It went like "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" I liked it probably ever since I first heard it when I was what, a year or two old? I'm not sure if there is a Christmas song I've heard that I don't really like. There aren't many songs that I've heard that I have distaste for.
Oh, and I have three favorite Christmas songs. My traditional favorite is "The First Noel, my comedy favorite is "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch," and my more contemporary favorite is "Mary, Did You Know?" I also like "Adeste Fidelis" and "Do You Hear What I Hear?" Can you tell I have a hard time picking favorite songs? I have at least two LEAST favorites, too. "Jingle Bells Dog/Cats," and "The Christmas Shoes." That last one just makes me want to PUKE it's so emotionally smarmy.
For as long as I can remember, the family Christmas tree has gone up the day after Thanksgiving, so in my opinion, they should hold off on the Christmas music until AT LEAST that late. My fiancee works at Big Lots and tells me that they've already started it in his store, too. I suspect they are starting so early because they are expecting really poor sales this year due to the poor economy, and so they are trying to kick start the Christmas spending early.

Someone said they play it in stores earlier because people are shopping earlier. I think it's becoming more so that people are trying to beat the rush and get some shopping done before everything gets too crowded. I know I ask (and give others) present ideas around mid-late November, so that happens among people I know.

I hate it!! They were bringing out Christmas crap before Halloween, fer crap sake! To me, you properly celebrate Thanksgiving, (which has now been buried altogether), and you digest it for a week, and THEN you can start with Christmas.

Oh and also, favorite "religious" song (just because it's usually beautifully arranged) is Oh Holy Night and favorite novelty song is Walkin Round in Women's Underwear.

I will NOT buy anything from a store that runs C'mas adds before Thanksgiving. And we here at our radio stations I work on start C'mas music on black friday.
What I don't like is classic Xmas songs that are already perfect that were sung by Nat King Cole, Perry Como, etc remade by contemporary "artists" like Taylor Swift or Beyonce or whoeva. If it was done right the first time, then play that one on the radio, m'kay?
Judy Garland's rendition of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" is a WONDERFUL song to slow dance to!! That gorgeous voice of hers floating through the air as you embrace your loved one and sway to the music. Now that's Christmas!! Another favorite of mine is another slow-dancer, "I'll Be Home For Christmas". Beautiful.
My least favorite is "Do You Hear What I Hear". That's the most annoying song out there! You know why, too, ZIpster. You said it yourself, last year! Think Back.
I like Christmas music (although I tend to like the original records a little better with a few exceptions) Thanksgiving should have 24 hours of Alice's Restaurant and then at midnight LET THE SEASON BEGIN. Back when I had a job and the nice paychecks that come with said job; it was my goal to get at least one big savings item. People are happy with whatever you get them I am after THE HUNT :D As far as fav songs The Transiberan Orchestra is my fav and anything by the Muppets :)

The reason they start the music so early, is because though Christmas is 6 weeks away, people are out Christmas shopping now. They started doing that here a few years ago. When my kids were younger and we did christmas shopping right about this time, I would play Christmas CD's in the car.
I think they should start playing Christmas music on December 1st (It is the beginning of the Christmas month, you know.) Also, my favorite Christmas song would have to be Where are you Christmas by Faith Hill or Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee. My least favorite would have to be The Twelve Days of Christmas.

The grocery store where I work just set up all the xmas stuff...and there is a singing xmas tree by the checkout...and it sings xmas songs...in an annoying voice! I HATE IT so much. When I was a religious man, we believed in putting up and decorating the tree Christmas Eve and leaving it up for all 12 days of Christmas (until January 5). Most people aren't religious about Christmas any more, so I don't know what they do now. During Advent, it's a little kind of Christmassy, though, so let's say the first Sunday of Advent is the start... just to throw a day out there! LOL
I am 34 years old and until this year, I have been a staunch opponent of people getting ready for Christmas before the day after Thanksgiving. The stores, the radio, the Hallmark Channel... bleh.
However, this year my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. My mother, one aunt and myself have taken control of the care-giving and sadly, my Mimi seems to be going downhill quickly. As this may truly be her last Christmas, I've gone overboard trying to recapture my childhood holiday.

Someone said they play it in stores earlier because people are shopping earlier. I think it's becoming more so that people are trying to beat the rush and get some shopping done before everything gets too crowded. I know I ask (and give others) present ideas around mid-late November, so that happens among people I know.
I always liked Hark, the Herald Angels Sing and Joy to the World. Don't forget AC/DC's Mistress for Christmas! LOL.

I hate it!! They were bringing out Christmas crap before Halloween, fer crap sake! To me, you properly celebrate Thanksgiving, (which has now been buried altogether), and you digest it for a week, and THEN you can start with Christmas.
I'v gotten so soured on Christmas music in recent years that I actually don't like any of it anymore. Maybe a few traditional carols on the Eve, but that's about it.

I don't think Christmas music should start until the day after Thanksgiving at the earliest. As for my favorite songs, I'm not sure if they really count as Christmas music in the traditional sense but I love Straight No Chaser's 12 Days of Christmas and Christmas Can-Can.

Judy Garland's rendition of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" is a WONDERFUL song to slow dance to!! That gorgeous voice of hers floating through the air as you embrace your loved one and sway to the music. Now that's Christmas!! Another favorite of mine is another slow-dancer, "I'll Be Home For Christmas". Beautiful.
My least favorite is "Do You Hear What I Hear". That's the most annoying song out there! You know why, too, ZIpster. You said it yourself, last year! Think Back.

I like Christmas music (although I tend to like the original records a little better with a few exceptions) Thanksgiving should have 24 hours of Alice's Restaurant and then at midnight LET THE SEASON BEGIN. Back when I had a job and the nice paychecks that come with said job; it was my goal to get at least one big savings item. People are happy with whatever you get them I am after THE HUNT :D As far as fav songs The Transiberan Orchestra is my fav and anything by the Muppets :)

The reason they start the music so early, is because though Christmas is 6 weeks away, people are out Christmas shopping now. They started doing that here a few years ago. When my kids were younger and we did christmas shopping right about this time, I would play Christmas CD's in the car.

I honestly don't mind hearing any Christmas music now...really doesn't bother me. But I still also do think/agree that it is too early. I think a good time to start playing it is somewhere around maybe Thanksgiving or a bit after. I forget the name of the station, but there is a radio station around here that starts the music super early too and plays until sometime after Christmas.

JULY! :D I could listen to christmas music all year long.. My favorite is Mary, Did you Know? and my least favorite is Grandma Got ran over by a Reindeer.. Haven't heard the one you are talking about but I'm sure that woudl be up there too! ..and it was funny last year I coudln't even find a station playing Christmas music except for the local christian channel close to Christmas.. This year I found an online radio source so I've been listening to that a lot.. Take care!

I think the day after Thanksgiving is perfect.....I think the same about putting decorations up in the store, A few days before Halloween, Walmart put up their Christmas decorations!!! Christmas music shouldn't be on the air until AT THE EARLIEST, December 1st. As for my favorite Christmas songs, "Jingle Bell Rock," "Holly, Jolly Christmas," and "Let It Snow!" are my picks (although I consider "LIS!" to be more of a winter song than a Christmas song). And I don't really have a least favorite Christmas song, but I find all the 'pa-rum-pum-pum-pum'-ing in "Little Drummer Boy" exremely annoying.

Black Friday. Oh, I once went to New Jersey's High Point State Park last year in July. Bad move as it was July 25th and the park had this little "Christmas in July" concert by the lake. So instead of peace and quiet I had to endure a Jimmy Buffett sound-alike band doing Christmas songs 5 months before the real day. UGH!!!

Pretty much like most of the traditional ones (It Came Upon a Midnight Clear; Silent Night, etc.) along with the fun ones (Santa Baby, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree). Don't know Dominic the Ass. The grocery store where I work just set up all the xmas stuff...and there is a singing xmas tree by the checkout...and it sings xmas songs...in an annoying voice! I HATE IT so much. You can hear the stupid thing half way across the store. At least we haven't changed the store radio to the holiday channel yet.

The 12 Pains Of Christmas By Bob Rivers is my favorite as is Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer! I don't really have on that I don't like. They should start playing Christmas music 1 week before Christmas.

Well, personally, I think after Thanksgiving is the best time to start getting all 'Christmassy'...LOL! My favorite Christmas song is 'Carol of the Bells'. My least favorite...ok...I'll get razzed for this since it is so popular: 'Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer'...ok...I said it...LOL!

I think they should at least wait until a week after December starts to begin the Christmas stuff. Maybe it's just 'cuz nobody ever thinks to make Thanksgiving music?

I personally am fine with it, although it doesn't FEEL like it until after thanksgiving. I seriously just took down my Christmas stuff to make sure it was all there..lol. My favorite christmas song is "Here Comes Santa Clause" by Gene Autry.

I think it should start Dec 24 and end Dec 25. I don't want to ruin anybody's fun but if one more person tells me a should be happy because it's Christmas I'm going to scream.
My favorite song is "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" because it is what this season means to me, the light of hope in a dark depressing world.

Oh, God, not the Carpenters at Christmas! It's far too soon this year, just ruins it for so many I think.
My favorite is "O Holy Night."
Least favorite is those annoying dogs barking "Jingle Bells."

Well here in Canada it's not early at all cause we already had our thanksgiving (not that big of a deal here like in the US). Christmas here is a huge deal. So it's already started here. And just a note some if the Xmas decos in our $ stores aren't too bad. My face Xmas song is winter wonderland going to have to agree with one person jingle bells has died for me too lol. Love ya Zip.

When I was a religious man, we believed in putting up and decorating the tree Christmas Eve and leaving it up for all 12 days of Christmas (until January 5). Most people aren't religious about Christmas any more, so I don't know what they do now. During Advent, it's a little kind of Christmassy, though, so let's say the first Sunday of Advent is the start... just to throw a day out there! LOL

I am 34 years old and until this year, I have been a staunch opponent of people getting ready for Christmas before the day after Thanksgiving. The stores, the radio, the Hallmark Channel... bleh.
However, this year my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. My mother, one aunt and myself have taken control of the care-giving and sadly, my Mimi seems to be going downhill quickly. As this may truly be her last Christmas, I've gone overboard trying to recapture my childhood holiday.

My favorite is Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire By Michael Buble it always puts me in the mood. I hate the donkey the barking dog or any spoof Christmas songs. I am ready to get in the mood for Christmas. I think Nov 15 is early enough to start playing Christmas music.

There are so many christmas songs I like! Right now, I'm sorta into 'Santa Baby', so I'll just say that's my favorite. My least favorite is Jingle Bells- yeah, I said it! XD
While I'm kind of having premature Christmas syndrome myself, I really think this is way, way too early to start playing music on the radio. If we get into it too early, we'll get tired of it all before December even gets here. Or so is my opinion. =)
