  • FUCK THE UAW.

  • Holy shit! Fourteen bucks an hour for unskilled labor? You people are a bunch of over paid fucking morons. Job should be minimum wage other wise you are insulting burger flippers at McD's

  • @032490mf Watch your language, Dad. I'm sorry but anyone who thinks $14/hr for 30yrs of backbreaking work that enables every ¢ of profit these corps ever make = "entitlement" is hard to take seriously. So is the notion all we need to fix this economy is for the unemployed and/or under-paid to magically become "entrepreneurs." How? With what? You need capital to be a capitalist. And who would want a loan from a bank even if they could get one? So yeah, let's organize McD's to pay a real wage.

  • @FlintPublic Last i look it's $29/hr average. $14 is entry level. Don't make it sounds like all UAW workers make that little. And that's not including the benefits. BUT DON'T WORRY... I will train my kid to work less hard and put in less effort . Tell them not to go to college, not to pursue anything great, screw all them white collars and screw the intellectuals. Education is overrated. Everybody should be paid the same. Better yet let's be communists.

  • @endlessace The entry level wage ($14/hr) constitutes the new normal, the new "worth of labor" – don't make it sound like it isn't. And anyone whose naive view of capitalism and meritocracy holds that unions are some sort of crutch for the unable or unambitious can hardly claim to be a defender of educated intellectuals.

  • @FlintPublic I thought $14 are for the temporary entry level. But that's not the point. The point is you guys are lazy and unambitious!!! IF you think you deserve better than move on to a job that requires a higher level skill set. BUT WAIT, you are making the same amount with all the people with college degrees. MAYBE we should all form Unions and demand an increase in salary as well. And price for everything will go up. And your whooping $14 is only worth $7. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

  • @endlessace Have prices on autos been cut in half since the UAW gave all those concessions back in 2007? Have they gone down at all? Better ask those highly skilled accountants what the matter is, huh? I kid. Because apparently the economics lessons they teach you in college about "perfect worlds" and "rational behavior" stay there. Go figure! PS: I'm all for your One Big Union idea.

  • @FlintPublic Wasn't the automotive industry in a hole and the cut back was to get it on par? you shamelessly forgot that we American tax payers bailed you people out. The cut back was your industry to SURVIVE. And apparently you never been to college so please stop thinking that economics is about "perfect worlds". Economics is about making the best of the imperfect world. It seems like you';re sitting on your ass all day long with all these quick responses. Give economics a try!!! READ!!!

  • @endlessace I read & think & question & think some more. You parrot. Labor has been less than 10% of Big 3 production costs for yrs prior to the bailout. You won't read this in Econ textbooks or the corp press, but for 30 yrs the Big 3 invested their money into overseas production, not into US pension obligations, not into alt energy designs etc. With that domestically created wealth safely outside US bankruptcy jurisdiction, they could cry bankrupt to shred domestic UAW contracts. What skill!

  • @FlintPublic Alternate Energy cars..how do those sell in this day and age.

  • Myself and many others no longer by union made products (vehicles). We will be dammed to support the entitlement class. You libertards think everyone owes you something. Get an education then do your own salary negotiations. Uunion scum are nothing more then fucking cockroaches

  • Gee! I can balance my check book just fine and I am not a Wall Street banker

If this bozo doesn't like his salary then he needs to look elsewhere or start his own company

UNIONS are nothing but a communist organization consisting of the scum of America.

  • The bailout should have not happened without some control. We will give you the money, if YOU agree to disassemble the union. UAW ran General Motors into the ground. Period

  • @zeppelin67637 This popular narrative simply does not match reality. Bankers - not autoworkers - brought about the bailout. Who has since sacrificed? Big 3 labor costs (wages & benefits) were less than 10% of total production costs before the UAW "agreed" to half wages (to $14/ hr.) and agreed to remove retiree health care from the companies' books and take it on themselves (VEBA). That was "control." And many union members would characterize such give-backs as "disassembling" the union.

  • Union workers are socialist scum. They often make 100k a year plus while their non-mafia connected counterpart is denied the right to work in the field. They send jobs over seas and threaten the financial stability of business they work for. My Great-grandfather was murdered by union workers for refusing to strike. Of course when they spend their money they enjoy the low prices of a competitive markets, but other Americans have to pay artificially inflated prices for the goods they produce.

  • @riorio23 Very sorry to hear about your great-granddad. Unforgivable. As are the murders of those for wanting to organize a union. Here's hoping that the labor movement needed to raise the quality of life for workers being exploited all over the world in the name of "financial stability" is not that bloody.

  • 10 UAW members combined don't have the IQ of a head of lettuce. UAW members are human waste. Actually human waste has a use, UAW members don't.

  • @mildot986 Maybe we should feed them to the genius, brave, and infallible banking class as a delicacy? Class superiority has its privileges , no?

  • wsws.org/articles/2010/oct2010/lake-o21.

    shtml

UAW deal paves way for 100 percent low-wage workforce at Michigan GM plant

  • The UAW ruined my fathers life and my life. These butt heads bullied me to buy all kinds of crap and a house claiming "You're paycheck was negotiated for a home purchase!" They also wanted me sick to justfy the medical benefits. Screw these uneducated morons. Who gives a damn about your "Job" when you just fart around to get overtime you negotiated. UAW ruined my family - screw them ALL! The ultimate Anti-American...YOU DON"T WANT TO WORK! When I did, you were offended!

  • @williamjh2010 Don't know the details of your experience, but you'll find no disagreement from me as far as the UAW leadership is concerned. Democratic, shop-floor unionism where working people defend each other on the job and in their community is the last best hope against American corporatism. That's what the union members in this video fight for everyday, ever way. Hard to fault that.

  • What a bunch of slovenly, dirty, overweight slobs! Too bad you lardasses don't "work" this hard when you're at, ahem, "work?"

  • wow strike for years and years and bleed the company dry now u want people to feel sorry for your loss of jobs! your years of striking is the cause! Dont have a job THANK A UNION!

  • @rpy75 Bled dry? Please. For decades, these companies invested contractually agreed-upon deferred compensation (pensions) overseas, away from US bankruptcy jurisdiction, then cried poor when those workers who created that wealth with 30 years of labor sought the compensation promised them. What a convenient way to bust unions & neuter the whole working class. Don't have a job/ living wage? Blame a free trade agreement. Or just keep discounting the value of your hard work for rich do-nothings.

  • @FlintPublic

    Unions SUCK!

    1. Unions are the death of the American Economy.

    2. Anywhere you shop, it will cost you more than shopping at a non-Union company.

    3. Union workers are LAZY, UNEDUCATED, SPOILED, and DEMANDING.

    4. Union Workers make cheap, substandard CRAP that falls apart.

    5. Union Workers feel entitled to make big money for doing jobs any retard/monkey could do.

    6. Unions are nothing more than scams who rip-off their member's dues, and retirement funds.

    Ya MOWRONS!!!

  • @IPOMonster You hear that, nurses, pilots, sanitation workers, teachers, and all you other mindless, worthless backbones of society? See, IPOmonster, the presumptions that your ideological certainty forces you to embrace without nuance does more than make you vilify your neighbors, it makes you ignore reality in favor of Glen Beck talking point parroting. And that makes you impossible to take seriously. Seriously.

  • These are some uninformed angry people.

  • When you say things like "If this money isn't given to us, we're gonna lose our jobs." That just proves you have no argument, and no reason.

This lady at the beginning was very nice to a group of people who obviously had no objective than to intimidate people into giving them money.

  • @ThePoliticalGuide As if losing your job isn't an argument or reason to be heard. Or to be angry. Informing Shelby's banking committee colleagues, any politician, of that alone is the very essence of a free society. Should they have chatted politely about preserving the Bush tax cuts?

  • Did the price of cars go down after the unions were busted and wages were lowered? NO. Price a toyota pickup truck.

  • UAW = MAFIA

    UAW = ORGANIZED CRIME

    UAW = FAT,LAZY,SPOILED LEACHES

    UAW = DESTROYERS OF AMERICA

UAW = DESTROYERS OF AMERICAN AUTO INDUSTRY

UAW = THE REASON JAPAN RULES THE AUTO INDUSTRY

UAW = THE REASON AMERICAN CARS SUCK

  • @nauoicelotl UAW workers now make less than Toyota workers in the South. Before that, UAW wages & benefits were less than 10% of total production costs. Learn the facts; not GOP disinformation. But I like your style. Here's my attempt at the sincerest form of flattery:

    BIG OIL = MAFIA

    BIG OIL = ORGANIZED CRIME

    BIG OIL = FAT,LAZY,SPOILED LEACHES

BIG OIL = DESTROYERS OF AMERICA

BIG OIL = DESTROYERS OF AMERICAN AUTO INDUSTRY

BIG OIL = THE REASON AMERICAN CARS SUCK

    FYI: Works w/ "Banks" too

  • Gee what other industry gets bailed out by the American taxpayer? You and mgmt both have killed the goose...guess what, no more golden eggs! You guys have a PR problem...it's called whining!

  • @SharpShootist Great advice. Be a real macho man American and keep quiet while the boss outsources your job, guts your benefits, and discounts value of your work. Your kids must idolize you.

  • The fair share you refer to belongs to the engineers who design these cars and make your job possible. What we need is more robots.

  • Overpaid? We only make $47 an hour! Damn near $100 grand a year for production line work? What a bunch of out of touch arrogant idiots these people are. The vast majority of us don't get compensated anywhere near that much! And most of us work just as hard as you UAW people. We just have enough sense not to bankrupt our companies!

  • The vast majority of us are those who do the work that creates the goods or performs the service that creates the wealth we don't see our fair share of. Just what do they think investors are investing in? Value or speculation? Don't let them cheapen the value of your time & hard work. The workers in this video are taking that stand. Don't resent them. Try to understand where they're coming from. Join them! They want to lift wages for everybody. That is what the labor movement is all about.

  • No its not. Its about UAW workers getting un-fucking-lawful pensions among other perks that are killing our car companies.

Domestic car companies can compete on the global market anymore. Each vehicle the slackers from the UAW makes is tacked with $2000 dollars to cover the costs of

  • the god damn UAW. That's a lot of money.

I wonder what GM or Ford could do with 2000 dollars more in budget per car...A lot. These auto workers better stop asking for more, and more, and more before they don't have a god damn company to work for anymore.

  • @hale -

They might be able to do a little bit with the 300 million, plus added bonuses paid to a single top executive. Sorry, but I say start at the top.

  • Plenty of companies do just fine when their CEO's are getting paid that.

Companies DON'T do fine when low skill workers are getting paid WAY more than they are worth. Maybe McDonalds should pay their workers 14, 15, 16 dollars an hour? What do you think it would do to that company?

  • @hale -

$14 an hour is less than 30k per year. So no, I wouldn't have a problem with food service workers making that. So people might eat less fast food? They'd stop super-sizing. There'd be fewer MacDonalds. And? We can create more jobs and better jobs.

  • Don't forget the pensions these THEIVES get after they retire.

  • That's an old figure & it's based on healthcare costs - not pensions. If we had true national healthcare, that difference (about $1K (which is almost always made up with incentives the foreign makers don't offer) would be eliminated. It's also important to understand that pensions, any benefits, are deferred compensation. In other words, these workers forgo increased wages in the present in favor of benefits later on. But it's still compensation for actual work. & it takes 2 to sign a contract.

  • them people look and sound lazy!!

  • STUPID BORROWING ? WTF, what a frigging idiot. The ONLY THING standing in the way of total tryanny in this country are UNION's Every frigging worker ought to kiss the ass of every UNION worker thanking him for the PAY THEY GET, for you want to see hell, WAIT TILL THESE FRIGGING BANKSTERS DESTROY THE UNIONS. THEN TELL ME HOW GOOD YOUR FRIGGING WIHITE COLLAR JOBS ARE WORTH THEN.They won't pay you shit, because they won't have to.ASK Former White collar workers Big 3 what side they should been on

  • UAW Greed destroyed detroit. Liberal entitlements will finish off the rest of the country! Go get an education and find a industry where unions can't force your job into nonexistance.

  • Rich do-nothings are the entitled in this country, Joe. Did unions cause the housing collapse? Do they negotiate trade agreements? Do they jack up your interest rates, tuition, price of gas, healthcare? No. Unions are the only real check on runaway corporate control over all aspects of American life. Corporations are nothing more than organized (unionized) risk & responsibility absconders who gamble w/ the wealth our labor creates. The working class needs to stop kissing the bossing class' ass.

  • @FlintPublic No...the dumb-fucks like Barney Frank, Franklin Raines, and other "progressives" who forced banks to make bad loans with the American taxpayer guaranteeing them! Unions are dead as you've known them. The most productive auto plants in the US are IN THE SOUTH where we have right to work laws. Quit whining...a majority of Americans have come to despise unions and their whining, thug, entitlement mentality!

  • @SharpShootist What is the reason you deny the fact that there really are such creatures as Wall Street predators? We are all entitled to a fair day's pay for a fair day's work. Yet you defend the ultimate non-workers, Wall Street gamblers who make millions of actual money for producing exotic financial garbage of no actual value. As for the Southern auto plants, they now make more than new UAW members. Those beloved bosses will be decreeing pay cuts to "compete" with no union to stop them.

  • There may have been a time for unions in the US, but the over reaching (just like the far left liberals are doing currently) has lead to drastic results. Lots of blame to go around.,..union bosses (for very aggressively seeking unsustainable compensation), corporate execs for succumbing to the union demands and for not standing up to the gov't when it tries to strong arm them into accepting unsustainable contracts,...the American people are beginning to wake up as they become enlightened.

  • Did somebody say something about "unsustainable compensation?"

  • Union thugs

  • Fuck the UAW

  • whoops, i think there was a typo, you meant to type "myself" instead of "the UAW"

  • "Predatory lending?" If you autoworkers are too dumb to know what an ADJUSTABLE RATE MORTGAGE is, why should anyone trust you to build a car that is safe? Sure you want to go there?

  • "You gotta have A plus credit to buy a car?" Isn't that the way it should always be? I wouldn't loan money to certified deadbeats, why shoud GM?

  • Taking a $14.00 an hour pay cut? How in the hell much were you union slobs making in the first place?

  • Union made cars are better than rice burners, but the UAW, which was once strong and mighty, is not weaker than an Ethiopian with AIDS.

  • That command makes me want to trade in my Acura.

    for another Acura! Bwahahaha!

  • What a waste of taxpayer dollars the auto bailout was. They went bankrupt anyway.

    "I seen all this"

What an educated voice of reason

  • Incidentally FliintPublic, I'm glad that by the time your were in 5th grade that you knew that there is no such thing as a patriotic corporation. Who put that in your head. Fuck the "global unions"...fuck all of the unions. All they do is take from their members, steal from the owners of the companies, and create a communist air in the workplace. Sorry, but I think pay for performance and creating my own destiny is the American way.

  • Congratulations on your dreams, Marceads. As we know, autoworkers, and working class people in general, have no dreams. They want nothing more than to work for min. wage, make their bosses wealthy and society possible. Naturally they have no desire to start a family, feed it, buy a home, a car, send their kids to college, take a vacation, buy a computer, see a doctor when they're sick, nor retire. What was your dream anyway? What do you do? And who IS worthy of your tax dollars? Blackwater? AIG?

  • Everyone wants that, but it turns out to be an unsustainable economic model, for that type of job.

I am a Nova Scotian and every town the unions got their way are dead and dying, because they refuse to wake up the economic realities that getting a job that you could support your family on with no education are over, this is why they all learn trades and go to Alberta to make money..

You guys have to learn what Cape Breton have, that it is time to move on..

  • "it turns out to be an unsustainable economic model for that type of job."

Based entirely on Wall Street's definitions of worth, priority and success. This entire argument assumes that the rules made up by bosses to benefit bosses is somehow unbiased and fair. That's the "program" we have to organize to change not concede to and join. Executive wages in the US are more unsustainable and out of whack with the rest of the world than those of union members.

  • What you need to understand and accept is that the virtual industrial monopoly that the USA and Canada had after WW2 ceases to exist today. Other nations rebuilt, ditched socialism and are ready to compete. I feel bad for the people in this video but even if their CEOs made 1$ there isn't enough wealth created by these companies to employ large amounts of people and give them a lifestyle comparable educated people like accountants and engineers.

    It is over...move on..

  • Also flintPublic Wall street doesn't control Canada or Nova Scotia / CapecBreton Coal mines so your argument falls flat..I am also Canadian and I know one thing...the Nova Scotians and Newfoundlanders who accepted that their fishing job or Coal mine job was never comming back or going to be consistent are the ones with a job not the ones on EI..they had to sell their homes at a loss or lose everything to start over but they are better off.

  • What happens on Wall Street impacts Flint, Canada, China. I'm referring to global private capital & the higher consideration given to it over the people who make it possible. Mines & fish stocks are natural resources that get exhausted driven in large part by the short-term (or total lack of) planning that comes with one-track, unabated profit motive.

  • Cars, farms, phone banks, computer programmers, all sorts of other products & services aren't location-specific. They "complete" on wage only. The money saved/earned/stolen benefits the few, while dragging all the rest of us down.

  • Uh no increases in efficiency are the only way real wages go up..

Lets pretend you got rid of all machines in America and closed it off to trade. Everything made by hand 99% employment. Now when you get your pay check and go to buy stuff, you can't buy much because there isn't enough wealth created and scarcity puts the price up..

You are contending that it is this the fault of owner of the company that your wages don't buy you very much.

  • UAW members have doubled their productivity over the last thirty years. Over the same period of time they have watched their wages fall to $14/hr. They cannot afford the product they make. This is not an isolated outlier result to your "efficiency" formula. It is the brutal reality of global wage competition, coming soon to a location near you!

  • UAW members have doubled their productivity or GM Ford and Chrysler have doubled their productivity? 14$ per hour...is not what it cost to employ them, the real costs are much higher..

What is the factor of productivity gain from their competitors?

Yes and unskilled and semi skilled labor is not in high demand anymore. You need to create value added products or expand to new markets. I don't see the big 3 pushing to sell cars to the Chinese or Koreans or Indians..Not the fault of the UAW..

  • Wait a second you can't just take peoples investments or savings in a bank and hand it over to money loosing projects. Good luck trying to raise capital then...

No the fishing stocks were publicly run, into the ground mind you, want a fishing license vote for me type deal.. and the coal mines were not profitable and the steel mills were ruined by the unions just hiring their buddies, and striking against equipment upgrades that would have helped them be competitive.

  • Flint Public...fact of the matter is that I had a dream and pursued it. I started by shoveling manure and picking rocks for a local farmer. I went to college and earned my degree while working. I helped the companies that I worked for be profitable while working for a salary that was alot less than any autoworker. Now I am self employed and get sick of handing our worthless government puppets and their cronies my tax money just to give to those who got them elected. That's what I know.

  • So, FLGibsonJr...what I am getting at is your socialist buddy Obama through the "Cash for Clunkers" program was trying to give you and your socialist UAW buddies a handout. With only 2 out of the 10 top selling vehicles being American made, he gave South Korea and Japan even more of my tax money...and I probably pay more in taxes than you make in a year making my donation to those countries considerable. Who is the treasonous pig here? $47/hr...what is your degree in? Bolt A in hole B?

  • Marceads, do you even know what socialism means? You may have a fancy degree, but my kindergarten teacher taught me not to use words I don't understand. And I knew by fifth grade that there is no such thing as a patriotic corporation. It's about the conditions under which the products are made not where that really matters to workers everywhere. It's called international solidarity. Look it up. Only global unions can offset the plundering done by global capital. Which side are you on?

  • I love my Nissan Titan and Honda Accord! Only 2 American made vehicles in the top ten vehicles bought in the Cash for Clunkers deal! Ask your new socialist president why this is UAW. I'm a treasonous pig? You are a joke FLGibsonJr. I have nothing else to say to you other than eat your ballot card next time...at least then you won't be able to put another socialist in the Whitehouse.

  • I once new of a GM company that was the world leader in engines, its name? Detroit Diesel. Detroit Diesel built the best engine in the world, hands down. Best engineers on planet earth, period. So much so that Mercedes bought them out! Capitalism still works, but only if the people in this country stand up and flex their Constitutional Muscles (Rights). GM still makes some of the best cars in the world, one exception: Cadillac sucks. The main problem is "planned obsolescence".

  • Hey, idiots, because of the socialist progressive federal income tax, the federal government encourages paying executives more than laborers, because with that little accounting trick, the fascist IRS can reap in more tax receipts.

  • So the UAW wouldnt concede wages. Good. Now when the car companies fail I'll make a point to drive to Michigan for Burgers. I'll see you guys working at McDonalds.

  • Even prior to 2007, union labor accounted for only 8% of a vehicle's cost. The UAW conceded wages in 2007. They cut them in half, new hires now make about $14/hr. In other words, a huge number of Americans will have half the spending power and green jobs & nonunion auto will fall in line. We can discount actual labor forever or we can realize where all the waste in all industry really is.

  • To bad GM had to pay all those Job banks people to much for to long to do absolutely nothing. Over paid and Under worked.

I'll never understand why Delphi left Flint? for Warren?

Also, as radio show host Micheal Savage likes to say: "I'll never understand why the Union never picketed the whitehouse etc. to have high tariffs put on those foreign model cars?"

  • Congratulations UAW. You milked Gm until its nothing. Exactly what you were there for. Hopefully you and your families starve to death.

  • Sad, but true.

  • shame on those who diss the uaw.they are one of the last good things in detroit.

  • a few things....

you are lazy. 47.00 an hour is still alot of money. nice shirt you fat bastard. gm is not a competitive car maker and they are the reason they have failed and the same goes for Chrysler and to a lesser extent ford. so in short you are fat and lazy and pissed that your GRAVY jobs are going bye bye. get over it and join the real world making a real wage. and stop talking you sound like a rich child who lost his allowance

  • Well said.

  • @marksalotp9afault Everyone in these comments bashing not only unions but union workers betray their complete inexperience with union workers. I am the son of a UAW worker and I worked for 8 months as a temp at a GM/UAW tool and die plant and the people I worked with there are among the hardest working people who cared the most about the quality of the product and reputation of their company I have ever met, and all they want in return is the ability to make a living wage for their families.

  • @Pezmaster then get a job that requires higher skill level and that actually willing to pay you cuz your skill worth it.Nobody is stopping you from going back to school, learn a new skill and make ton. THE FACT IS THAT YOU ARE TOO LAZY TO DO SO. AND because you are too lazy to be improve yourself, you cock blocked Jose from getting his job at the plant since he's willing to work for less. That's so fucked up.

  • U Aint Working when the UAW is done with the us auto industry.

  • UAW = U(you) Ain't workin.

Wished I thought of that one.

  • Got to love it union workers looking for a hand out...fucking crawling in on their knees...pathetic! Seriously if I was a senator I would just tell them that is what we call capitalism...if you make shit that no one wants to buy you go out of business. Now get the fuck out!!!! American car companies have been in trouble since the 80s. Why is it they feel they should receive so many retirement entitlements for screwing bolts into a car their whole life? Jesus wake the fuck up people!

  • "Got to love it union workers looking for a hand out."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Wall Street was begging for a 700 Billion dollar bailout?

    Hmmmm?

I love how Republicans bend over backwards for the rich and powerful who are at the center of America's Financial problems, but GM asks for a SMALL bailout compared to Wall Street, you morons go all ape-shit because the middle class is in trouble.

    Fucking snob.

  • UAW is getting 55% and Fiat is taking close to 30% of Chrysler while U.S. taxpayers is getting 8% of the leftover. It's time to stop bailing out failed business. There is no reason to bailout U.S.'s yesterday. I rather see new auto company like Telsa getting the bailout money to build the new U.S. auto industry than wasted on these two dinosaurs(UAW and Chrsyler).

  • I love what Telsa does, but they don't do enough of it and have no plans to build any electric or fuel-efficient models that aren't roadsters. We can't all be green Burt Reynolds. Many would still need better green options for other types of vehicles yes, including trucks. How 'bout NASA taking over Chrysler & GM?

  • I don't know the details of the specific incidents you are referring to. I do know that the UAW has a proud history of promoting racial equality since its very inception, through Reuther's support of Dr. King, all the way up through being among the first supporters of Pres. Obama. Cherry-picking members of any group and extrapolating their behavior to represent the entire group is as bad as what you are accusing.

  • Local 771 in Troy MI. is arbitrating this morons case on May 8, 2009. Gettlefinger is going along with the Local and Region 1s decision to try to get this guys job back. There is currently a Civil Rights Hearing taking place in Detroit regarding the discrimination SMART and Bolton was a part of. Google Mazyn Barash and read the details. The UAWs existence is coming to an end. SHAME ON THE UAW!

  • Cutting and pasting from unreliable sources doesn't help your cause or credibility, dot. UAW Chrysler retirees' entire health care is based on the VEBA. They are in it for the long haul because they have no other option other than what, killing off their own retired members? Not gonna happen. Besides, the entire union would have to vote on any such "dumping." Now the bankruptcy court judge's whims are another story. But please don't waste our time with bogus regurgitation.

  • UAW president Ron Gettelfinger says that the union will dump its entire stake in the company immediately.

The United States taxpayer is supposed to pump billions of dollars into the auto industry in exchange for an 8% stake in Chrysler, and we're assured that it's a prudent long-term investment and we won't get screwed. But when it's the UAW's turn, it refuses to take any long-term equity stake in the company it's insisted we pour billions into.

  • This is why you put Obama into office...change...what change? This is a man who has never had a real job his entire life! Now he is making poor decisions and acting like the tax payer should at the very least be happy that he is giving our money away. Obama will last one term. If you talk to investors they will all tell you that Obama clearly has no clue what he is doing when it comes to economics. Dow 4000 here we come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Unsecured creditors (UAW) get a whopping 55% while secured creditors (bond holders) get 29 cents on a dollar. Obama bypass the bankruptcy laws and give the most to his campaigns contributor and voters (UAW). Yes, we can!

  • UAW worker with high school education is making more money (salary plus benefits) than college educated worker.

just think about that. is it any wonder that U.S. Auto industry is in shitstorm?

  • Think about this: a college degree is not a winning lotto ticket. I'm sorry but the fact that you graduated with an English degree and can write witty taglines like "Zoom, Zoom" is not as valuable to car buyers or society as the completed car with working brakes. Can you build wind turbines and solar panels w/ degrees alone?Again, if college professors need to make more, they should join a union not wait & whine for their knowledge economy entitlement magically create gold out of the ether.

  • Think about this: being a UAW member is not a winning lotto ticket. I'm sorry but the fact that you can put nut A to bolt B and screw them together is not as valuable as Engineering. Can you build wind turbines and solar panels w/GED(high school education)?

  • Look out your window & count how many people you see driving drafting tables. We now have many educated people paid to engineer desperation, exploitation, push wages & standard of living lower & turn a blind mind to those who actually make education useful in 3 dimensions. We don't value this side of the coin at all. And yes, there are two whether they're producing engineers' dreams for scraps in China or Detroit. You might check out Jacob Lesniewski's recent entry on gapersblock.

  • I will never buy another American made car. American car are just pure shits.

  • No DOTNETNOOB, YOU are SHIT, you scabass prick! You can worship China, but not me.

  • I buy Toytoa. Top quality car with better resale value. Fuck you and your shit car. If UAW run this country, no one is allow to buy better car but shit American car. Thank God UAW isn't running this country. How about make better car that people want to buy instead begging congress and Obama to bail your ass out!

  • Foriegner

  • Yes. All the best car are made by foreign companies with better resell value. I can't even sell my piece of shit GM crap car. How about go back to the fucking drawing board and come up with something better? How about come up with something new with good resell value?

  • I think America should have new law to limit the bad Unions, like UAW. We cannot let those bad guys from UAW to drag down industry by industry. I recently heard UAW now is working with American Railway Workers, now is working with American Hotel Workers. Do they want to drag another industry to go under?

  • We have a law like that. It's called Taft-Hartley. Look it up. Autoworkers could work for free & it wouldn't help the companies sell one more car. Not one. The "bad guys" sold the EV1 battery patent to Chevron (GM), thought Toby Keith would be a swell spokesperson (Ford) and were lead into the gutter by former Bush Treas. Sec. John Snow & VP Dan Quayle (Chrysler). Scapegoating union workers as the reason the economy shriveled just means we let the real bad guys live to doom us again another day.

  • Shelby/corker are tampons

  • and your the pieve of shit on the end of your butt plug. lay off our senators & look at your own. granmole is really blowing you guys away eh.

  • Does any one that post a message here know that the CEOs in I believe it was 1977 made 35 times more than the blue collar worker. Today its 352 times more than the worker. So it would take a worker over 1400 years to make an average CEO wage. ITS A FACT!!! Unions are about making the profits fair and the jobs safe please people research stuff out dont just listen to the media

  • UAW...no concessions? I will tell you about no concessions...I will never buy another American made (UAW made) auto for as long as I live. I am not the only person that feels this way. Fucking spoiled brats...you are taking my tax money and that is all you will ever get from me. Do not blame this all on the CEO's and corporate jets...just for once you need to be accountable. Fuck you all. And yes...you are overpaid.

  • uaw workers are fat & sloppy...unprofessinal too.

  • What does professionalism look like?

  • well...come on down to our hyundai & mercedes plant & you can see for yourself. if you have to ask though...

  • The Scum sucking CEO get contracts for them selfs all the time, but if a worker wants one its the end of the world. Lets be fair

  • Great question! First, unions are responsible for nearly every safety and employment law this country has on its books. That's a big part of their importance pressing for actual enforcement is another (wish someone had pressed the SEC to enforce current law?) More than that though is the simple fact that democratic unionism is the only real check & balance to ensure there's a fair day's pay for a fair day's work and equitable distribution of the wealth we all help create. Not just the top 1%.

  • I think you should look to the Netherlands to get models on how to balance labor and capital. Collective bargaining is crucial and low unemployment, high productivity and a flexible economy is totally compatible with strong unions and equitable distribution of wealth.

  • The uaw was greedy! This group never helped others even organize for unions elsewhere!! It was all about them! And you come to our plants here in Alabama & see how clean & organized compared to how the uaw workers even dresses for work!

Women wearing short shorts on the job?? ONLY in a uaw plant. The drunks, prostitutes, drug dealing on the line...tell the truth man!

  • I would like to hear a reasonable, intelligent, and fair argument in favor of Unions; any union, electrical, grocery, auto Why do we need unions today when we have fair employment laws, safety laws, labor laws what value does a Union serve?

Please, only intelligent, honest answers / bloggers need respond

  • 3 years ago I worked in a Delphi plant and saw with my own eyes how the company removed a huge dust collector which also collected other things in the air above some grinders, while the plant was full of workers just across the aisle they didn't care who got a lung full of it, the plant was for sale, and they wanted it removed, simple as that didn't care that the thing flung dust and metal filings everywhere they just wanted it out just like everything else the safety laws are rarely enforced

  • tjw12

Scum sucking CEO leaches run to China and Mexico to get around labor and environmental laws. They take advantage of workers in other country that dont have laws to protect them at the expense of your fellow countrymen.

They should be ashamed of their selfs.

Part of a labor contract is to protect

    our jobs, safety and wages

  • Right to work states need unions, but not like the greedy, unprofessional uaw!

You get hurt in Alabama you need an attorney..no backup from a union. Working 70-80 hours in five days & when you do get hurt..which happens you are screwed, can lose everything waiting for for a court date & then the company settles right before trial. Unions are needed but uaw was so greedy!

  • LOL> you are some ignorant twat.

  • Detroit got in trouble by pumping out expensive gas guzzling suv's when gas was 4 bucks a gallon. Alabama using gov't money to lure foreign automakers doesn't hold water either. That was state money. Nobody would oppose Michigan bailing out automakers. Where was all this outcry when NAFTA sent southern textile jobs to Mexico?

  • "Detroit got in trouble by pumping out expensive gas guzzling suv's when gas was 4 bucks a gallon"

The Us isnt the only country making SUVs

But I guess you figure they can stop production on the ime wave a magic wand and turn the SUVs that were produced before gas hit $4 per gallon into hybrids

  • Union monkeys can be replaced relatively easily and not miss a beat on the assembly line

Suits in an office are there to make decisions that could affect the future of the company hence the higher wages They cant be replaced as easily

What damages a company long term? A few golden parachutes or paying 10s? 100s? of thousands of employees artificially inflated wages and outrageous lifelong medical benefits for people that havent worked for the company in decades?

  • The reason why companies are failing is because of the economic system, i.e. capitalism, has failed us. Looking for feeble excuses and trying to localise the problem to certain aspects of the system is much like saying that a serious pain in a particular part of your body has nothing to do with the overall system of your body.

Stop looking for excuses for the bankrupt economic system, the people is not union pay or executive pay (CEOs have been overpaid for decades)the problem is capitalism.

  • "The reason why companies are failing is because of the economic system, i.e. capitalism, has failed us"

NO GOVT INTERFERENCE WITH CAPITALISM HAS FAILED US

Leave the market alone and it will be fine

Soviet Union China Cuba Venezuela How many more examples of communism failing do you need?

    Just because your life suck

  • hahaha. How do you reckon Venezuela is an example of "failing communism"? Do you have ANY idea what you're talking about? Or do you just regurgitate Limbaugh like he was some kind of prophet? LMFAO. Ignorant fucking yank.

  • "How do you reckon Venezuela is an example of "failing communism"?"

Please cite an example of "successful communism"

  • Chavez is NOT a Communist you fucking halfwit. What do they teach in school over there?

  • "Chavez is NOT a Communist you fucking halfwit. What do they teach in school over there?"

    Noooooo

of course he isnt The govt only runs EVERYTHING down there

Tell me... are you really him trying to get good pub?

  • I thought it would be helpful to recap some of his "accomplishments"

More power over food prices and distribution

More power over telecommunications and electricity

    Curtailing free speech

More power over oil and natural gas industries

    More power for himself

    Trashing the Venezuelan constitution

    More power over transportation

More power over a larger military, and more military power exercised against his people

You have better chance of convincing people OJ didnt kill his wife

  • @Catholicboy4life ", the people is not union pay or executive pay (CEOs have been overpaid for decades)the problem is capitalism."

Get the hell out of my country then. Go to China. They are booming over there.

  • Adam Smith states that the Labourer is the most important part of society:

"Servers, labourers, and workmen of different kinds make up the far greater part of every great political society. But what improves the circumstances of the greater part can never be regarded as an inconveniency to the whole. No society can be flourishing and happy, of which the far greater part of the members are poor and miserable.

    con't

  • Adam Smith con't:

"It is but equity, besides, that they who feed cloath, and lodge the whole body of the people, should have such a share of the produce of their own labour as to be themselves tolerably well fed, cloathed, and lodged."

  • ...This could be changed by changing the rules of corporate governance so that the pay of the 5 highest paid executives would have to be approved by shareholders at regular intervals. Also, unlike current elections, unreturned proxies would not count.

This would allow the "owners" of the company to determine the pay of their employees. Then we could see what the market outcome would be!

  • Proof unions are just in it to collect union dues

Democrats want to eliminate the secret ballot so if your fellow employees vote to not go union you can be intimidated harassed or worse

    Union scum

  • Not quite true, under the Employee Free Choice Act, if one-third of workers want to have an NLRB election at their workplace, they can still ask the federal government to hold an election. The Employee Free Choice Act simply gives them another option—majority sign-up.

  • Secondly, you seem a little too unfair on the union leadership. I know many great people who are in high positions within the union movement who have given their time to progressive movements outside of work. From Aboriginal land reform, refugee rights, and organising action against the war on Iraq.

I also know many high standing people who give their time for the worker movement without pay, including some of the academic staff at the University of Tasmania law faculty.

  • Calling people "scum" is not the way to win over people to your little crusade, all it does is make people disagree with you more and think that you are unable to engage in rational argument without resrting to mudslinging.

  • Simple logic people

    Workers are free agents

    They negotiated a contract

The business is failing time to renegotiate or hit the bricks

See you on the unemployment line UAW scum Time to live like the pleebs who wouldgladly do your job for less

BTW why does the CEO of an auto company need to have a PHD in medical benefits for people that havent worked for them in decades?

  • Let them eat shit?

  • the young guy is so ignorant for saying "YOU have to save us" first off, who's starving? none of those people look like they have ever missed a meal. i do feel bad about the people who are going to lose the job, but they don't understand that the $25 billion isn't just gonna solve the problem if GM doesnt solve their internal problem including mismanagement, over-paid executives AND over benefiting some of the union workers, this bailout is only gonna help them last few more months.. ignorants

  • Finally, someone understands this whole mess. I am all in favour of helping those who lose their jobs, but it's RIDICULOUS to bail out entire companies that are operating inefficiently. It's business - if you suck at it, get out!

  • U are ignorant..

If your pay was cut in half, You would not be so happy either!

  • the younger guy in the middle is a loudmouth . i have no sympathy for him.

guess what, most americans are against GM bailout.

  • The young guy in the middle isnt loud mouth, He is sticking up for what he believe's in. Whats wrong with that?

  • i wonder why congressman shelby allows himself to talk with these aggressive nuts.

He's doing a big service to these ppl simply by showing up at the meeting, yet they are ungrateful.

  • Shelby wasn't there. Bill Duhnke and Mark Oesterle of the Republican staff on the Banking Committee are the ones who met with the autoworkers. They're doing their job, sitting down with their bosses; yes, autoworkers are taxpayers too. Your comment reveals your low expectations of democracy, to the point that you think such a meeting with constituents deserves special 'gratitude.' Please. These wonks should have to face the people they screw/ignore daily.

  • He never showed up to the meeting. If you were watching the video, You would see that he doesnt come to work.

  • He's right, $18/hr is NOT a living wage for a family!!! That's a joke!!!

The big bankers and the super-rich billionaires are raking in piles of cash while the little guy is getting screwed. Of course it is common for the super-rich to make more money in a DOWN economy. Bob Corker is my Rep. and so far he and Sen. Alexander haven't done anything to rid us Tennesseans of the illegal immigrants in our state. Ah heck guys, who cares? To these guys, what's a million bucks? You've been NAFTA'd!

  • Good points, jtrisgood. Our trade agreements should lift the wages and standard of living of all workers in all countries.

  • "He's right,
