  • MYST freaked me the fuck out when I was a child

  • @xxxwarlordxxx Me fuckin too man

  • @xxxwarlordxxx Haha, me too, I wish shitting myself especially with the ambient sounds.

  • Minecart*

  • I may just buy this to relive my frustration with the minecraft puzzle >_<

  • i never realy did understand what this game was about

  • @doom6928

Its a mystery kind of game with puzzles.

You first start out on that island without knowing where you are or what to do. Then you need to explore the island and try to understand the reason why you are there, and what the island is etc.

While exploring you progress through the game and things become more and more clear etc.

Its a really good game, but it can be hard and frustrating. Its fun when you progress tho.

  • who else had weird- ass dreams after playing this?

  • I loved Myst so much as a kid. Could never get into this though. There was always something so creepy about the first one. Even though it was just point and cilck still images, I always felt like someone was creeping up behind me. What a great series.

  • Helvete vad views du fått här!

  • reminds me of MILO.

  • I actually like the "point 'n click" type of gameplay from the original better, it sorta gives the game its mysterious puzzle-like atmosphere, also because it really makes you feel that your possibilities are limited. An adventure-puzzle game like Myst shouldn't have realtime 3D (of course the movement of the water is a nice new detail) but you shouldn't be able to roam freely about like this.

  • When I played this as a child the atmosphere of the game gave me chills, yet i was so drawn into it!

  • i remember this game being SO hyped and when i played it i wasn't very impressed. maybe if the original game were more like this i'd have thought otherwise.

  • They should make realerMyst

  • I wish all myst games were done Exile-style, 360 degree view, but still point and click.

  • n4g first

    then

The Evolution of Graphics in Video Games Over The Last 25 Years [1987-2011]

    then

i came here to search about this game

  • Is this remake actually real and can be bought from shops?

  • what do you do in this game

  • If they did a RealMyst version for Exile you might probably be able to engage Saavedro in close combat. xD

  • i love these types of games, very relaxing and immersing

  • It really isn't prettier than the original. The water is moving but doesn't look very convincing. The beautiful colours have faded here.

The starting spot at the pier looks dire and cold by comparison.

  • It's so sad ... I played the MYST: Masterpiece edition ... stunningly beautiful (and still pales in comparison to the staggering wonders of Riven) ... RealMYST looks sadly LQ in comparison :-( But then we still have a ways to go before such incredible detail and color/light/drama scope can be rendered photorealistically in realtime 3D. Not a long way, I hope, but still a way....

  • @quietpanther I don't want to be rude, but I will. You are wildly wrong. We can do positively GORGEOUS things at interactive rates with modern graphics hardware. Rendering the original Myst's scenes would be child's play for even cheap, older graphics setups. If realMyst looks LQ, chalk it up to poor stylistic choices.

  • @palafx I spoke too quickly and now eat my words. I was remembering Masterpiece to be much nicer than I saw it to be on a recent revisit.

  • @quietpanther good man :)

  • Is this the re-made version ?>

  • damn for an early 90's pc game this has some amazing graphics

  • damn for an early 90's pc game this has some amazing graphics

  • @WakeUpAndLegalizeIt this game is from 2000!

  • i chose blue pages

  • Unholymasterofmetal, shame on you for wanting cheats! It's no fun otherwise!

  • This is one of the reasons I got back into computers. After using PCDos, Fortran, Basic, in 75 ;pc'stypewriter/calculator with yellow/white letters on the greenish black background. This is just beaut. and there is no time limit. Some of the puzzles are quite hard to figure. You got to have sound.

Small imaging because computer screens were 12" or 13". This is a IndianaJones/Agatha Cristie type of game. The rendering is fantastic. The great amount of planning and work involved.

  • were these the graphics back in 1993? wow its great!

  • @olegario39 like it says in the description its a remake in better graphics..

  • Any cheats out for this game?

  • whoa wait a sec. the myst i remember was like point and click to move not like FPS movement

  • @xdudeyourcool I am with you, I am shocked.

  • Urgh, why do you have it at 1440x990? Everything's squashed because it's not a widescreen game but you have it at a 16:11 aspect ratio...

  • The guys in the books scared the crap out of me as a kid. I dreaded putting the pages in because I knew I'd have to watch them.

  • If I could get sucked into any game series, it would be this one. Imagine playing this game in real life!!

  • For those of you asking where you can get it, Good Old Games, has it, the original Myst, Riven and Uru Complete Chronicles

  • how to play the game??

  • Where can i get this game?

  • If you have an iPod touch or an iPhone, there is a conversion of the original Myst that plays very well.

    SKB

  • I want this so bad! My original myst game won't work anymore on my new computer D:

  • Seems to me they cut half of the trees! The island seems smaller too.

  • Does anyone know where I could find the sound of the link-in?

  • real time 3d of one of my favorite games when i was a kid? where can i get this!?!!

  • "So I'm just sitting here, at the bottom of space, when suddenly, some jackass drops a textbook on my face!

    Some people."

  • @resseses he was playing it on a computer

  • So much nostalgia in one video. That was amazing.

    Torrenting this game now.

    Thank you. c:

  • @SanAndreasRobbePlay you can it for 6 bucks on steam you know...

  • @SanAndreasRobbePlay

Dude, you can get it at GOG.com...

  • Those are some insane water effects for 2000.

  • @loperspest Yeah, I don't think we'll be seeing any shooting in myst too soon. ;)

  • I remember spending hours just looking out at the sea and reading the books in the library wondering what this island was and whether there was an escape or not, and then the elation of getting in that ship only to find myself on a new deserted island.

  • I've often wondered what Myst would be like if it played like Half-Life 2.

  • 0:32 - 0:40 really sounds like background music off spyro 2: gateway to glimmer. Hmm.. :)

  • Yes, it's Myst with good graphics! The only reasons I don't like this are the lag and the way it plays like an FPS.

  • @StoneRainStudios You mean like in first person?

  • @StoneRainStudios Except for, well, the S part. Myst was first person from the very beginning, as were it's precursor games The Manhole and Cosmic Osmo.

  • is that the voice of raziel from soul river @ the start?

  • oh, a click game

  • hmm, they're making this into a movie

  • REAL RIVEN. THAT'S WHAT WE NEED!

  • this game is $5, whos complaining?

  • I read the book and was so heavily disappointed -.-

  • the water looks SOOOOO much better :)

  • I wonder who mf is.

  • Is there going to be a realHELLCAB?

  • Comment removed

  • I ended up buying this game again on Steam just so I wouldn't have any problems with the new version. Anyways, it's a pretty good game, though it does require a lot of memory and thinking which is what Myst is well known for. I sure hope they make more of these sort of games soon! I suppose nobody remembers that Roman adventure game S.P.Q.R?

  • Have you seen the Anna Grave?

  • this looks as dated now as myst did then :)

  • Which is the best version of the original MYST? I mean the one that has the best and most MYSTerious atmosphere. I really want to start this game!

  • @CubeableGame I played the original myst. I prefer the point and click style as opposed to the free roam style of real myst, but the graphics in realmyst are far superior.

    Those are the only differences.

You should check out Riven once your done with Myst. Its unstable on modern Operating systems, but its the best in the series.

  • @flamablesteve Thanks! I am planing to play the entire MYST saga. Very unique games!

  • Wow, graphics on realMyst suck big time. That was what made the original Myst feel so real, like you were there. Looks like I will be sticking with the original. The actual game and storyline is great though, probably one of my favorite games.

  • @Xzontar Um. What?

These graphics are superior to the original myst.

  • oh my god. WHERE has the passion of making great adventure games gone!?!?!?!?!? this story and everything about this game was just interesting. The music sound effects and the first person perspective was important. By MYST 3 the game got pretty damn complex. MAybe a but too complex.

  • How many hours of gameplay does this have?

  • My favorite part of the game was the observatory. I liked playing around with the dates on the machine. I even looked up my birthday in 1985 and found a pattern of stars. I didn't know what it was supposed to resemble.

  • That warp sound brings back memories.

  • its called... mouse sensitivity.... turn, it up.. heh

  • Classic

  • Check out my rendition of the Myst theme!

  • just isn't the same....

  • @KoivuTheHab Well, I didn't mean connection lag, smartass.

  • @MrAske There is not other kind of lag than connection lag... Lag is always due to latency.

  • @KoivuTheHab Your mom gave birth to an imbecile...

  • @noahdecoco Hermaphrodites should refrain from stating their opinions in public...

  • @KoivuTheHab

Lag: a condition of slowness or retardation.

  • @MrAske ouch you just pwned him ^^

  • @MrAske lol p'zoned!

  • @MrAske lol, i get it :D the lagg of the sea ^_^

  • @MrAske

    He isn't a smartass, just a dumbass.

  • @KoivuTheHab Dude lag means latency. You can have latency in conversations, responses, processing video cards and graphics.. idiot

  • @KoivuTheHab Lag, definition: a delay between the time an input is made and it's resulting image appearing on screen.

  • @KoivuTheHab there is a deference between MS lag and FPS dipshit

  • @Guitar5hit You are over a year late, fuck off.

  • @KoivuTheHab lol you mad

  • @Guitar5hit lol kid, btw learn how to spell =:)

  • @KoivuTheHab I actually didn't spell anything wrong in ether of those statements. Though my grammar is a bit off, that's just because I don't give a shit when its a youtube comments because most people are idiots like you that have to hit someone at their "spelling" when they realize they have nothing against the person.

  • @Guitar5hit So tell me, what is this 'deference' that you speak of? Is it something you have up your arse?

  • @KoivuTheHab difference opps, but google instead of making idiotic comments

  • @Guitar5hit No wrong spelling ehh? Good job at correcting yourself child. Maybe once you grow up you will smarten up.

  • @KoivuTheHab You're pathetic the only way to seem not idiotic is it go at the fact I miss spelled one word? Well you're a dumb ass for not knowing the difference between MS and FPS, now that I think of it. You're so dumb maybe once you group you will smarten up and not look like a jackass and a dumb ass in one sitting. None of my comments are hidden because of to many negative votes for being retarded. What about yours because I'm curious?

  • Whoa......Listening to the opening theme brought back real chills.

  • Brings back memories of spending days on end trying to figure out a puzzle in the original MYST. What an awesome game.

  • Check out my rendition of the Myst theme! I'd love to compose for a game like Myst asap!

  • The Penumbra games got a lot of their inspiration from Myst i think, IDK this really reminds me of Penumbra, but this came before it so I'm guessing they got ideas for Penumbras game play from this.

  • I'm the Myst goddess! Check out my rendition of the Myst theme on keyboard!

  • beautiful game

  • cool vid. thanks

  • would i like this game?...can a regular pc of today standards run it? and are there hints for the puzzles? or do i have to be an asshole and take a wild guess?:D i tried playing myst when i was 9 i got bored after i drooled on the cover :3

  • @mickeymouse14 All you need to solve the puzzles is a notebook, some acuity, logic, and in some cases, patience. You SHOULD enjoy it.

  • love the classic sound when he travels thru the book :D

  • please tell my this runs on vista

  • still the best pc game.

  • Posted on my Birthday wow

  • @Vipertoffee happy 3rd birthday!!

  • absolutely a beautiful work of art!

  • they need a real riven

  • @FlyingAce1015 YES, Riven was the SHIT. Not to discredit the first Myst, but Riven was the masterpiece of the whole saga.

  • @FlyingAce1015 YUS!!!!!!!

  • @FlyingAce1015 Any realRiven they'd make in the future couldn't possibly compare to the original.

The sheer, staggering, ming-blowing detail they put into Riven can't possibly be recreated in a 3D game.

  • @Harbingerofd00m

With today's graphics technology it could.

Most PC games that come out now have far more graphical detail and realism than Riven could allow. Take a look at this game... It's built on the source engine:

    dear-esther. com

  • 360 play kinda ruins it

  • where do i get this, I have the original cd, however i have wonderfull loving vista, so i guess i wouldn't mind playing it with real time 3d graphics, unless someone can show me how to run on vista be my guess, but don't say run compatibility to whatever because i will slap you

  • installed this game yesterday - completed three of the ages ( channelwood took me about 3 hrs to complete because i totally missed the lever to open the door untill i went back to read the library book.) but it keeps crashing when i enter the selentic age from spaceship :( after struggling through the first three i cannot believe i won't be able to finish this game !

  • well, 2 things.

    Mostly, they ruined it

but the thing better now that u can walk free cuz i hate the way how to move around...

  • Wow, while watching this, an irrational hatred for this game welled up.

Weird. :\ I guess it was depressing to play as a kid, because all the worlds were so dead. Aside from Atrus, you were the only one who was really there.

  • That would be the worst thing ever. But I'm guessing you're young, so I'll forgive you.

  • I was referring to creatures made of water that would burst if shot too much. But yeah.

  • Weaponry sort of defeats the point of the Myst series. :P

  • ahhhhhh...

  • ehhh wth then u miss the real point of Myst...

  • I played the orginal and the first 2 sequels, Riven and Exile, years ago and still probably amongst the most atmospheric games I've played so far (more than 30 years of gaming experience here!). I didn't realise until very recently that there was a 24-bit colour version of Myst - nice to see it and makes me want to find a copy and play it all over again.

  • he needs a new MOUSE!

  • I prefer the original point-and-click version. All the myst game were good except myst 5 because it was like this remake. Pre-rendering graphic were alot more immersive imo.

  • Agreed,

I recently got my hands on that collecttion of all the myst games - i'd previously played the first 3 only, and played myst 4 pretty much non-stop, then installed Myst 5, and than uninstalled it like 10 minutes later.

It was painful - why did they ruin it?

  • I know I did the same thing

I guess some people don't realize that its not all about 3d graphic. I want to be in the universe...not be reminded at every corner that its a cartoonish game.

  • Haven't played Myst since I was like 6. Guess I'll go find a DL and try this since I think I would understand it alot better now.

  • I wish to know the system on which this was played thank you

  • man i want this game! i used to play the original!

    where ?? how ??

  • If CyanWorld had the choice then I think all the games would be Real-time....

  • I don't think necessarily the original Myst had a better atmosphere, or "How it was meant to look" I think it was just made that way due to it being the only way possible at the time, remember the same people made this as the original. I think if cyan had the choice they would make the original real-time too. But thats just my opinion, and everyone else are entitled to their's.

  • i downloaded it free from piratebay, fuck paying 55 dollars for anygame

  • Splendid constitution. I can understand pirating a shitty game, like the new Need for Speed games, but in this it would have been better to support the developer.

  • Amen.

  • he rerecorded the intro

  • Where is the cheapest place to buy this game? I checked ebay and the cheapest was $58.00 ouch...

  • so what is truly better? myst or realmyst

  • The Myst series is amazing!

  • why does this game sound so familiar =[

I think my moms boy friend years ago had Riven because when I saw it at a friends house I had some sort of memory of it right away

  • wow shit, thats intense.

  • I appreciate that 3d makes the game more accessible, but in general it misses the point. Pre-rendering gave Myst half its atmosphere and character.

  • If you played the original it was so hard it took hours upon hours to find out what to do, this is only a remake when you can move faster, but in the original you moved little by little and if you messed up a little bit, just a little you had to start alllll over again. hated this game.

  • I would really love to get RealMYST one day, I LOVE the original.

  • this game is ridiculously hard. But sweet on shrooms. As you could imagine.

  • AWESOME!

  • I heart realMyst. What a beautiful remake! The details and realism to it is simply stunning. And as a big fan of the novels, I was pleasantly surprised at the Easter Egg they added into this version. The changing day/night, and raining effects were simply gorgeous. realMyst = LOVE.

  • I got fed up with this as I had the PS1 version which took ages to load.

I wouldn't mind seeing a next gen real time version on the PS3 or 360 though...

  • Real Myst, Love it!

  • I NEED to have this on PlayStation 3, but thanks to nature of average PS3/360 gamers' desire for FPS & Action titles, it will NEVER happen!

  • LOL the guy in the book he looks at you and says who are you? and you go SHIT! and slam the book shut lol

  • The first time I played the game (15 years ago or however long it was), that book scared the crap out of me.

The whole beginning of the game was scary for me. Had such an eerie, mysterious feel.

  • oh ya when you open the book i makes a weird noise i had my speakers on full blast andit hurt my poor ears

  • Adventure games like Myst here died due to confusing game play and lack of a defined goal. Take Zelda for example. Kill Gannondorf by going through the temples to save princess Zelda. Myst requires hours of pressing buttons that you hope to find out what it does, only to forget that you forgot an important pin number from earlier in the game that you had no idea it was even relevant to what you had to do. And then when you go back to find it you forgot about half way there where you were headed.

  • fuck i love myst

why did adventure games have to die?!

  • Because nowadays gamers have become dumber and theyd play any crap as long as its an action game with minimal thinking involved.

  • Is this for pc? : o

  • yeah

  • no this is real life if you go to a library and pick up a book called myst it will take you there XD seriously

  • It's funny you should say that as there are actually books based on Myst! lol
