I know this is very late but here goes. They decided to make the character design in this game more anime like to try to gain a younger audience but the fans were not happy at all and it was changed back to it's dark, Gothic style after Portrait of Ruin was released. SOTN wasn't trying to appeal to the kids and an anime intro like this one was unheard of and stupid.

@DCstar Well, it's kinda hard to make that Gothic art-style full animated. You have to remember that this game was made by the Japanese, like all great video games. If you don't like it, go play Bram Stoker's Dracula or something.
