OMG I am gonna go crazy bird - 2 weeks every day and night so far - I have bags under my eyes that are dragging on the ground lol - you are killing me
@aondotri Only during mating season? I think when the Koel migrated to my country in 80s they mutated or something. The females call out year-round with the males at odd hours. Even the male's distinctive call seems louder. It goes like koo-oo 3 reps for each set with each rep louder than the first, slowly driving the neighbourhood insane.
@mfernz911 Just goes to prove how far removed the modern man/woman is from Nature. Where listening to rock music is a pleasure and the call of this wonderful singing bird a nuisance. It's delightful to hear this bird sing in the quiet of the night!
I read past comments and it appears a degree of citizens are aggravated by them. I, for one don't mind them at all.
The black koels are males, white koels are females. They are cuckoos and often they don't build nests but lay eggs in nests of other birds. Expect to see foster parents.
People, write to your MP's. This parasitic devil bird MUST be eradicated, or at least driven out of cities. For those being tortured by this loathsome vermin and who do not have a shotgun handy, or who lack accurate aim, I have found that they tend to keep their distance from 110-120dB ultrasonic mosquito repellers. They may still be audible, but at least they can be persuaded to move away from the immediate vicinity of your bedroom window.
@wilbyhere - goodness do you have this mongrel bird back again this spring? I'm in Brisbane, and I'm almost too scared to say it out loud but it hasn't appeared near my house as yet (touch wood) - but a poor friend has one at his house - talk about make life a misery to anyone in its immediate vicinity!!!! :-(
@tracie6464 Yeah of and on for the past two bloody weeks including today. I am in Caloundra, where we usually have the noisy parrakeets but these as so much more stressful on the nerves. LOL
funny ..isnt it..I wanted to here to this sound cos..i just couldnt get that rainy morning feel in UK..as i would in India..a hot cup of tea...rain..and this sound..fantastic
Trust me there is nothing fantastic about that sound it woke me at dawn this morning and is still going. I live in Queensland Australia so it is not just those who live in India that have this alarm clock I wish I could turn it off!!!
@sivagami1234 Nature is fine but that bird is enough to drive the most sane person nuts. Have you actually ever spent all day with that bird at top volume non stop in your ear. Unless you have lived it you won't get it.
THE most annoying bird on the planet. Given the chance, I would have no hesitation in shooting this bird's stupid head off. The noise in this video doesn't even really do justice to how annoying this prick sounds at 5.30am.
I BLOODY HATE THIS BIRD!!! It wakes me up every morning and in the middle of the night with its stupid, annoying, loud & resonating noise. It hasn't shut up all day today and is doing my head in. If I could catch it, I would gladly wring its neck with my bare hands - ah, that felt good venting!!!

Also, apparently the "twee twee twee twee twee" background that often accompanies the koo-oo is from the female koel.
