Just got back from Belgium and knew I wanted to see Brugge. Fortunately, I learned about Gent before I went over and had a chance to see it too. It would have been a shame to go that far and missed seeing this city. Will definitely go back some day.
I was travelling from Munich to Bournmoth in the UK and accidently decided to visit Gent on my way, since a friend lives there. I was greatly impressed. Much, much more beautiful city than Brussels, just wonderful :)
Hi, it's me again, this video is so good, I watched it later. I miss Ghent and hope to visit it again -- maybe even go work there, although I don't speak Fresian. it's the closest living language to English, however. Very good food, and the art exhibit out in the psychiatric hospital is wonderful and worth taking the tram out to see!
@slobomotion Fresian? We don't speak Friesian in Flanders, the official language of Flanders is dutch, but our (better than Holland) accent is Flemish!
@Maarteuh96 I guess I was misinformed by the BBC. They said that Fresian is dying out but is still spoken in and around Ghent, and is the closest living language to English. My bad, but I am surprised as the BBC is usually a reliable source. It may have died out, though, and their information was dated. I can understand Dutch as they speak it in most places, and the Ghent dialect was difficult for me in the extreme.
@slobomotion Nobody ever spoke Fresian in Belgium, it's a mix between Dutch and German, and they only speak in the north of Holland. The Ghent accent is hard to understand if you don't speak Flemish (dutch) The accent in Holland is horrible =)
@Maarteuh96 Thanks for clearing this up. Wow, the BBC was wrong! Yeah, the accents in Ghent were really hard for me. I just fell back to French and even that didn't work, I had to use English. Fabulous city. I would live there in a friggin heartbeat. The psychiatric hospital has the best crazy art I have ever seen on permanent display, & you can ride the tramway right there. Their tram moans like a humpback whale. No one serves coffee better or has better little dogs than those in Ghent!
i have been there like 5 days but my impression was is precious city, good atmosphere, people doing his things, most of the precious woman that i seen in europe, fantastic graffity writers...I´LL COME BACK¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
Fantastic!!!! Huwaaa, I want to come back again there. You forgot one of the best university there in Gent.I will send my son there!Sorry I did not do Dutch,ik ben sleecht voor dat!
Thnkx for the video! I like it very much :), also the song. I was born in Gent but now I live a little bit outside the city. The most beautiful city in Belgium!
