Jim Reeves"s songs still live in my heart. The 1st one I fell for was, Put Your sweet lips a little closer to the phone. He was still alive then. When he died the world lost one of it's greatest, not just America. His music is appreciated by both young and old, Thank God for him.
To this day, nobody has ever sung in a rich mellow, baritone voice like the one Jim Reeves had. This song is an example of the unique talent that Reeves possessed as a country & western crooner. Lovely song.

I haven't gone through all the pages of comments, somebody may have already pointed this out, Jim recorded this song at his last RCA Studio B session on July 2, 1964. It was originally released as an album cut on the 1968 LP "A Touch Of Sadness', then as a single in 1972, along with being the title track from the 1972 "Missing You" LP.
This song was released circa 1970, years after Jim's passing. It hit the Top10 of the country charts. I was a high school kid at that time, and loved it ... still do.

What a beautiful video to team up with one of the most touching songs ever. Jim Reeves absolutely blew the other country singers out of the water with the possible exception of the great Johnny Cash. But JR's voice had perfect tone.I think PaulinaRena said it better than I ever could. Kudos to a wonderful video. Thank you so much for posting.
I've always been real selective on Jim Reeves songs. Don'ty ask me why. I've just never been his biggest fan though I liked Mexican Joe, This is It, I know one and a few others. but this is absolutely the most beautiful recordings he's ever made IMO.
this is a great version from jim reeves have to say as much as i love all of jim reeves songs and i have loads of his records i still prefer ray peterson version
This has always been one of my favorite songs by Jim Reeves. I can listen to it for hours. Would be nice if they still made music like this today. I do not even listen to the radio anymore. Thanks for this.
It's been seven years since I lost my wonderful wife to cancer, so when I hear this song, many beautiful memories are relived. There are always tears, but there is also the assurance that all pain and suffering are gone and the best of life has begun and will never end.
This indeed is a memorable song, recorded by one of the top recording artists ever.
His sincere feeling and smooth style shines forth in all that he sings. Thanks for sharing such a great song and wonderful memories.
I miss my Jean so very much,we are thousands of miles apart. We both spend so much time emailing each other and talking on the phone. This lovely song helps to bring my beautiful Jean in Malta,
closer to me in the UK.She is a real ray of sunshine in my life, and makes me so happy. x
Jim Reeves sings these Beautifull Songs from Deep within his Heart,he had Special Feelings for Someone he Loved Very Much, what a Wonderfull Feeling that is. Pat
Oh I Just Love This song and The Beautifull Words he is Singing, and Those Words Are For The Love Of My Life. To He From Me.Love You Forever & Always,Pat
This song was sung by Jim at what would be his final recording session. All I can say is that he left this world to0 soon-What a voice!! Great video! Thanks for posting it!!
I have always loved this beautiful song. It says so much and is a love song that anyone can identify with if they've ever had a true love. Jim's fabulous, mellow, warm voice is unsurpassed and full of romance which is such a pleasure to hear. Moonwind, your video here is awesome and thank you so much for sharing it. - Paula
If I remember correctly, this song was not released unitl the early 70's, because of the suggestive lyrics..."...you were in my arms tonight making love to me." Chet Atkins who was the head of the label and said that in his opinion, the lyrics were too suggestive. When it was finally released, it went to #1.
This song was originally released as an album cut on the 1968 LP "A Touch Of Sadness" (the primary single from that album was "When You Are Gone"), then as a single (and as the title song on the "Missing You" LP) in 1972. I had always wondered why they didn't release it right after Jim died, I'm sure you're right about Chet Atkins (and perhaps Mary Reeves as well?) thinking those lyrics were too suggestive.
Missing You and SInce You Are Gone went to number 1 in the early 70's. You're right, Missing You was in his 1968 album but from what I remember, it was not heavily promoted as a single because of the lyrics. I'm thinking that Mary Reeves DID want all of his songs released but there was opposition because maybe the industry thought that it wouldn't work out finacially. I remember Atkins saying that there were a slew of Jim's songs that had never been released.
In the early 2000's a company called "Voicemasters" released some demos that had never been released before, many of them were very good. My two favorite previously unreleased vocals were "Subconscious Mind" and a rockabilly song, "Step Aside Shallow Water". I believe Jim wrote both of them, I know he wrote "Shallow Water".
A great song that was sung by quite a few artists, and several versions reached Top 40 status (while this didn't), but Jim's rendition was better than all of the rest, in my opinion.
My Dad's song.......oh God....his drinking song.He would say "put on Missing You" or "Sweet Caroline".And we would play the songs because we knew somehow it made him mellow and calm and happy.Bittersweet.........to my core.RIP. Oh,how i would love to put the record on again.........as the tears roll down my face.
