Just played through it for the first time, but I cheated using the Konami code. It isn't as hard as the original two R-Type games, but still is pretty damn hard without the code.

i just beat this game like twenty minutes ago. bought it today used for like four bucks, used to play it to death as a kid. anyway, it's one of the best nes games ever, but the ending is so anti-climatic and lame. haha.

This game's hardnesss is nothing compared to the ghosts and goblins-series :) But this game is far more entertaining.

Oooohh, i remember that game. Me an d a friend worked so hard to beat that game. We came to one level where you fly and shoot like larger arrows but the level just repeated itself and we never got any further...
