  • Lovely to hear this song again after so many years, thanks for the posting. Can you help? I seem to remember my father's version began with a brief snippit of the start of MORNING from the Peer Gynt Suite. Are you aware of such a version at all or is my brain totally befuddled? Thanks again, Pete

  • Funny song,I have this song with Jack Hylton and his orch

  • My dad always talked about this song, as one he remembered from his childhood, but only remembered the title! - I never thought it actually existed until I heard this - thanks so much for sharing it!

  • Reminds me of me nanna.

  • I had another version of this, sung by Leslie Sarony, with a second verse - it went something like:

"... it was time he settled down,

He found a girl in town,

By the name of Mary Brown,

    ... never raise a family

    ... it's a bet that

On his wedding night he's sure to be

    Mucking about the garden, etc"

    Anyone got that one?

  • 85scampi, Wonderful, Thank you. Regards, J.

  • Thanks for posting this. Such a reminder of British radio back in the 1940's etc. The speaking voice is Tommy Handley.

  • I missed this one yesterday whilst going through all the stuff i had missed!I love this-"uncle Joe in his little bungalow"just reminds me of my old Uncle Albert who was always "mucking about the garden",and lived in a 1920s bungalow!!

  • Very special blend of band music, folksong-like tune and sketch performance! A rather atypical Payne recording, in fact, which makes it interesting.
