@iswtbapmt He was in the movie Wonderful Life. He played Othello (the one who had his girlfriend donna reed stolen by george). He opened the gym floor.
Stymie did get back into Hollywood after his long bout with drugs. He was in several episodes of Sanford and Son in the 1970's as well as the Jeffersons, Maude, Starsky and Hutch and the Buddy Holly Story before passing away in 1981.
I remember Farina, Stymie and Buckwheat all dying within about a year and thinking that it must have seemed to many people that there was some sort of macabre coincidence, or else a curse on the Black Rascals.
Farina probably led the most heroic life. Going to WWII then becoming a medical counselor for the disabled until he died... All this in the early 1900's when blacks were victims of racial discrimination. He followed a far different path of Stymie.
PET PEEVE: you said Farina "rain supreme"....no, he didn't...he REIGNED SUPREME...I cannot STAND spelling errors in an otherwise wonderful slideshow. It distracted me so much, I stopped reading and had to respond. Sorry, don't mean to be hard on you...
@wdharvey1----- I agree the spelling was a bit bothersome No. It was an abomination. I can only hope this editor was/is a foreigner. If not America is in deep doo-doo (dew-dew) **insert eye roll**
If you're going to deliver a silent presentation (relying on ONLY words then) the least one can do (due) is use spell check and a dictionary. It really was a distraction. Sorry.
Did not know about Cosby, a bit strange, i think you must see these movies in the time frame in which they were made, not judging them the way we think now about racism. Funny that in the cosby show the Cosby family rarely had white people coming over so the cosby family did not integrate very well and were also a bit racist.
A nice tribute in general... but the grammar was atrocious in some spots. Had the feeling this was done late at night when half asleep and weren't paying attention. Good intentions here... but spell check might be a good friend for you!
The music sounds like Joe Sample, formerly of the (Jazz) Crusaders. I wish i could find this music. Otherwise I would just have to keep listening to this video.

mytruth45, sorry for hijacking your talkback for a catfight; even though my sparring partner changed her mind about discontinuing it, that was actually a good idea, so I'll be enforcing it myself. Anyone who feels they want to further discuss Dimples vs. Darla with me can email me to take it to some other message board. As for the slideshow itself, nice music and very nice pictures.
What's with the spelling errors? I actually had to stop to re-read things. But it is a good clip. Just a few little things: Darla Hood did NOT beat out Shirley Temple for an audition (ST auditioned in the early 30's; DH auditioned in '35); Spanky left the Gang in '42, not '44, and was 3 when he joined the gang, not 2; Wheezer was a side-kick to Mary ANN, not Mary JO; and Alfalfa was shot in the stomach, not in the groin.
By the way, you really need to do a spell check before you post the words on these videos. You'll sound a LOT more intelligent if the words are spelled correctly.
Darla Hood beat out Shirley Temple? Uhhh...that's just crazy-talk. Shirley Temple was one of the biggest names in ALL of Hollywood for a time, let alone child actresses. Darla Hood isn't even in the same stratosphere as Temple. Hal Roach screwed up big time for not seeing the potential in her, because Darla had very little talent whatsoever, compared to Temple.
@caramiay Really? In what way? That she was one of the biggest names in Hollywood when she was a star? (a fact) Marketing-wise, she was an industry in and of herself, like Mickey Mouse. Darla Hood couldn't touch her. Overrated as far as talent? Pray tell, what do you think that Hood could do that could match Temple in any way. Name one thing.
*what do you think that Hood could do that could match Temple in any way.*
Sing. Easily.
*Overrated as far as talent?*
By you, yes, when you make the extravagant claim that 'Darla had very little talent whatsoever, compared to Temple.' It is on you to back that claim up, if you can, and explain where you see this great disparity in their abilities. Would've been one thing if you'd just said that Temple was overall more talented--but you didn't--so please, elaborate.
@caramiay She could sing, dance, AND act far better than Hood. I'm not going to continue on with this ridiculous back and forth with you, simply because you feel the need to. If you cannot (or refuse to) see and hear the obvious superiority of Temple over Hood, then that is your problem, not mine
@yohannbiimu - Suit yourself. By the way, you really need to check what you mean to say before you post; e.g., don't write "Name one thing" if you don't want to be part of a 'ridiculous back and forth.' You'll sound a LOT more intelligent if your posts are worded correctly.
@caramiay You did not name a single thing that Hood "matched" Temple in any way. And no, box office (obviously, I hope) does not equal talent.
I was born in 1954 and as a kid they would show the 3 stooges and little rascals on a morning kids show in the Boston area. I relished every second of it before I had to go off to school each morning to face another day of pure hell with the nuns in catholic school

@jeremysteele07 Come on... A car goes by and sees you walking and decides to swurve over and make sure he gets you good and then runs. Makes it a hit and run? lol Maybe I suppose but I believe it could really have been either way. Maybe he had someone of a troublesome life going on and that is what led them to believe it was murder. I don't really know but it does seem funny that anyone would presume either doesn't it. Have a good one man.
Good video and thanks for making it, but, you showed froggys gravestone twice, the second time for another person. Also, Alfalfa did work in the biz after 1944 but mostly bit parts here and there. I also think his drinking played a part in his demise. He was drunk when demanding his money, it started to turn violent and he was shot. Alfalfa put fish hooks in peoples pockets, peed on the lights for the stage sets, must've been a real Rascal!!
Do you remember the show where the gang went to the pound to get a pup? The gang was sitting on the ground and all these puppies were jumping all over them and Spanky says "I don't know which one to get." Stymie replies, "pups is pups, just pick one!"
@danielf54 I read that Pete was one of the 1st Bull Terriers(Pit Bull)in the US & only recently had been recognized as a new breed. All the Petes were inline with the original. Which ever side was white that's the one that got the circle.

So many spelling, grammatical and factual errors it was almost not enjoyable. Sometimes, I didn't even know what you were talking about. Good to hear the original music, though. I'm so used to hearing the amazing Beau Hunks, it's odd but good to hear the original music. My mom used to go to church with "Farina", she called him Allen, and thought nothing of it! I was simply amazed and star struck! Still, watch the spelling and facts. Terribly important. Otherwise, good going.
@nor888vast695 OMG WAS HE ALL WAS MY FAVS, OMG RUNNING FAST AS I COULD FROM SCHOOL TO MAKE IT HOME BY 3:30 FRONT CENTER ON THE COUCH, PEANUT BUTTER AND APPLE BUTTER SANDWICH -KOOL-AID LOL

bberchin - I'm a big fan of Our Gang-Little Rascals, but can you blame Cosby? Little Rascals was somewhat racist. The way it depicted young black children. I remember some episodes being racist or political incorrect, but it was accepted back in the 30's. Furthermore, the show was violent oriented-meaning kids in dangerous scenarios. Don't get me wrong it made the show hilarious, but still, you just can't put that stuff on TV, maybe cable, but then it will be adult-driven.
@wookiee12 Here's another angle. This was a rare place in American films of the 1930's where black and white kids were pictured as playing together. Especially in the early ones they were more or less presented as equals. Farina played an almost adult role in some of his. In the later films there were more stereotypes and racist bits thrown in. But Bill Cosby needs to re-watch some of these through the eyes of someone in the 1930's. Just another approach.
@wookiee12 I've never heard of Cosby saying anything against Our Gang--has he? There is a persistent urban legend that he bought up the rights to keep them off the air (thoroughly debunked), which is what bberchin seems to be buying into. I agree the series was sometimes racist (especially in the twenties) but if anyone ever tried to keep the series off the air for that (which no one has) I wouldn't condone it.
Some of your information is incorrect. First of all, Froggy wasn't murdered he was killed in a road accident while delivering papers and he died in 1948 not 44. Second, Spanky was a salesman and was making a decent living off of it. Other than that, the video was very good. :)
The Little Rascals will be forgotten because of Bill Cosby and his racist agenda. What a shame. I hope something is done to re-release those shorts for all to enjoy. They are true classics of Americana.
I thought childhood stars had it bad TODAY, what with the drugs, alcohol, and the negative influence of older role models who encourage the behavior thru experimentation.
These kids set the standard for tragedy in their day, and it's sad that the cutest kids in history were robbed of greater, more productive lives because of the actions of others as well as their own, (in the case of Alfalfa.)
for the most part it was a good reflection on their lives but Spanky"s is wrong. He had a good career as a salesman even working for a local company close to here for 11 yrs. And Alfalfa started the fight that ended his life when he pulled a knife on the guy that shot him. Sad to sat but Alfalfa was'nt the model person a lot of ppl would like to think he was
@rowdy6231 Alfalfa's death occured around the same time as Cecil B Demille--and the plane crash that took the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and JP "Big Bopper" Richardson.
Ritchie had just completed a musical number for a movie called GO JOHNNY GO--one of the last Hal Roach studios productions
@rowdy6231 Actually, he had a little folding pen-knife in his pocket that was NEVER opened, even the murderer's own stepson later testified that there was no reason to shoot him and the killing was senseless and unnecessary.
