UPDATE: OMG! What weird timing. They just announced a winner on the semaphore web site. It has been up there for months, and I made my video just a few days ago. But since I posted, they redid the entire web site, and they are announcing that it was cracked in October. There's cool new video and graphics there now, and they are leaving it running for runner-ups to try to break it. Check it out.
This is so cool! My hubby used to do the lane splitting and I freaked every time! Sometimes I think it's better we don't know what you guys are doing on your bikes out there! LOL ;)
Thanks for the ride, Don! I really miss San Jose now. I'm thinking about moving back soon. There's nothing happening over here in Alabama. Awsomely educational video narraration. Please continue to keep me informed.
I just wrote you a long letter that never made it to you. I should have copied it before trying. Talk to you later.
Hi FWz! Sorry for deleting your earlier comment! (fumble fingers :) Alabama?? Come on back to San Jose! I will keep an eye out for your letter. I have lost several myself.
For the record, Don, that lane splitting really made me catch my breath!!! OMGosh! I think those folks are doing TaiChi or something. HP Pavillion, lol! I think the semophore is actually alien technology for communication with mere humanity ;-) FYI it was 60 here today, which is unseasonably warm!
Hi VI, lane splitting has actually proven pretty safe, but my bike is pretty wide with the saddle bags. Sport bikes do it with ease. And I guess I don't have much standing to complain about weather, do I? :) Hope you are warm!
Thanks Kassidy, I just built a chest-strap bracket for my Canon Powershot A630 camera. It's got a 1GB card, which gives about 25 minutes of video at 320 resolution.
That's pretty good. I've been looking for a way to film on the move, and unfortunately my DV camera hasn't got the right lens on it, and is too bulky for some of the things I'm trying to do. And neither of my Nikon's does audio on video. I used to use my laptop in the car using the webcam, but the battery on it has just died recently. :(
They have tiny "pencil" type cams these days, where the lens is at one end of a cable and the rest of the electronics are at the other end. Or perhaps inside a computer. Check for "helmet cams", and I bet you will see them. They might be expensive though. I hope you find something.

Yeah, you wouldn't want to know. :) I'm sure there are guys on skinny sport bikes who would have split the bus and truck! ;)

Very interesting about the semaphore. Not that I'm any good at cracking codes... Also, what are you using to film while on the move?
