I've been living and working in mainland China for more than seven years now. I wish I could work here! Coming originally from NYC, I can speak to the fact that Shanghai does have a similar vibe to New York. It's a vibrant and exciting place to live and work. And Ubisoft is a truly great game company! (So... do I have the job yet?) ;-)
The biggest problem is the boss of Ubisoft shanghai, a woman totally incompetent and with serious problem of attitude, a former nurse who becomes studio director only by internal relations.
wow, looks like she is real famous, I am not even in shanghai, but i know the stories about her as well. yeah it's a pain
Be carefull, the studio is nice but the internal system is different !!! Karata 1979 is right. In fact, expats just stay at Ubi Shanghai only for money, but the atmosphere is really bad. Ubisoft Shanghai is awesome. :P Splinter Cell 2 and 4 were both developed by them and are both quality games. ^^ It really makes me proud of being a Shanghainese (I'm from Shanghai, hehe).

It's true China is a crap hole. I'm from the states and have been working in Guangzhou China Guangdong Province for over 2 years and I have nothing good to say about this place. I scoped out the Shanghai place early on and its basically like every other business in China, pay workers little money to make poor quality productions. Don't believe the China Hype. It's incredibly frustrating in the "Middle Kingdom".
Wow, they managed to film Shanghai when it wasn't smog filled or traffic slowed to a standstill. What day did that happen? :P I go to Shanghai a lot and it is VERY VERY cool if you are single. Great food and activities... However if you have a family then I highly advise against moving there. I don't think UbiSoft would hire a family man to go there anyways.
damn, that's incredible, working in ubisoft shanghai has become my dreams, I'm current taking computer science in the US, which included computer programing, video games design, etc. I hope I can work in ubisoft shanghai after graduate college...by the way, I'm Chinese...lol
Nice video~* Yes, we have to face the bad sides of Shanghai as well. But everything has two aspects. As long as they like Shanghai, it is the right place for them. So they have to ignore the negative sides of it. Plus, they want more overseas employees to join them. They definitely have to show the positive sides of Shanghai. As a Shanghaiese, I luv this video~!haha~*
lol. A lot of stuff they say is true about Shanghai. However, one thing that China lacks at a lot of restaurants is good service. The buses and subways are always overcrowded. People don't move outta the way if you wanna get off the train because the people getting onto the subway are pushing you back in. Freaking hilarious.
This is basically a video to sell a Shanghai posting to employees that Ubisoft wants to move overseas, right? I mean, Shanghai has lots of expats, but not *that* many.

Ubi soft shanghai and they SUCKS!
1rt they don t provide working visa!
2nd they pay you like shit
3nd If you you r not friend with long term ubi staff you have no chance to get another contract
4th they r exactly like all those big companies: smile in front of you and stab you in the back
5th the budget they use for game is not directly invest FOR the game but for fatty producers!
It is the worst working experience I had!
