i remember this show!! and i remember that plane as well, the old stearman is one of my grandfather's favorite planes and i have had to pleasure to be passenger in one. love the sound
Gotta love those Stearmans.! The pilot did a fine job. As for the perceived margin of error, it can be far different when observing from the ground as spectator than what it actually is. Part of the draw to airshows.... Hook, line and sinker!
This is a very talented and skilled pilot. He does fly low, but that is not because of reckless daredevil, but rather because he is a master at managing 'energy'-remember Bob Hoover?--
I saw him at Sun 'n Fun 2008 and he was a most welcome change, a true breath of fresh air in sharp contrast to the tumbling extras...
the announcer said the smoke was from unburned fuel pumped into the exaust. I think it was oil, not fuel burning in the exaust system to make the smoke. The flying was super!
The best airshow pilot I have ever seen. Saw him at Tullahoma, TN. The moments where his engine coughs and flames are enough to send chills down my spine.
He flew so low at Tullahoma, he was touching the grass with his wheels!
As the late great DeForest Kelley once said, "I'd pay real money if he'd shut up"

This guy is great! I've seen him at the Galesburg Illinois Fly-In.

no, his engine was starving for gas, and the fumes of oil were burning from the smoke system.

Great flying---I was happy to keep our PT straight and level. I've never seen Mohr fly but I'd sure like to.

it unburned fuel because you make it go into the engine and that's how the smoke system works and you can make different color smoke as well?

no its oil that gets pumped into the hot exhaust, and ignited

John Mohr is one of the finest aviators I have ever witnessed. His aircraft energy skills remind me of Bob Hoover.
