  • Dont worry. The over paid state bureaucrats got their wages first then for some reason couldnt figure out how to get the cash to fix this bridge before it killed a bunch of people. Ever notice its years back and not one state bureaucrat is held responsible yet we know they had to discuss it and decided to just let it go . . . I love socialists.

  • if it rusted apart does that mean the tax payers get there money back for "mantance fees" ? or everytime you go by a toll booth they pay you?

  • one of the the best high school football players in minnesota's dad was killed while trying to save a mother and young child. sadly they all dround. <3 Rosemount MN sends prayers towards the losses

  • Should have been reinforced concrete. What's with all the steel?

  • LIKE ANY OTHER IRON IN THE USA ITS MADE BY THE CHEAPEST IRON THEY COULD GET NOT ONLY BRIDGES ALSO BUILDINGS AND CARS AND SO ON

IT IS VERY BAD IRON!!!! KNOW WHAT? THEY DONT GIVE A FUCK!!!

  • This was crazy! You should of seen our line of trucks responding to the bridge. At least a mile long

  • Were any people injured?

  • @KkF00 Yeah, alot of deaths and injuries.

  • yea this aint to far from wer i live...this was some big news back then, it was even on cnn for like 2 days, 35 people wer killed in it

  • mann we went to MN from CA one month earlier for July 4th 2007.. i remember crossing that brigde looking right over the Mississippi River.. it was a shock to hear about this.. and scary that we just cross it one month earlier before the collapse

  • @xiongly24

that's pretty cool but think of the people who crossed the bridge a minute be fore it collapsed. Man that must have been scary.

  • i was in jersey when this happend!

  • horrible

  • damn this is like raw unseen footage.

  • how the Bridge collapsed like that?

    anyone got INJURED

  • Structural failure. Yes people died.

  • alot of people got lucky and alot of didn't so tragic

  • i just finished watching a tv show called "Lost Tapes" on animal planet and it was about "MOTHMAN" a mysterious flying creature mostly spotted in Point Pleasant,WV or Ohio. Around 1957 a bridge collapsed there and 100s of people report seeing this MOTHMAN the day b4 the collapse. On 2007 dozens report seeing a black flying figure near a bridge a month b4 it collapsed........Aug 1, 2007 Minneapolis,Minnesota. ABOUT50yrs later A BRIDGE FELL WITH SAME ENCOUNTERS OF THIS CREATURE..WHAT COULDTHIS B

  • i watched that too. I dont think thats real.

  • my little cousin birthday is aug 1. if my family went here and we cross the bridge and i collops on us on his birthday OMG hell of birthday

  • This happened on my birthday (Aug. 1) and I felt so horrible. My buddy works for a Emergency Medical Response team. He said about 30 cars at least fell with the bridge. He also told me that the bridge looked like it was weakly built. Ay yay yay.

  • american things allways goes wrong:S

  • I remember this day like it was yesterday. my father and I were driving to this restaurant and there are 36 ways to get there. There is only 1 way to get there that doesn't require you to take that bridge. My Aunt called while we were at a red light. we decided to pull into a parking lot to see what she wanted. She asked us if we wanted to go to dinner with her, so we picked her up. we would have been crossing that bridge had she not called. My Aunt saved 2 lives by making a single phone call.

  • i was there that day there was fbi and cia and all that shit was crazy

  • It was thinner than federal regs said gusset plates caused the collaspe, a bridge built of the same design closed til a new is put up reason bent gusset plates and these meet the regs. I WANT ALL COMMENTS ABOUT THIS THAT CONSIDER "COOL" OR "AWESOME" TO BE INGORED PEOPLE DIED IN THIS I ALMOST LOST MY UNCLE, IF THE COLLASPE HAPPENED 2 MINUTES LATER WHILE HE WAS CROSSING HE WOULD'VE BEEN INJURED OR KILLED!

  • My condolences for almost losing your uncle in this tragedy. You must up until this day be almost very hurt. I hope the almost funeral wasn't to hard on you and your family.

  • i almost went on that brigde until we took a wrong turn and got lost, good thing we didnt have a gps.

  • Wow your lucky :)

  • do they still believe it just rusted apart, or ............sabatoge?

  • Now there saying it rusted and trying to blame the state Dept Of Trans. It went from Sabatoge to being a shitty management at the state for repairs.

  • oh, is there something unique about this bridge? can we expect it on other bridges

  • Yeah, it's rusty, it's old, and it was build by the lowest bidder.

  • unlike the new bridge. lol. built with by the highest bid, and brand new =D

  • miracles only 9 deaths

i beleive44 cars wentinto the water

  • actually 13 deaths.

  • @bnvn1 well now there is a new one... i live there XD

  • We drove down from Canada in Oct. They are still cleaning up. You actually have to see it to put the whole thing in perspective.

  • Oh and Openbrains, check this out. Check out my 8/19/2007 flooding footage. CNN used that stuff but The Weather Channel blew it off. Several towns in SE MN wiped out by flash floods but they focused on Hurricane Dean, which did not even hit the United States. It's the media, it all depends on a hand full of people and who is working what shifts that decide what get's seen by billons of people each day around the world. Now that is the real power.

  • the rescue from 44 cars, and 9 dead, the downing of the bridge: final answer--suspicious

    - Looking forward to the official reports. There was more coverage of the Minn. incident of the "i am not gay" senator than this

  • yeah well, I only shoot the news, I'm not producer :-) It's the media, it's always messed up. I talked to a lot of people that took off a few days after the bridge story to go cover the Utah mine story. If it bleeds, it leads...

  • Right . We have a very short attention span when it comes to news. Sometimes I think politicians take advantage of this problem by introducing diversarary news when a subject gets hot.

  • Gee, ya think? It happens all the time.

  • has comments been disabled or going thru some checking process. Over a week since i sent in comments.

  • Dude, I've been busy. I run a video production company up here and busy dealing with all the Hurricane Katrina stuff. Go check out my other work. I would love to hear your comments about the flooding in New Orleans...

  • Thanks bnvn1. I lean towards conspiracy thinking, and I thought comments are automatic.

Katrina? Did Bush cause Katrina also?

  • No, I just have the comments under approval on all of my new work to prevent the stupid "Check Out My Hot Body Web Cam" spam and racist stuff comments. Conspiracy thinking stuff is alright for debate and stuff. Me, I go with rust and 1960s design and money for repairs shifted to the stupid light rail projects.

  • With an inspection jsut a month prior, i find the rust explanation a stretch. But OK.

Did most of the 44 car's drivers and passengers swim to the surface? Any good film on their swim or rescue? I suspect deaths under reproted.

  • Four of the eight lanes were shut down due to road construction so there was not that many people on the bridge and everyone avoids the road construction areas around here because traffic sucks, well it sucks all the time but it sucks 100 times worse. Rust, bad metal, age, and what about the drought? All you would need is for the foundation to shift an inch and it would bring it down since it was a span system.

  • 44 cars were in the water. only 13 dead. did we have a lot of good swimmers? any film of the rescues?

  • The local TV stations has that footage from the south side where the fire and rescue were jumping in the water. I was not able to get in position until a half hour after it fell.

  • Last week, reports said that the investigation had found a possible design flaw in the steel gusset plates which bound the bridge's trusses together. Investigators were also taking a hard look at the construction that was being done on the Minneapolis Bridge when it collapsed. Last week, Secretary of Transportation cautioning them to carefully consider the extra weight placed on bridges similar to the I-35 W Bridge when they are undergoing repair or construction.

  • Also check out "I-35w bridge collapse animation west".

Looks like a domino effect. Check out the pauses between sections collapsing.

  • An interesting video is "I35w bridge collapse animation", and would love to hear a comment from an experienced civil engineer on this.

The closest I have seen to this bridge collapse is the highways in the San Francisco earthquake. I have seen no bridge collapse even remotely similar to this.

If they missed the rust damage 3 months prior, that would be a scandal on the inspection process. And the bridge only 40 years old. The Brooklyn Bridge was built like 1880.

  • But, also openbrains, as long as you want to debate this and post your side or for anyone else post their side, I will approve the comments. I just have the comments limited to do idiots that like to use hate speach or porn spam in the comments. Now there is your real terroroists, the spammers.

  • Thanks for your responses. There is a lot of interest in this bridge. 1 video with 212,000 comments had added comments blocked, and prior comments non-viewable. Unfortunately the conversation is at a nasty level.

  • Amazing statistic. With 44 cars in the river, only 13 dead and 100 injured.A school bus hanging from the bridge was removed. All 52 childdren survived. Some describe the noise and tremor like an earthquake, but no earthquake was reported.

  • thanks bnvn1- i guess you can close down the site. getting hot?

  • It was fortunate that the bridge gave way on two ends simulataeously as it fell straight down, instead of breaking in the middle, saving lives. This bridge was in the way of building lite rail, and the new bridge will be built to support lite rail. Independent lawyers have been denied inspection, and those on the scene proposing alternative methods of immediate inspections have been imprisoned, considered jsut wanting to make a buck. The

  • Yes, lawyers were bared from the area for safety reasons since the danger to divers was so great the Navy was asked to come in to recover the remains that so many sick fu.ks around here wanted to get a closer look at. And the bridge did not all fall at once. South end fell then the north end a few seconds later as shown on the security tape. Bottom line, this was a "Maintance Issue" as already defined in several reports.

  • How did only 3-5 people die with 40-50 cars underwater? Is there an attempt to minimize the tradgedy? How many bodies did the Navy find. I understand that it was very dangerous duty considering the river flow. If the National Guard were not all in Iraq, there would have been a big call up. The videos i have seen is mostly civilians walking aimlessly around. Bring the National Guard and Army Reerve home. The emergency is over. (I was in the National Guard)

  • I see now this bridge was CLEARLY wired with explosives. The speed of descent is a tell tale sign . See "Minn Bridge shows Collapse" with 217,000 comments.Site has been disabled.

As we are about to fund another 80 billion on a country in a power struggle, we are ignoring reality. The enemy has followed us here.

There was a explosion in the Twin Towers before 911. Let's get a clue.

Oh, I got it. It's the tree huggers fault.

  • Hmmm, yeah, that is why in a lot of the close up photos of the twisted wreckage there is this orange and brown stuff. Oh wait, that is RUST. The bridge was not blown up. Machines, Buildings and Bridges get old, they fall apart. Too bad Minnesota just wasted BILLIONS on a LITE RAIL line from the Mega Mall to Downtown Minneapolis but forgot about St. Paul. Stop wasting money on stupid mass transit projects and fund the bus system and BUILD MORE ROADS.

  • Our preoccupation with Iraq leaves no money, National Guard, or energy with securing our Homeland Security from a deteriorating infrastructure. Vote for a change in priorities.

  • hmmmm, NO, your totally wrong about this. The Minneapolis Bridge Collapse had NOTHING to do with any war. It DID have to do a lot with bullshit ideas such as Lite Rail and other stupid projects that take money away from the roads so some people can feel good. They want to build a new bridge across the St. Croix river but guess who wont let them, the tree huggers.

  • Oh, wrong, wrong wrong. I just said that most of the money goes to Iraq, and Bush votes ridicules money spent on the US whether its Katrina, or bridge examination. Why are people so sensitive. Lite rail is good, and tree hugging cant hurt. Brits have left Iraq because they said they are just making it worse. 80 billion more is requested

  • Hey, I know, lets spend BILLIONS on Lite Rail that can't fund itself in the first place and ignore road maintance and repair because some Tree Hugger does not want to build more roads for the growing population. Oh, I know, lets limit population like China.

  • did you tape this yourself?

  • Yes I did. I run a video production company called BNVN or Breaking News Video Network. We do a lot of stuff for The Weather Channel and CNN. I live in the area and as soon as I heard about what happened, I was there ASAP to document it.

  • The bridges did not rust apart. I would say some vibration, e.g.earthquake, cracked the cement. Any seismic reports available?Or maybe a truck with a heavy load....?

  • One very experienced civil engineer said on TV he never saw a bridge fall like that. I guess something new happens every day, and that's that.

P.S. Are there people being paid to post stupid comments?

PP S: I admit, I am prone to conspiracy. Some even say Iraq was NOT behind 911.

  • Well, one thing to consider before you make any conspiracy is this fact. In Minnesota, we like to joke that we have two weather seasons, Winter and Road Construction. In the winter for the last 40 years, salt and de-ice chemicals have been dumped on the bridge along with the rest of the roads and Salt eats metal. I would think that this is not a conspiracy but more of a learning experience for the engineers.

  • Having 2 years of civil enginering education, and living in New York ,seeing what salt does to the underbody of cars, I would guess the bridges were not inspected in over 10 years to miss the

extensive rust. These bridges broke apart, not rusted apart. Are there people hired by the government who do posting to throw people off course? If the rust theory is correct, I would advise cold states to check into ferry schedules, while the bridges get inspected.

  • You got a valid point. It will take at least a year or more before we know what the NTSB thinks happened.

  • still posting to this site?

  • has comments been disabled?

  • just stupid comments.

  • I wish people would not toss the word "stupid" around.

This site had no posting for 3 days.

  • Good job on the vid. This is just awful!

  • thanks!

  • I searched on Google Video and they just linked back to this video...is there a different way to do it?

  • Not sure, I have the full raw video on Google Video but the quality is not as good as on youtube. But the best parts are in this clip on YouTube.

  • TO bnvn1.. abc ppl are asking for any images or video optained from this event by ppl that were there(only their footage, not taken from any other news websites or other ppl)..but only like 15-45 sec. of vid... just thought i'd let u know if this is ur material(i know this cause i was contacted by one of the ppl frm there cause of my tribute video)

  • Yes, I work as a freelancer for ABC and CNN so they already bought my video.

  • I'm on that bridge every now and then. I was back up in my old hometown before it fell.

  • Thats sad
