  • Thanks! The way you break the move down step by step makes it easy to learn. Just learned it today, after smashing my lamp and smacking my face several times (using fire poys with the chains) but it was worth it.

  • CarSmashBoy... poi gravitate towards other swinging balls

  • Pllp

  • Very good video Nick! This is something I'm practicing a little wrong. I'll give the wall a shot and try to stop pretending the wall instead O_0.

  • i dont understand this.... when i do the three beat wave in the front and i make a mistake, it hits me in the nuts.... when i try to do the three beat wave behind my back, it wraps around and hits me in the nuts. can someone explain this to me?

  • thats awesome your a good teacher and such good vibes! love the location your a lucky fella being there looks nice ;)

  • You videos is the best help i have ever seen :) Thank you very much!!!

  • i had to much pain in my body..my right hand is fine but when i do it with my left hand alone,it kills me....its been a week and i cant do it.....

  • I have found that this isn't as difficult to learn if you've ever twirled.

  • I actually did this on accident via practicing full body crossersXD

  • I have been spinning poi for about a year and i still dont have the behind the back 3 beat weave yet. I will get it eventually!

  • i want your shirt

  • top of my arms / shoulders are strained, my calves have been hit so many times they are aching and i took a few sneaky hits to the nuts but its only taken me an afternoon to get the hang of the behind the back weave, thought it was gonna take me ages

  • hit myself right in the nuts when i tried this.

  • for some reason every time i can get it to go behind me but as it comes back it hits me in the leg... on,ly on the left side to hmmmm still; working tho

  • wow this is a really good tutorial!!!

i have been working on it for an hour or so now and im finally getting to the actually weaving!

my arms are definately gonna hurt in the morning :3

  • jajaja quedó bien pacheco el intro

  • I love the mask one backwards that you're wearing

  • Great tutorial nick!! ive gotten the BTB weave before, but not consistantly. Are you in contact with nathinel everist? he had a "comprehensive poi course" and some other suplementary material to go with it.. personally the only way i figured out how to do this one is by watching both viedos..

  • THANK YOU! :)

  • use tennis balls they dont hurt

  • @kermit368 tennis balls DO hurt, you just havnt hit yourself in the right spot.. if you catch my drift..

  • @vurdmeisterlucifur tell me about it...

  • @vurdmeisterlucifur He means the penis!

  • @dakafel orrrr the testicles..those hurt.

  • i hit my face every time i do it... T_T... but its OK no pain no gain right...

  • Awesome! I got it. Although it seems that the "harder" direction for most people is the easier one for me.

  • Your choise in clothing is amazing!

  • awesome mask :D

  • love the video! definitely taught me how to do it:)

  • you're an excellent teacher. especially to have lying around on youtube. thank you so much for this, man. practice makes perfect! (:

  • thanks a lot for this, man. it's good to have it when i need it. you're a great teacher.

  • He has a mask on back of his head... Wtf

  • me pegue en el ojo y me quedo morado! :S

    esto es peligroso!

  • Saw this earlier and kind of put out of my mind, but then I got curious and tried the going one at a time behind and now I am excited to learn this :)

  • im starting to learn poi and you're videos are a huge help to me since im learning on my own. thanks so much and you're awesome :)

  • Fantastic! Thank you so much!

  • Thank you SO MUCH! I learned this in about 10 minutes, love your tutorials :)

  • ya know everyone talks about getting smacked in the face YOU GUYS ARE LUCKY i get in in the testicals i cant sit for like 2 days after practicing a new move XD

  • 4 hits to the eye, and a few bruises later I finally got it! All thanks to your video..thank you thank you thank you!!! :D You're a great teacher Nick!

  • YES! I CAN FINALLY DO IT! ty Nick

  • wow, your such a good teacher, I got this almost working in a day, it'll take alot longer for me to be smooth but im happy thankyou.

looking foward to learning waist wraps.

  • Been trying this on and off for a while now but never had the patience/time to have a long session until I cracked it. I'm pleased to say I now have, my problem was that I wasn't rotating my body, makes life infinitely easier believe me!

Now.. time to practice turning into forward BTBW! Oh what joys to be had, and bruises to be made!

  • You rock dude! Got it pretty much down in 4 hours! Still kinda messy, but it is what it is. Thanks a ton!

  • did you make the poi balls that you're using or were they bought? i need help on making poi balls for polynesian dancing...can you help?

  • The same over here, cant do it!

Still trying, but I tried so many times...

  • fml, ive watched this like 1000 times in a row and still cant get this to work ... :*(

  • is that a dog sleeping ?

  • nice mask. see any tigers in bali?

  • I can do the backwards behind the backweave.. Bt I cant get the forwards behind the backweave.. Its killing me !

  • I find it real hard to go from one poi move into behind the back.. Any tips?

  • Dude you are the coolest guy on the net!! no shit, your style of dress, attitude and skills are amazing!

Love the panlled batik type pants where did you get them?

I study Chinese Chain whip and wont to move to Meteor Hammer and your vids are great for that!

    Keep the faith bro.

    Peace ;)

  • Ich konnte es in 1.15min echt gut erklärt!

  • Best tutorial ever! i learned it in 45 minutes (:

  • ccol moves

  • I tried to go straight to behind the back weave after two and three beat forward and reverse weave. I can do all the steps in the video, just can't put it together, so I gave up midway and tried the five beat. Got it in two days and now...I'm back.

  • I understand the theory and the motions now its all down to developing my flexibility. I am a new spinner and I have been faced with a large challenge, developing my upper body flexibility. I am very muscular and certain moves like this that call for a lot of flexibility have proven problematic

  • i totally understand i cant do like the 7 beat weave for the same reason

  • Lol I'm still figuring out the 5 beat weave

    Slow down there cowboy xD

  • well the 5 beat kind of just clicks after a while of practicing

  • this is rly helpful. awesome. thnks nick

  • dangit Nick, this video would've been sooo helpful when I was first learning behind-the-back! rargh! but I definitely agree with Mastress down there. You're a great teacher. I really like the atomic weave tutorial too, btw.

  • ur a good instructor.. please post more lessons and techniqes.. tnx... :)

  • I tried it now outside in my yard and my biceps HURT so MUCH I don't feel my arms! =D

  • you guys (who left all the other comments) are way toooooo funny ;)))

i broke my lamp too a year ago :))

and yes...whats with the left arm??? i think mine is a little stupid too

  • woww...thnx so much...i've been wanted to learn this since forever....and now..i've watched this video and played in the same time...and in 30 minutes i've learned ...

    thnx once again

  • XD cool mask jaja

my sock poi have a tennis balls inside

ive been hitting myself for like an hour

    :( damn but tnx

  • try something heavier. i had tennisballs, too. didnt worked with them, i put some lead weights into it, used for fishing normally. 100g more on each head worked wonders. much better now. and isolations are working allon there own now^^

  • i love the mask. funny effect when he turns around, lol

  • this vid really helps man cheers. its just taking its time cuz i've only got fire poi's an thats not fun when that hits you but i'm getting there.

  • @GadenGEI LOL good job

  • oh my god, those officially hurt the worst! Dx I've got welts all over my back TTvTT

  • OH dear!!!

Talk about hitting yourself with your poi...possibly the most i have, trying to learn this..ima be black and blue in the morning!! NEARLY GOT IT THO xox

  • u clothing is amazing and ur skill with poi ar ewen bether ;]

  • haha..didn't notice since this morning that there are two kind of behind the bw, fw and bw.. well.. yesterday i`ve cracked down the bw bbw and now i've just learned the fw bbw (again after ~2h) and contrary than the bw bbw it was harder to get that feeling but much much easyer to perform it.... i`m wondering if is any poi spinners forum..it would be nice to exchange tips with ppl from entire world :D

  • YOU ARE THE BEEEEESSSST !!! it's a fucking awesome feeling when u learn this! the seret is to concentrate very verry much and never give up untill u get it..to me it took abot 2 hours to earn this move..now all i have to do is perfect it cause i`m hiting myself a lot :D NICK, ONCE AGAIN THANKS FOR YOUR GREAT TUTORIALS!! i would still be a beginer without you! GREAT JOB!!

  • this move really is hard to get.. hahaha... but im trying..

  • Well..What can I say. THANKS A LOT NICK:) Since of bought my first pair fo Poi last month, that I've been seing all of your tutorials, you're great, thanks for being my inspiration. I one month I'am almost doing all that you consider the basics:)For me isolations are the hardest:) Keep on the good work:)

  • ohhh my godddd i tryed it an tryed it an tryed it but i think i'm tooooo stupidddddd!! it looks soooo easy at you!!!!!!!!! But you a great teacher!!! =)=)

  • awesome, love the way you break it all down, new to poi, but a total addict now love it all including the bruises lol, what a buzz when I learn a new move...you rock thanks from New Zealand

  • I bought jail house sock poi and they STRETCHED!!!!! they are about to fall apart and iv had them 4 like 2 weeks! :( its also annoying because it skims (because of the stretchiness) the ground and rips if there is any way i can stop this from happining eg swivles or something please let me kno

thanx for your tutorials btw they kick ass!

  • just re-tie the knot at the top to further down the poi and then trim the top off, i guess. u def shldnt let it skim the ground cuz if u get a hole in that end ur stuffed :P

  • haha cheers dude! I just trimmed it and made my own finger loops out of suspenders lol MUCH BETTER! i was starting to get fabric burn on my index fingers! IM ADDICTED TO POI!!! AHH!!! XD

  • Ive just safety pinned mine up and just wrap them round my fingers to whatevr length i want.

  • Great move, but simple and no-impressive :p

  • Thanks for doing tutorials! They're very helpful. :) i used the reference code and bought some kickass jailhouse sock poi! :) Keep up the good work!

  • u r are very good teacher..

  • wow i gotta say u really make a great tut here... ty for taking teh time ^^

  • Thanks for all your videos, they are so helpfull!! Greetings from Spain!

  • You guy are the bomb! Thanks for posting all these help videos! It's helping soooo much.

    Love your stuff!

  • i lovet!

i tried for like a month..

and doing the excercises, all day

    really woks

    thanks a lot!

  • Hey...have seen a couple of your other videos... mainly to confirm moves... but you so helped me get the extra beat behind the back... in the last 10 min i have just made my first clean set of weaves.

    Thank you, your a star.

  • You know I love how you did mess up, that shows a lot unlike these other videos i've watched, they do it so perfectly and yeah thank you for saying it will be akward just let the poi hit you hha. When I first started doing poi it's hit me so many times. Thanks for the tut though ^_^

  • Cheers Nik!! I was useless with the poi behind but you have broken it down perfectly...Your a star dude :)

  • thanks man this video helped alot it only took a couple min for me to get down the basics

  • get regular massages to keep your muscles resilient and flexible. that should help you stay loose to dance with poi and be fluid.

  • Nik, your lessons are soooo informative! Your explanation and breakdown of moves is just amazing, it really makes learning to spin A LOT easier. I feel like I'm going to have NO problem figuring this move out now that I've seen how you breakdown the move into an intuitive progress of motion. Brilliant! Keep spinning we'll all keep watching! P.S. "The Scales of Poi" Rocks!

  • hay i think that previous comment raised a good point, if you could give a video on what sorts of flexibilities you would need for what, and what stretches or what not you should do to improve that, that would be awesome... but it might just be easier to induce one relevant stretch at the end of the video, for your sake... till then, this was a great video and thanks

  • Man this vid is helpful but my prob lies in the fact that i have almost no flexibility in my shoulders. I can bearly clasp my hands and lift my hands off my back. My shoulder muscles are just so strong i didn't practice flexibility when training. Is there any exercises that i can do to help loosen up my sholders Nick?

  • stretch strech stretch and lay off the weights until you start getting supple again. Do Yoga or capoeira or anything that requires fluid movement. be patient and don't force your body get a good book on stretching finally, spinning the poi themselves will gradually make you more flexible

  • Ty teresalopezm! It has actually but very slowly. I had that trouble beginning yoga too. I had to have a lot of help so i just skipped out on the arm exercises. Even the easy ones were hard for me. I will look up and the tube and see if I can find some basic stretching. :D

  • I will master you some day btb 3bt weave! SOME DAY!

  • lol i feel ya man! i'm close but i cant quite get it

  • nik you are the best freakin teacher! haha i love your tutorials man keep them up. im starting to get very good at poi spinning. =D

  • This video is also INCREDIBLY HELPFUL. :] Thanks for posting it. Now there's more of a way to learn it, rather than my friend saying "DO THIS 8D" and me attempting to copy him. Haha.

  • "Do this in 8D"? Is your friend particle physicist?

  • lol wtf?

  • thanks nick! very well broken down. I'm off to practise now.

  • i just get to hit my face..

  • @rawrisimo hahaha i feel your pain m8 the same happens to me

  • thanks nick! wow. its so great to learn new moves from you. first i got hit on my eye by my ball poi after that i didnt noticed i made my eye black "black eye". hehe thanks nick. you really amazingly helped! PS: i got poi videos too. just showing what i learned from all of you. and give some opinion bout it. thanks.

More power to your site and company and Godbless. ;-)

  • thanks a lot that really helped :)

  • Nice! I made it after watching 1 and 1/2 minutes

  • wow o manches que chida expliacacion

  • im 13 and i can do thye forward weave but i cnt do the backwards weave and behing the back either.

  • wooooo!!!! thanks nick i could

never do that until now =]

  • I found that the key to consistently getting this is to really reach for it and stretch.

  • i love this! this weave seemed so impossible to an amateur like me but with video im so ready to go at it.

you are a great inspiration Nick, keep doin what you are doin because you're certainly making this world a happier place :)

  • OMG OMG!!! NICK!!~i finally got it, on june 6 at 10:53 AM. i must spin with you, let me know if you are ever going to come to cali and go to a rave in the la area, of if you are just going to be in the la area. i will drive as far as it takes to meet you and spin with you! p.s you are my hero and your magical poi powers will be with me forever. p.p.s. all the other moves i know you prety much taught me!

  • Hey Nick. After struggling for 3 to 4 years with BTBW, I finally, after comming across your video, nailed it on June 6, 2008 ~14:30. I'm so happy that I came across your video. Thanks a million and if you're ever in Canada (edmonton, alberta) Drop me a note and I'll treat you to a "Thank You" drink. You have been a great teacher and without you, I'd still be struggling with it! Keep up the good work. Peace, love and cookies for you my friend.

  • wow, so so helpful. I tried poi 3 years ago and stalled out at the weaves in front of me. without a patient and positive and dedicated teacher for each step you're interested in, I personally got too frustrated. stoked to get back into it! thaaank you a million

the specific moves are detailed and solid/calm

I would like to request some transition theory and full-bodied incorporations, if you have any idea what I'm asking

  • very good!

  • really great video, great teacher. thank you for taking the time to help!

  • hes like let the poi hit u man i would die i have no glowsticks atm so i decided i needed something a bit heavy so i threw some keys on it and when i hit myself i go .... OWOWOOWOOW

  • 1. if you were going to make it at home, you should have used old socks.

    2. practice poi are incredibly cheap to purchase.

  • well i glowstring not poi so its a bit different

  • Not exactly, Poi was the first to be created and glowstringing is a branch off it. The only difference in it would be that you can't grab a poi for a trick, glowstringing you can. There is no reason why someone can't use a sock poi or practice poi. I my self have a pair of practice poi, fire poi and glowsticks. So they all have a purpose. Practice poi well should be self explanatory by its self, glowstringing when I am in the dark, and fire poi when I'm feeling confident, so make a practice poi.

  • Fantastic instructional video! Thank you so much and continue to livewell!

  • after trying to learn BTB after sitting and watchign this video did i get it after about 5 minuts =D

  • what would you say the main differences are between the behind the back weave and waist wraps?

  • poi :) you should give it a try, just fallow the steps that this awesome teacher has taught. its an art. along with looking really really cool. it trains your muscles and your mind.

  • I love you. I love you. You're my hero!!! (runs to try) I got soooo frustrated because I was mooving my wrists way too much and looked like an idiot =_=

  • Ahhh! Wow! You're a truely awesome teacher! I loved your video! ~Favorite's, subscribe's, and add's you to Heros list :)~ You're like the buddha of poi :) P.S I loved the clothing! Where do I get some??!

  • When ever I get frustrated, I just watch one of your videos, and I feel like there IS hope! ^__^

Thank you. You really are the best teacher =D

  • Im a glowsticker and i found that from all the glowsticking tutorials i saw, your poi tutorial was the easiest one to follow and i basically got it now, thanks a ton man, i hope to begin poi one day

  • You should do a tutorial on behind the back wallplanes... haha.

  • Youre teaching is amazing...thanks a ton.

Do you have any instructional dvd's for sale..

I would love to have all your clips on one dvd...Happy spinning...Darrel

  • yes, I think sock poi are much better for beginners! :)

  • you have helped so very much. thank you!

  • Thank you!

    Nice website too!

  • I'm going to add my words of thanks and praises here. I've been trying to get this manouvre down for months and just couldn't. I've been doing your excercises the last two or three days and I've made enormous progress.

    Great instructions!!!! Thanks dude!!

  • Thank you again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for sharing your insight on the steps and excercises that naturally lead to the end result. I have YET to meet a teacher that has approached poi this way unfortunately, and it's the only way it works for me. Keep it up. We're here, we're watching and practicing—thanks.

  • this guy is brilliant! the step by step process helped alot. dont know what to think of that mask on the back of his head though *runs away*

  • Thanks for this great tutorial. I have always wanted to learn this move, but i felt it was too difficult. This tutorial has given me the insight and reassurances, that the move is not was complicated as it seems. I learnt this move and have it almost clean in an hour.

Many thanks - TommyTheRaver from genxglow dot com

    Youtube account name OutcastersTR

  • Ok... look... its a great video.. a great tutorial, I'm loving all the stuff you do, your flowers tutorial on here actually opened up a lot to do with ALL of the way I poi, people think I've been doing it years, when I've been doing it weeks... But that mask is kinda creepy. ^_^

  • Any advice on just exercises?

  • thanks~ i needed this so much! namaste

  • Nice tut Nick but what about your hair? :D

  • Yay! This is awesome! Teafaerie here. Where are you? Can I send your care package to you? Write me!

  • I still cant get forward weave behind, you kept on switching throughout which made it a bit harder. Great vid though. Acid-Search for hyperloop. Its the first 2 vids. :)

  • i said nice one geezaaaaah... ;-)

  • Brilliant tute Nick, I've always hit myself with forwards BTB weave, but never thought to think of it as a reverse weave behind your back! :-)

Can i be the first the make a request? A video tute on hyperloops and infinite hyperloops would be grand.
