-8th grade.i was pick on in school.because they said i was a stupid retared bastard.i wanted to make friends but all those student in school treat differently at me.then other people.they say bad words and they even try to beat me up.

  • @Tronnixx

People can be messed up. But at least knowing how it feels you can comfort and encourage others who feel that way and in that their is more strentgh then bullying.

  • I'm so happy that so many are still viewing this video and commenting.

  • THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING THIS VIDEO...They are lucky kids, I hope there will more like him in future.

  • I'm so glad to read most of your discussions. If seeing this video helps just one person see the potential for changing our educational system, it was worth posting. I also hope you are able to see the rest of the series. aloha!

  • I can see how Japan needs this. If you lived here you'd realize just how significant this is. Japanese people are usually taught to hide their true feelings, and are only allowed to show it when they're drunk. But this teacher realizes that children need to learn how to express themselves in times of trouble. He knows that locking it up is more painful than showing it. I wish more Japanese teachers would realize this.

  • wow this is deep!

  • This teacher is awesome! I'm glad Japan is a cool country and not killing themselves for the emperor anymore.

  • @Taxidriverdeniro yea, instead they kill themselves to save their families from debt and also from depression. Every day on the train....

  • thank you 4 uploading this video

  • I LOVE SCHOOL JAPANESSE

  • am glad to hear that you have outgrown thoughts of suicide and pray that you find purpose in life and be proud of being tall - a genetic trait that some of us "shorties" wish we had.

  • @dancingcat96828 Tell me about it XD

  • @NanaNarcotic . Not sure what you mean about XD? Can you elaborate?

  • @dancingcat96828 Oh, it's just an emoticon, like this ":D" or "XD"

  • @NanaNarcotic ahhhh...so des!

  • Makes me want to become a teacher so I could spread his message.

  • These children should be well equiped for the future.

  • this teacher is fantastic, these children will be happy people later

  • shit. at that age they are so intune with life. i wish that schools here in canada would start something like this. the school system; public and catholic, seems to lack care of the students who enter the doors. they will pass students, ignore those they think have no use. japanese schooling should be set as an example for all schooling across the nations. thats my opinion

  • class must be a emotional rollercoaster everyday lolol , parents are wondering why their kids come home crying everday day lol. still a tight way of educating tho

  • @k04sk A bit late, but i want to correct something you said: I think those kids come home with a big radiant smile on their faces, because they are in a caring environment. Letting the bad things out makes it easier to process them and they can relate to others which makes them happier kids, and adults.

  • He has lots of rewards, every single child he teaches is a living 'honour' better than any prize given away at a ceremony :)

  • No title or reward can give justice to this mans compassion.

  • This concept of teaching emotional feelings is good but I think it's kind of early to be taught to 4th graders.

  • @MixMeAdrink: I would respectfully disagree.

You have to teach kids to learn to shift their "mental camera" to someone elses point of view.

But i would agree that this kind of teaching should be incorporated well past primary school.

  • @MixMeAdrink hmm i dont know. they all seem able to understand each other and express themselves quite adequately. this is when humans are the most impressionable. why not teach them how to deal with the emotions?

  • Comment removed

  • @MixMeAdrink -The earlier the better, I think.

  • i wish they taught this in England then it might not be a crap shack

  • Sensei-sama needs to be rewarded with an honor... Reminds me of my grandmother... Always approachable, caring, and says the kindest words... R.I.P. Obachan...

  • wow, it is really touching to see this. I wish i had a teacher like that. I was bullied for several years too. I know how it feels...

  • He kind of reminds me of onizuka from GTO because he's so focused on helping the kids with life values instead of just test scores. :)

  • i cannot understand how people can laugh or blame other people for being different. they should look at themselves first before making fun of or laugh at other people. (srry for my bad english)

  • i wish there more teachers like him all over the world

  • @SuL3AnA 100000000% agreed!

i wish i couldve had him as my teacher at that age it wouldve helped me learn and expand my mind much earlier than i did & prevented me from making many of the mistakes ive made

  • I wish teachers were like that in Ontario. But they don't get paid enough to care. Oh well.

  • That's not the problem. Their payment is to see the joy and harmony in their class/school and to know that they teach the students not only math and language skills, but good values for life.

  • @SesaruMKM They still need to be paid for being a professional, you idiot.

  • awsome teacher, all elementary teacher should learn from that... I never imagined japan to have such a good teacher.

  • Really glad CBC managed to put this out

  • @BGterrorist

they arent like that in japan either..... its just this teacher in this school

  • from being in kindergarten throughout elementary and middle school and I'm an 8th grader now, I've been picked on because I'm tall. People call me Giant ,Bigfoot and monster. But like someone commented on here, I say "thank you" and brush it off, well I've gotten used to the comments people gave me. And right now i could really care less. but when i was younger i became suicidal because the students treated me differently than others.

  • Children ... they pick the most superficial things to pick on!

I wish i was taller than what i am

  • I was picked on when I was 12 cuz I was overweight ..(which isn't my fault...have a sickness)and all the kids laughed at me and said really harsh things to me..and whenever I got mad they always went like " OH NO!! She's mad! she's gonna eat us all" and everyone (almost the whole skool) would run away from me ._.

  • The most important aspect is that you stood up for yourself by getting angry! many are to weak even to show that!

  • Yeah... Kids suck sometimes, my friend is over weight, but me and all my friends were so cool lol We were like the anti bully team xD We always saved nerd kids and they joined our group lol We were such nerds, but we were all good people and we had lots of fun back in the day! Video games, drawing pictures, sword fighting with broom handles lol I miss thoughs days xD

  • damn great teacher

  • At school theirs always going to be bullies, and I admit sometimes I get teased I either tell them to shut the fuck up and look at the mirror or I hit them or beat them up or if I don't really want to deal with it I tell them thank you and brush it off

  • This is a great teacher

  • I was made fun of for having little money having an afro and because i went to the learning center mainly for concentration. it was aweful older kids would run away from me and called me a freak all the time in elementry school and it makes it so much harder if u dont have any friends. i eventually ignored them and im glad to say i have a best friend who is awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • now so many wish to be asian^^

  • I wish i had a Teacher like hem

  • These kids are lucky. When I went to elementary school in Vietnam, all teachers were liable to smack you with a ruler. Classes must stay quiet until lunch time and during nap time, if a teacher sees someone whose still awake, they hit you really hard with a ruler. And it wasn't even catholic school. But...If I had stayed there, maybe I'd turn out...mature? American schools sure are laid back. I'm kinda regretting moving to America.

  • woops I meant Kindergarten. Not elementary

  • He's a kind and understanding teacher...

    ^^,

  • This teacher would be a great psychiatrist

  • There would be no need for psychiatrists if teachers, and parents, were able to understand child's needs ...

  • All those criticizing teachers and guidance counselors need to spend a week in the classroom. US classrooms are limited to what teachers are allowed to do and what they "have" to cover by state law. Unfortunately, tests are guiding today's classrooms. If you think teachers are doing their job "just for a paycheck" then you need to look at the ratio of teacher salaries to hours spent working. I know hundreds of teachers, who given the time and opportunity, would teach just as well as Mr. Kanimori.

  • And who actually do teach that way as often as they can!

  • Yes, this is what the news often ignores when they try to implicate teachers as the cause of falling US standing among other nations. I recently read that the standardized tests were demanded by the real estate industry because school standing affects the price of homes, and they need a numerical way to tell customers which house is worth what, and without numbers, "good" is just an opinion. Has nothing to do with quality education, everything to do with speculation.

  • i had a very soft and loving teacher. her name was sydney slayden, and she was so much like this teacher. she was the best teacher i could ever have for 5th grade. the tears are pouring out my face as i write this, because my 5th grade is over

  • yeah get over it baby, you were probably too innocent to know at that time but she had her hands all over ur crouch trying to stimulate you.

  • I started crying on part 1.

  • same here :(

  • wow,o

  • I think I'll be in tears before even getting to Part 3

  • ,me too!

  • In my school, the teacher would have been reprimended for "putting his hands on her & hugging her". Teachers don't want to risk being labeled a molester...Sad, what our society has become....

  • Completely right.

  • @dancingcat96828

Yeah, americunts would rather molest their children than actually help them.

  • @mirimiripipim geez. mirimiripipim would rather be hateful than try to be like this great man.

  • @dancingcat96828 - You are very right. I wish that in all countries, teachers and students could have the connection they have in Japan without being labeled. It creates a warmer, more open environment for growing up.

  • @dancingcat96828

Yeah it's sad, one of the reasons I as a man don't feel like becoming a teacher. Some people will always suspect men taking care of children of being perverts, unfortunately.

  • @dancingcat96828 no no no people in the US dont want to risk it cuze the US is full of phsycos and molesters so the goverment will think that the teacher is just one of them

  • @moad Yes, our U.S. culture is different from Japan's, however, this teacher has Heart & Empathy and so many don't want to risk showing their emotins....the kids gotit!

  • @dancingcat96828 are u living in america?

  • @zZhOrNyZmOnSTeRZz Yes, I grew up and live in Hawaii...As a substitute teacher for 15 years, I have yet to see a teacher that practices the warmth, patience and understanding that Mr. kanezawa exhibits. But then, I don't see/know all the teachers in K-12 so I shouldn't be so judgemental...As anywhere else, there are "good" teachers and so-so teachers but their UNION protect them all. I believe that having and belonging to a union in the "old days" was necessary - not any more!

  • @dancingcat96828 I know. It's sick. One of my teachers told the class that if a girl came in his room crying, he would send us straight to the guidance councilor. It's so sad.

  • @dancingcat96828 yes, both understandable and sad.... for a while I felt fear of jugment everytime I even looked at a child. Now I do my best to be natural and not give into the fear of jugment. Just be sensitive. If you are coming from a place of sensitivity and innocense it will be felt. Otherwise, it is better to refrain especially in a formal setting such as the classroom.

  • @claudelebel55: are you a new teacher?

  • @dancingcat96828 nope. I was a high school teacher and retired long ago. With adolescents it was mostly out of the question. Use your jugment.

  • the girl was really cute when she kept saying happy... but seriously awesome teacher... the children were really being taught to be caring n considerate... those kids learned a valuable lesson a lesson that some adults nvr learn

  • Children Full of Life Part 1-5 ... how can anyone made this kind of videos!!!! They made me cry!!!!! =(

Its very encouraging to know that there is this special teacher who is able to touch the lives of these children in his class... where can we find more of him?? Can we clone him?
