  • playin like this since 1986, one of the most influential death metal drummers of all time

  • badass

  • i wouldve said my back hurts too to not participate in that garbage they put out

  • @MrRppd2shrds Hahahahahah! Yeah, I have to agree I'm damn glad that Sandoval wasn't dragged down by Illud Divinum Insanus...

  • in boots!!!this is fuckin fat!!!!!!

  • trigger everything. hit soft. lead an innovation through metals history, and leave it at that. its weak to trigger everything. this guys in the same boat as hellhammer, just a speedy guy with no power.

  • @DontLikeBandsIHate looks like he is hitting hard. triggers are helpful in a large and loud room so someone can hear the bass drum better.

  • This Video is not speed up..It is all Live and in real time !

  • Sandoval rules...period.

  • man....if you just watch pete play, the entire video looks like its in fast forward.

  • and i am talking american metal bands. there are other bands from around the world that feature drummers of extreme talents.. but to me, this guy is the shit as far as american death metal bands. yeah, lots of contenders, and i know he is ailing at the time, but who has been doing it this long AND this badass besides pete sandoval?

  • j. jordison plays with satyricon when they come to the US because frost cant enter the country, or so i have been told. if that is the case, then ppl should give jordison much more credit than they do because frost is a god among mortal drummers. anyway, this post is about pete sandoval. he is the fucking icon--the legend of legends of american metal drummers. bow down.

  • Opening of the Gates was originally supposed to be triplets @ 280, instead Trey quantized it (edited it) and added in hits to make it straight 16ths @ 280. I'm sure Pete could play the song with adequate practice, as could any death metal; drummer going at these speeds. But to argue that it's impossible is ridiculous...Kollias hit 282bpm on "Kafir" I believe it was, or some other song off of "Those Whom the Gods Detest."

  • @vashts80 Ahh, so that WAS edited and altered in the studio, that inhuman blur of kick drums on that song? Sad to hear it.

  • one word: death metal legend.

  • Must have been when Hank was singin with superjoint ritual. saw Morbid and super at the cannopy club in ill. Was a great show. Trey Azagthoth morbids guitarist always comes out and chills. Great guys great show. Love yuh Hank3

  • the salvadoran drum master, this guy is a machine

they have the best soccer player(magico gonzales)

and also the best metal drummer ever

    those people must be proud

  • @22bryant Who is "magico Gonzales", man?, i lve in Argentina, the people use to play soccer all the time and... Salvador is between the worst soccer's team in south america, or whatever... but Sandoval... you know the funny thing about this (and remember Tony Laureano, he is a great drummer too from Puerto Rico) they do not get all the credit that they deserve. Most of this bands write against the christianity and the people is very religious back down to mexico... that's sad.

  • I did 300 yesterday guys..! I'm pete brother.

  • Seems a lot of people are commenting on this video arguing with each other, when both of them don't know what they are talking about....

  • these mutha fuckers kill live. if you havent heard pete sandoval live you are missing out big time.

  • Am I really hearing all this crap about the camera being sped up? It's Pete Sandoval, this is how he has been making a living for 25+ years. This is how the song is supposed to sound. You want your head to explode listen to "opening the gates" off their "gateways to annihilation" album. What is so hard to believe, have you not heard drummers like Gene Hoglan, Flo Mounier, George Kollias, Derek Roddy, Tim Yueng, Tyrm, Mike Smith (Suffocation)

  • Wow its great to read such well constructed argument between credible experts. If you're somehow oblivious to sarcasm..... Shut The Fuck Up!

  • what song is this one :O?

  • he sits really low......hard to play fast and tight with a low seat!

  • Rapture \m/

  • ok, ive heard many things about pete, hes a freak on one end, then someone else says he sucks somewhere else. which is it? i personally like him alot

  • Gene Hoglan is a fucking great drummer...but listen to Pete Sandoval. His technique and speed is fucking rediculous!!! Morbid Angel is such a different band anyway, you cant even compare the bands that Hoglan has played in to this. Morbid Angel is so fucking different.

  • douches

  • not the fastest or the best technique, but still the greatest

  • Assjack and Morbid Angel should team up for a tour.

  • where does the drumstick end?

  • Just think, one day this man will be gone forever and the type of legacy he will leave behind is beyond compare. From his legendary performances for Terrorizer up to Heretic he never lets us down, always giving us a top notch passionate performance. He was the genesis for this type of extreme drumming and all those that follow the path of extreme metal owes something to this man. Get well Pete!

  • what Pete needs to learn next is to pick up a damn cheeseburger!!!!! bastard is to skinny but so fucking good!!!!!

  • He wears the big boots to slow him down so his double bass doesnt make everyones head in the room explode

  • ohh goood, why pete istn a women whyyyyyyy

    legend.

  • And he wears combat boots while playing like this!!!!! What a master!!!!!

  • You don't see this nowadays. This video looks like sped up but in fact, it isn't... Whatever video you see of this guy it always looks like sped up but this guy just moves this fast, or the speed is just too much for the camera to handle. Even the fastest guys today don't manage to look like as sped up as Sandoval.

  • pete is a legend but ill tell u who is better,Gene Hoglan,a true genius of Death Metal drumming.

  • @hinny244 Gene Hoglan is very good. He has more technique, but he cannot come close to the speed of Pete.

  • @rsman169 Nope, not true. I'm not taking a single thing from Pete, but Hoglan can easily play this fast and actually faster. Just one example being what he did with Old Man's Child.

  • @TheWitchOvAgnesi Listen to "Opening of the Gates" by Morbid Angel, the speeds accomplished in that song can not be done by many people at all. Don't get me wrong, I love Gene for everything he's done, Strapping, Dark Angel, Death, OMC, Mechanism, Dethklok and many more.

  • @rsman169 Listen, Pete's got fast feet, but he still isn't the fastest out there and Gene can hit these speeds. I don't want to come across as a dick and don't mean to insult, but do you play drums? I ask only because in extreme metal it's sometimes hard for people who don't play the instrument to hear what's going on with each of the instruments.

Vyl of Keep of Kalessin hits speeds much faster on the Armada album, and there are quite a few more guys. Pete was the first... but not the last.

  • @rsman169 I mean, I guess what I'm saying is keep exploring the music that's out there and you'll hear faster drumming. Polish death/black metal bands like Behemoth, Vesania, Scandinavian bands like Setherial and Dark Funeral, French bands (old Seth, Anorexia Nervosa, Antaeus.... a whole host of them.

  • @rsman169 Opening of the dates is fake... The band members quantized it without his permission,. He almost left the band over it.

  • @abacacus I HIGHLY doubt that's fake. Because I have heard faster. And Sandoval is, or was excellent.

  • @rsman169 No. It is fake. I guarantee you. 100%.

Also, drum tone? What drum tone? Pete triggers! This means you can plug in any beats wherever you want in studio. Even if it was just mics, they could have sampled it.

I'm sorry, but it IS fake.

  • @abacacus I want proof. Where did you hear this from, or are you jealous and just assumed it? Dude it's only like 280bpm. It's very possible in extreme metal drumming.

  • @rsman169 Who did I hear it from? Derek Roddy. Ever heard of him? Also, *only* 280 BPM? Do you know the first damn thing about drumming? 280 is INSANE. very, very few people can play a clean 280.

  • @rsman169 In extreme metal, 270-280 is the entering point tbh. Anything under that is fast, but people are quick to judge anything under that. And dude, Pete is so solid live it's not even funny. Telling me he couldn't do 270-280bpm for 10 seconds is retarded.

  • @rsman169 No. Just no. You do not know the first fucking THING about what you are talking about. The very fastest in the world are barely pushing 280 There is no way in hell Pete can pull 280 off. Ever notice how they have NEVER played that song live? Ever? It's because he knows he can't do it.So shut the fuck up, and take your idiocy elsewhere. Real extreme metal is Nile, Hate Eternal, most MA, music where drummers can actually PLAY the stuff on the cd, not your 270 280 fake drum machine shit.

  • @abacacus Did I make you rage? Dude, what metal have you been listenting too? Surely not the Nile I know. GK reaches speeds from 270-280bpm, he said so himself. You are a fucking idiot if you think 270-280bpm is drum machine shit. Give me a break.

  • Comment removed

  • @rsman169 Say what? 270 is 4.5 strokes a minute? are you high? 270=1080 strokes a minute. 280 is 1120. 1120 is actually higher then the WFD's official record. The only people I've ever seen bust 280 out good and clean are George Kollias and Dave Kinkade. But, if it's oh so easy, you can do it, right? Video's, perhaps?

  • @abacacus Nope, I've been playing for 4 years and couldn't even reach 240 clean and hold it for 10 seconds.

  • @rsman169 If you can't do it yourself, then maybe some live videos of these "extreme" drummers who can?

  • @abacacus LOL! ive personaly seen them live and they did play this song. and they had pete set up on the left front of the stage. i was close enough to see his feet. he can so pull it off.

  • @chaosad09 He can play this song fer sure, I was talking about Opening Of The Gates :p

  • @abacacus oh my bad. i was dipping in the koolaid and i didnt even know the flavor. LOL : )

  • @chaosad09 No worries, we've all been there xD

  • @abacacus Plus dude, it sounds just like his drum tone.

  • @rsman169 "opening the gates" is immensely insane! I know the kicks are triggered for a clean tone, but whew that is fantastic.

  • He is from El Salvador

    hell yeah

watch dream lore from El Salvador

  • george kollias > pete

  • i love pete is the best

  • This is MACHINE.

  • GREAT DRUMMER!!

  • Comment removed

  • fucking awesome!terrorizer/morbid angel rules!!!!!!!

  • killing that shit in huge ass boots!! Haha, fuck em up Pete!!

  • they aint that big

  • Viva El Salvador!!!

  • I mean - if there is a Legend in whole Death Metal, it would probably be this guy - Pete Sandoval. How many drummers have tried to top this man over the years? Hundreds? Thousands, perhaps? You know what - they failed! They maybe (maybe) got faster but nothing else, really. A Legend.

  • well said..look at the folks hes inspired...T Laureano among one is a huge fan..mean drummer too! Legend he is..

  • @gavrosaurus : agree..they are faster but not precise and complex like him. But when i listen to John Merryman (Cephalic Carnage)'s style, i think he plays quite unique like Pete.

  • @gavrosaurus Pete's great. I just don't hear many different styles from him. He is one of the best DM drummers alive though.

  • @gavrosaurus only one guy is close to the same dr<egree of madness than sandoval , and is Gene Hogland . Diffente style , but nobody can top thse two god behind a kit , a steam for a whhole next generation of extreme drumme (maybe.........)

  • @gavrosaurus Thank you for pointing out why modern death metal drummers suck. I'm surprised there are 23 other people who agreed.

  • @gavrosaurus when it comes to the subject of deathmetal legends its pete and vietek

  • look at his feet xd

  • Fucking insane.

  • Sandoval fucking ruless !!!

  • If I didn't know who this was and if he didn't play this in front of thousands of people, I would have thought he would have sped it up or take hours doing one part at a time.

  • rapture fucking rules!!!!!

  • he's really pushing the pedals too. cool

  • It does blast beats with only one pedal.

  • if you dont your a noob joey jordison lol

  • fuck Joey Jordison and all fans of shit

  • @Rodrigosuprem ok dude i love Jordison as a drummer but im still saying that Sandoval kicks his ass!

  • @Rodrigosuprem THANK YOU!

  • hes playing shitty

  • what about your playing? Pretty sure that you're not even a drummer.

  • im pretty sure i am i cant prove it without telling you alot of shit you dont care about like i use pearl eliminator pedals. i have a tama imperialstar drum kit 2 ziljain A custom crashes oriental china meinl mega belll ride and a shitty B8 hi-hat. oh and 3 rack toms and 2 floor toms with a 22 inch bass drum and black panther snare drum. ddrum trigger on bass drum and mics on the toms and etc. i love playing metal my favorite band is opeth and you dont care. :)

  • You're right, i don't care about things people on youtube can tell me especially when there is no proof, send me a picture and i'll believe you , don't tell me you don't have anything to take pictures it's 2009 goddamnit.

  • how can you hit 250 easy? do you use a practice pad for your kicks? if you have neither and have never played drums you obviously cant hit that much and if you've been practicing with your drum teacher theres no way

  • LOL, fuck up at 3:27!

  • he's a fuckin beast!

  • damned he's fast

  • Sandoval invented the blast beat back in86 and he'll be the first one to tell you that! Hail Pete and Morbid!

  • Blast Beat? I don't know my drummer terminology...could you fill me in? Thanks!

  • he didnt invent the blast, but he pioneered the ACCURATE blasting that almost everyone uses today. hail commando!

  • Pete is just fucking sick!!!All you assbag"I wish I was Pete"cameras too fast to slow whiners just shut the hell up and dig it.If Petes playing drums for Trey he's got to be good!!

  • why is this sped up, look at the cymbals. Its like the wing bolts are on there super tight.

  • that's because they are.

  • but thats really bad for your cymbals, plus some of the camera movements look a little too fast.

  • its completely possible to move a camera that fast. and besides, if it was sped up, the singers vocals wouldnt be that low

  • i think the camera has a low framerate now that i look carefully, sometimes that makes things seem sped up.

  • Check out some other Pete Sandoval stuff, he's one of the fastest out there. This isn't even his best.

  • Dude, commando is one of my fav drummers man! I have Covenent, its one of my favorite Death Metal albums, im not criticizing him. Sorry if you got me wrong.

  • Am I really seeing a drummer criticize a drumming style because of how bad it may be for cymbals? What in the world?! You play your stuff the way you want it to sound, not last. They'll make more.

  • plus Pete has been at it a long time

  • just because he does not show what you like does not mean he isn't capable

  • Yes, the song is indeed rapture. Does anyone know why this video might be shown in a semi time lapse fashion? It's obvious it's being shown faster then what it really is.

  • Doesn't look sped up at all to me. Syncs up well with the music

  • I agree the music & video are in a good sync, maybe it's just the way the camera is. I could swear when seeing the few glimpses of Eric Rutan over on the right, that it just looks kinda a little fast, more like time lapse then sped up?

  • The filming goes at normal speed, then it looks like it goes faster, to keep in sync, it happens quite often.

  • Thanks dude. I was kind of figuring it was something to do with that.

  • No prob :P

  • Those riffs are so silky I'd pay to make love on them, pete is beasting on the drums as always, hail!

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome!!!!

  • its only because pete and morbid angel were never on mtv every 15 minutes like shitknot was that joey dude is weak the only way he could sound better is if he put his face in petes set and let beat beat on his face like a drum

  • He makes it almost look easy.

  • Correction: He does make it look easy.

  • RAPTURE

  • what song is this

  • "Rapture" i think

  • cant fuck wit pete commando

  • Jordison owns............Nah im kidding obviously, i had to say it seen as though you said it. Anyone with any brains knows Sandoval was as talented as this when Jordison was in the vag.

  • im suprised there hasnt been some dumb fuck saying "OMG JOEY JORDIZON IZ LIEK SO MUCH BETTER"

if anybody could do such a thing after witnessing pete, then they have to be deaf AND blind

    petes my favorite drummer

  • Comment removed

  • How can he double pedal like that with those boots? those legs must be very strong.

  • Def takes getting used too. Gene Hoglan (SYL) wears the same boots, and has equally fast feet.

  • te cagas

  • pete "cthulu"sandoval!!!

after him the void...chaos..dark space of eternity...

  • fuckin incrediballzzz. cannot belive that..lol

  • he's wearing a but? wow....

    large set!!!

    commando rules!!!

  • holy shit i knew he was good but that fucking nuts!!

  • Pure fucking power.

  • I played this song at my wedding. Songs are so powerful and evoke so much emotion. At my vesectomy I played "Cuts Like a Knife" by Brian Adams.

Death Metal is the best music to masturbate to. If I turn it really loud while milking my sperm spear, I can imagine Satan is singing to me personally.

  • Thank you so much donostacy I haven't laughed this hard in a while...

  • I have somthing you should try. My little brother farts into his hand then holds it over his nose so that he gets the full effect and smell of the fumes. It's called a gas mask. It's kind of like a dutch oven but less gay. I think a metal head like you would like the emotion.

  • LOL whackin off to death metal

  • He's not human, simple as that. lol

  • PETE is the man!!!

  • He looks super skinny, I thought he was a huge guy, lol.

  • I think he uses triggers just so he can preserve the oldschool sound with ease. His kits triggered all over but still sounds like its from the early 90's, fucking love it!!

  • MAESTRO de MAESTRO!!!! increible como se saca la puta el pana... esperamos a MORBID ANGEL el 26/06/2009 en Quito-Ecuador... !LARGA VIDA AL DETH METAL!!!!!

  • as hard as hit hits the drums why does he use triggers on every drum

  • This is the guy who learn double kick drums in one moth correct??? COMMANDO

  • Pete is amazing! I wish there was some old Terrorizer footage.

  • xaxa malaka den th palevei .... pws ta spaei etsi !

  • akrivws.....o typos alla3e ton tropo p paizontai ta drums

  • Deathly thin because if you played drums like that for a little over a hour for almost every day on tour, damn. Guy is possessed.

  • Hail Morbid Angel!!!!!!! Original Deathmetal and forever!!

  • them chicken legs are some of the fastest shits ive ever seen..freakn beast!

  • words can't express what this man has done for the metal world...PETE...FUCKING...ROCKS (like a stuffed animal filled with cyanide)!

  • I love this song, and I just realized how sickly pete looks.

  • I agree, he looks sickly and deathly thin.He only smokes weed ,supposedly. I hope he is ok. :-/

  • I hear he drinks quite a bit, so that might be part of it. But man, fuck, playing like this at his age, he's bound to be sinewy. No fat. All muscle.

  • He might drink socially, but he stopped hardcore drinking years ago (probably around the time Pintado passed)and he is all into energy drinks and is also vegetarian. You're right, with him playing at 44 years old, he has no fat whatsoever but I think something else is going on. He's the best--hope he lives a long life--he's a legend!!! Whatever happened to the instructional video he was supposed to do?! Anyone know?

  • The vegetarianism thing probably explains it. That really leans a person up, and again, this guy is damn active.

I was wondering about the video thing myself. He was talking about it back in the mid 90's, so I figure he just blew it off. Besides, others now have more than filled the gap (e.g. Derek Roddy).

  • its a machine, sent back in time from the future, in combat boots

  • hahaha

  • Morbid Angel in Colombia-SA in May 2009 after 5 years of their first show!!!

  • RAPTURE!

  • Petes one of the fastest!

  • Morbid Angel in Colombia-SA in May 2009 after 5 years of their first show!!!

    Ride the Wings of Death!

  • el padre of all faster death metal drumers....pete rules forever....

  • Jesus freaking christ! i have to wear my sneakers to play and this guy plays whit a rocky combat boots!... this boots are made for walking... and i gonna walk all over you...

  • petes got the best style, one-foot blasting all the way! kudos on the shirt/boots combo :D

  • ha ha his shirt is tie die

  • yeah!!! lol long live the pearl jam era

  • Combat boots drum attack!!!!!!!!!!!

  • rapture!!!!!!!!

  • Pete was for sure my primary blast-beat influence, though I don't agree with his using of only one foot for the blasts... I alternate!
