It's an electric heating thermostat. It turnes the lights on and off to keep the beer at a steady temp.

I have found that with soda bottles you have to add more than the standard 1/2 teaspoon sugar per 12 Oz., because the bottles flex. (Not much, but enough to flatten your beer) I now go with at least a teaspoon per 12 oz. when using soda bottles.

lol awesome Craig. Hey I tried a hookah on Halloween at my friends house, but I need to get some of that flavored tobacco that you use. The stuff that I smoked was not the same :( . It was these rock things that you have to heat and torch. I also got my friend into those backwoods that you like. I think that they have a good taste to them
