It should have showed more of Brian. Most of the stage Phantoms are much more effective when you see them in person. I'm rather partial to Franc singing Music of the Night, since I ran into Franc in a bar once, sang for him there, and then he paid for my drinks. But its nice to hear someone other than Michael Crawford sometimes... and Gerard Butler never should have been let anywhere near Phantom of the Opera.
No other male skater can skate with emotion that Brian Boitano put into his programs. The new guys can do the quads but they don't interpret the music nearly as well.
You may not realize this but he is the world's longest running Broadway Phantom with 2600 performances. I saw him live in Marshalltown Iowa in 2005. He is my family's top favorite phantom forever.
LADIES & GENTLEMAN I GIVE YOU MR. FRANC D. ABROSIO IN THIS VIDEO THE WORLD'S LONGEST RUNNING BROADWAY PHANTOM WITH A TOTAL OF EITHER 2600 OR 26000 PERFORMANCES AS THE BROADWAY PHANTOM
I agree great video. I love watching this figure skating video. Franc D. Ambrosio is performing Music Of The Night & I got to meet him here in Marshalltown Iowa in 2005 in the Marshalltown Auditorium.
I Love Brian as well and wish i could have seen more of him. This guy is okay and Butler was okay but Michael Crawford owns Butler and sings this more sensually then this gentleman. I'm not saying that because Michael was the original but I've seen the film, both clips of this version and I've seen Michael live and Michael was flat out more eerie, seductive, mysterious and sexy then Gerard. Plus Mike made me ball like a baby and he can sing which GB can't.
That is Franc D. Ambrosio performing in this video live while Brian Boitano skates to Franc D. Ambrosio's Music Of The Night from Phantom Of The Opera Broadway production. He is the world's longest running Broadway phantom of 2600 or 26000 performances.
@colinmcphan this guy was the phantom for 6 years and over 2,400 shows. he performed with our choir at my school and trust me he is better, not saying the other two are bad but this guy is better
Sorry but they should have used Michael Crawfords version. Before anybody yells at me...Michael originated the role of Phantom(even if he had not it would still be my favorite),Michaels voice is just more powerful then this guy or Gerrys(and I'm not saying I don't like GB in other things)and much more sensual.I also noticed after wacthing several MOTN videos with MC that he could sing it higher or lower.
The singer is played the Phantom on stage for over 5 years. His voice has a different style and is, I think, more fitting to the song. His voice is so powerful, and his hand gestures are straight out of his performance on stage. I'm not sure anyone who's seen a great Phantom on stage would ever prefer Butler's voice.
Definitely more Brian and less movie clips would have been great.
Brian did an awesome job, as did the singer. His song was done in more of the actual musical version style, where the Phantom is a tenor with that kind of airy song, whereas movie Phantom is made darker and more mysterious (and more sexy). And he didn't make up lyrics. Phantom is one of the musicals that is very organic and dynamic. Minor words and note holds are changed as the musical grows and evolves.I would have preferred to see more Brian and less random clips from the movie.
Okay, now I love Gerard Butler as the Phantom because I think he's perfectly cast personality wise and also for the performance. DOM was amazing, PonR was incredible, but even *I* have to admit that he left a little to be desired in MotN.

@sueintexas
The "new" skating is all about the jumps, not skating. I find I no longer enjoy watching it. Would rather find Brian and Michelle on you-tube.

I agree. More Brian would have been better. I was yelling at the TV screen when this aired.

Are you kidding me? Why didn't he go on stage then? Because he can't sing.
