Cgarris, as much as I like your tribute I think leaving out Rolie (ok he sings one line...) and Fleischman who were both lead singers BEFORE Perry joined doesn't do justice to either both singers or the band's history.

Clearly the band was most successfull during the Perry years and they produced their greatest and best songs with him. But Journey didn't start with SP neither did it end with his depature. Perry's vocals however still remained as a blueprint for every new JRNY vocalist!

Even tho he didn't write once for Journey but as long as he can sing for them with his AMAZING VOICE as a man of many talented voices. He can sing any known songs in the UNIVERSE!! Peace!!

I really liked Steve Augeri. Not only did he do justice to Perry's songs but he also brought songwriting dynamics into the mix as well. He wasn't just a sound alike, the band seemed to actually musically grow. I liked the harder edge that many of the songs took on. While I mean no disrespect to Arnel, it bothers me that the band seemas to just forget everything that Steve A. did. None of the Augeri material is performed anymore, and it seems like they're just rehashing the Perry era.

I know Kevin Chalfant sang with Journey back in 1993. They were playing at a small club "Bimbo's". It was a roast for Herbie Herbert - to raise money for inner-city kids. Perry declined, so Chalfant stepped up. He is awesome! Good song writer too!

Folks, I am a "white guy" too, but I think it is WRONG to compare singers. It is like comparing, well, apples and oranges. But let me tell you this: It is ALL ABOUT VOCALS. I love the previous versions, too, but this guy Arnel Pineda whacks this song with emotion and great pitch and vocals. He may not have the looks of your favorite singer, but, heck, he delivers the same song with passion. YOU NEED A SINGER TO SING A SONG, NOT A GQ MATERIAL! This guy is a SINGER!

Steve Perry did not put the band on the map single-handedly. He is a good singer and the band is very good, so they backed each other,and produced good music together. People give him a chance, you may actually appreciate his talent. That being said NO ONE COMPARES TO THE REAL VOICE AND THE BEST VOICE - that being STEVE PERRY.
