This video was made all the more heartwarming since Patrick plays clawhammer style banjo. Great playing, Patrick... I hope to see you some summer down at Clifftop.
I've been told I'll never hear in my right ear. My ENT specialist just introduced me to this BAHA System, I'm looking into it and considering it this products. I'm just looking for opinions and testimonials.
@ToledoBuffVids If this is useful to you then for what it's worth my hearing was damaged over 30 years ago during my 30's for many years wore behind the ear aids. Unfortunately even after several op's my hearing slowly became worse. Around 10 years ago I was fitted with a BAHA aid and frankly it proved too be invaluable. Simple too use, reliable and for me good normal hearing. The only thing you must remember is make sure the abutment area is always clean and carry your batteries. Regards
I lost my hearing because of mumps just over a year ago now, & after an initial appointment with my local ENT I was told that damage was permanent & that nothing could be done to improve my hearing either through surgery or a hearing aid. 6 months later this week I returned to have a check up, hearing test & another consultation. The doctor then informed me of BAHA and after doing some research & coming across this I am very positive about my options. You play like the late great John Fahey.
I had the abutment put in on March 4 and should receive the BaHa device sometime in May. I can't wait!! Great video! It's answered quite a few of my questions. Thanks!
Excellent to hear you've had this done I've recieved my tester today. I have it for the next two weeks. I also went deaf over night 10 years ago through having a ear infection. Its amazing I can hear again it was so emtional.
I am glad I found your video. I am over half deaf in both ears due to mostly ear infections and surgeries. My doctor just told me that I am a perfect canidate for the baha. I had never heard of it before and he told me to look it up on here. I don't have insurance so I am working with rehab services in my state to try to help me pay for it. Thank you for your story.
This video is what convinced me to get a Baha for myself. I have SSD; I have been deaf in my right ear for more than a decade. I underwent the implementation surgery yesterday at John's Hopkins. I hope to be where you were in this video in about 10 weeks.
Thank you for revealing your story to all of those who have gone without hope for so many years. God bless.
yo man help me out.. my left ear is working but my right ear is fucked up... since late 2004.. im 16 now and still nothing.. should i get one of these implants? is the sound any good
Nice to see that you have the new BP100 BAHA. But in John Hopkins they could even programmed the new BAHA better so you enjoin it even more. Now they have programmed it by your bone conduction that they have measured with their own equipment, but what they have should have done to measure your bone conduction through the BP100 BAHA and then programmed the baha. You will find out then that the sound gets even better.
nice one for the vid upload patrick great information for people getting a baha soon like me! gald your ok and you can hear your great pieces of music :)
I'm massively happy for you Patrick, it's great to think that after all those years of you helping people through music you have been rewarded with your hearing. A truely remarkable story which has happened to a truly remarkable man, all the best!
I just came across your channel today, and your story amazes me and I am glad to know that a BAHA implant can give a great musician back their hearing.
Congratulations Patrick! I'm so excited for you and what the future holds. You are an extraordinary musician! Thank you for the daily frail and all that you do.
I can only assume you have not slept in 5 days, playing constantly, hearing for yourself what us, your fans, have been in awe of all these years. Didn't know you were that good, didja! :-)
Giving sound back to a musician is one of the greatest things people ever did for each other. It's nice to see some good in this world. Congrats Patrick!
Patrick I am so happy for you. It has been a long time a coming. You have helped so many people it is time it has come full circle. Thanks to both of you for sharing this moment, and I am sure this will help others who are experiencing the same type of hearing loss to get help.
I got tears in my eyes watching you play and imagining what it must be like to finally hear the beautiful music that you have blessed us with for so long now. You have given me the gift of music without ever meeting me Patrick and I could never thank you enough for that. Here's to you and a long life of hearing your God given talent. Now back to the daily frail!! LOL
Hi patrick i'm a young fan from England. Congratulations on the hearing my dads struggling with hearing at the moment due to sea water hehe. I know how Dear old Dad feels about hospitals i'm aheart transplantee and i go to Great Ormond Street hospital in London for check ups and they're great people. Good luck with the retreat.
Congradulations Patrick, I am so happy that you can finally hear again. I loved the part where we coudl see you really grin from ear to ear, when you first heard your guitar. Words can not express my deepest emotions, and never will. I hope everything goes well, and can't wait to see you guys at the retreat.
I'm Happy For you Patrick. I Bet that was a Great Feeling to hear Again. I have Tinnitus so i can somewhat relate to hearing problems but in a different way I hear that screeching alot LOL Thanks for posting the video. It was very interesting. amazing how far todays technology has come. And Tomorrows will go.
Congratulations Patrick!! I am so happy for you. Not only do you get the gift of hearing back, but the gift of hearing music again! I'm sure words can't describe how you're feeling, but know that a great number of people out here in YouTubeLand are ecstatic over your regained hearing. I'm sure this will be a big adjustment for Dear Old Dad too. Blessings to both of you.
I am so pleased you can hear properly. I have never posted to your site before but have been watching your videos constantly over the last year. I started playing music last year aged 52 and would have given up if it not been for your lessons. I had been told all my life I was not musical and believed it. I am probably not a great musician but I can play and I love it.
Thank You.

Man, this video made my day. I can't begin to imagine what it must feel like, but I'm just really happy for you. Now you can hear the great sounds you slam out of that guitar in their full glory. Have fun with it man.
This was a real treat to watch. All of the regular video's are great as always but seeing Patrick's reaction when he first HEARS his own playing is something special. Had a smile on my face the entire time. Cheers and goodluck getting Patrick off the banjo/guitar now that he can hear hehe.
