Emmis Broadcasting did the best they could to put a dent in KMEL's rating, but no way were they going to dethrone Rick Chase and Evan Luck in their respective slots. A good run top 40 station that switched to Oldies KFRC.
i never thought back to hear a radio station in the bay area i have 16 years out of californiai live in mexico now finally back to the past, this radio station no longer exists
ok, i remember there was a slow-jam duet (guy/girl) they only played on this station and I NEVER FOUND WHAT THE SONG WAS... can any1 help??
they were also the only ones who played the remix version of b52s - Roam (b/c the other stations were too into rap by this time or too slow to play dance songs, like k101)
PS: party line?!!! i remember that!! HAHA....
PS #2: the kbhk 44 cartoons, saturday monster movies, star trek marathons... memories
Haha, Dino :) I totally saw him and Cover Girls open up for New Kids on the Block about a year later in Oakland :)
Oh, how I loved this station. I listened religiously until I moved away in late '90. Freestyle is still a top guilty pleasure for me, thanks to X100 :)
Random memory: Didn't they play an 8+ hour mix of Cold Hearted Snake one day? Heh.
Great post. I wish today's radio could be as exciting like it was pre 96 Telecommunications act. You could hear in the clip the variation of Rick Allen's famous "from the top" top of the hour station I.d. For hot 97 in NY.
@j85 Actually the voice guy is the late Chuck Riley. Chuck was the main ID voice of Hot 97/NY, Power 106/LA, WAVA/Washington, DC, WLOL/Minneapolis, and other stations.
Willard Johnson is that Super Snake real name?

@mephatboi Could it had been Will To Power's "Baby, I Love Your Way/Freebird"? It came out in late 88/early 89?

@myjupiterstar He probably did. When he went to KKFR/Phoenix after X100, he did the same bit there.
