Jimmy Spicer is one of the most unsung contributors to hip-hop/rap music.

Thanks for posting this one for us to listen!!!

  • This is real breakdance material here.

I used to be a b-boy; then I quit because modern culture was full of creeps who were too deeply in denial to respect me.

  • Fuck Maino aka LaMe-O! ...check out Too Short- She loves Her. Beat is Crazy

  • Did Jimmy Spicer write this song? I recognize the sample, but can't place it.

  • @hsdscsds Yes sir, Spicer is the original man of this track!!! This was the shiznit back in the day...I was 'bout 9 years old jammin'! Ironically, I end up havin' a daughter who is related to the brotha on her mama's side!!!

  • @hsdscsds Yes...He wrote this wit' The Orange Crush production team which was Dave Reeves (DJ Davy DMX), Russell Simmons (Russell Rush), the legendary Larry Smith, 'n Kurtis Blow!!! Those cats went on to success wit' Run DMC, Whodini, Fat Boys, that classic breakbeat "Action" (which they also used for "Sucker MCs"/Run DMC) Davy DMX "One For The Treble"...I mean they had the early to mid 80s on lock togetha or solo!!!

  • @hsdscsds Yes...He wrote this wit' The Orange Crush production team which was Dave Reeves (DJ Davy DMX), Russell Simmons (Russell Rush), the legendary Larry Smith, 'n Kurtis Blow (tho' he wasn't on this song)!!! Those cats went on to success wit' Run DMC, Whodini, Fat Boys, that classic breakbeat "Action" (which they also used for "Sucker MCs"/Run DMC) Davy DMX "One For The Treble"...I mean they had the early to mid 80s on lock togetha or solo!

  • YUP...this is one of the most sampled beats to date!...shit is so on point it can make almost anybody rappin' over it sound good....lol

  • Do The Baseball. NYC summer of 1983!

  • I just wish this could be cited in the wiki article with the Wycliffe song, "Sweetest Girl" because they make mention of Wu Tang, but they don't go back enough in rap history to Jimmy Spicer -- Money is a rap standard.

  • Maino and AZ

  • @nabaribana LoL..great quote..sad its true

  • Jimmy Spicer is such an underrated rapper. To me, he was the best.

  • in the beginning of Hi Hater

  • Hi Hater. I See You haha

  • Mad Cobra - Big Long John remix!

  • MC Ren kill'd this wit' he 'n Eazy's group C.P.O. back in the 90s...by the way, Jimmy Spicer is my daughter's cousin (on her mother's mother side...also, both are blood relatives to the great songstress Sarah Vaughn).

  • im only 14 but this is better than sum fake rappers like 50 cent p diidy nd dipset

  • I remember going to the clubs back in da day and someone would be playing this on the boombox in train in NYC.

  • HI HATERS

  • De La Soul also used this beat, Classic OLDSCHOOL!!!!!

  • Jam to the beat.

  • Yo, dont forget DollaDollaBill is made 100% out of canvas a.k.a. hemp!

    peace ya`ll

  • the first part in this beat souinds like that too short song she loves her

  • yes jimmy spicer!!!!!!

  • "Maceo what goes on? Maceo what goes on?" De La Soul "Bitties in the BK Lounge".. Dope!! & of Course Wu-Tang C.R.E.A.M.

  • Dollar Bill Yall

  • Oh my god, I just watched 10 seconds of Li'l Wayne's "Lollipop" and couldn't go on. I had to go to this track to recover. :p Li'l Wayne = Garbage! Sadly, he's not the only big-time rapper that sucks---too many of them have gone the way of lazy rhymes, idiotic videos and autotune.

  • they should make this son mandatory at scools

  • yeah,old school brooklyn..dollar bill yall....

  • So wait did anyone spot the original? Mt Airy Groove. Pieces Of A dream (Electra)...Damn I'm good.

  • @frankiebones01 The original of what??? Of this beat right here???

  • Time to make this a ringtone

  • @hart70 - You are right, KISS FM and WBLS had this song locked back in the day! Funny hearing the ryhme style of the MCs back then. The lyrics were very simple, clean, and relevant. WTF happened to this new crop of "artists"??

  • @feistychick70

Rap was raw and real, it was passion an art...but then the big Record companies saw the potential..greed....

The rappers back then were just in it for the love, but the companies were in it for the money, so they slowy weeded the Genius out, and brought in a bunch of fake rappers...and well we know how the story ends...Jay-z, P-diddy, DMX, and all the other fake funks!!

  • Yo jay-z aint that bad. Too bad whats left is garbage though. all theses rappers these days juss care bout makin money. shame people put idiot ryhmes above creativity

  • @Saru86p No doubt about that. That's why I'm an illuminati basher 100%.

  • @mxnfx Please explain why you think DMX is a fake funk.

  • @mxnfx You make a good point, but like the lyrics say in this song IT TAKES MONEY!!!!

  • @mxnfx true, true...you forgot to mention: 50 cent, eminem and shits like them who always ends in jail...pity.

  • @mxnfx dmx aint fake fuckface

  • @mxnfx DMX FAKE? B . PLEASE!!!

  • @mxnfx uhhhh jay-z is not fake bro...at least not at first just listen to Reasonable Doubt

  • @mxnfx I couldn't agree with you more - Now days "Rap" is bullshit :( I write rap and sing myself but I do it for the love to the music, I don't care of people love it or hate it. I do it because I think it is fun and I love the music. And I use old school beats:) None of this newdays bullcrap

  • @mxnfx at least jayz isnt all about the bitches and hoes

  • @mxnfx they also poisoned the message...little by little...until the youths were poisoned...peace...

  • @mxnfx I agree, but DMX shouldn't be on that list... lol

  • jimmy spicer even recorded "this is it" for def jam in 1985 produced by rick rubin.

in this day n age this would be impossible as the industry has become a greedy hoe business

  • 71st!

  • Haha!! the guy was trying too hard (at 35 sec) when he said "money on your nine to five" (pronouncing five "FOYYYVE!!!!").

How funny this is today. LOL

  • BDizzleNY06,

Thanks a million for "finding" this for me. I only have it on a cassette that I recorded from WESU in Middletown, CT back in the day.

I couldn't find it anywhere using any search engine... only the songs that sample it.

This Irish/English/Scottish FWB caught the funk back in the late '70s and I've been illin' ever since.

    Thanks again.

  • Thank you for sharing this one....classic old skool baseline.....even if the rap is a little weak...

  • Comment removed

  • how old r u my dude?

  • "Maseo what goes on, Maseo what goes on???"

  • WRMS...

  • I don't know.

  • I knew I heard this somewhere before that Maino track. Everything now is samples. I was born 10 years too late.

  • hip hop is a genre of samples...have been since the days of dj kool herc and afrika bambaata. there is nothing wrong with sampling ;)

  • Yo the sampling of breaks is what started hip hop in the first place. Agree wit you yo

  • @handsomecubanoisback I kno' that's right, but U still have to B responsible, 'n respectful when U samplin'...not like how P. Diddy was doin' it years back when he basically "kill'd the art" for a moment!!!

  • Maino-Hi hater

La the Darkman- What thugs do

  • dang maino's version is exactly the same

    disappointment
