  • eddie bravos jiu jitsu is for mma.. hes trying to improve jiu jitsu for mma and no gi.. People arent getting his point.. its pretty sad..

  • if you come from a gi back round u can still hang with no gi i dont think it works the other way around

  • No gi fighting makes sense only for those that strip naked before fighting.

  • gi, no gi, whatever i would compete with jacket and jeans, i love jiu jitsu

  • Both gi and no gi training has it's place. Simple as that. Watch Keith Owens video for a great explanation to the benefits of both gi and no gi training.

  • How about naked jiujitsu?

  • I don't understand the need to move away from Gi training when he' so convinced that they're completely different styles. It' like saying "Oh, well we have kick-boxing now so let's move away from boxing".

    C'mon now...

  • The gi is basically a sweat suit and it makes sense to train in one for a number of reasons. First off, it cuts down the skin to skin contact, I dont like sweating all over my partner and vice versa. Second, it simulates regular street clothing which is good if you train jiu jitsu with an emphasis on street self defense. But no gi is also good, people should do both if they can.

  • Eddie doesn't think that Gi training is useless, he just thinks no gi is more important for mma. he actually said gi training is most practical for the street

i personally love gi training because im not an mma fighter. i train in bjj, wrestling and striking, but i dont plan on competing. but i love the gi, because it allows your clothing or the opponent's clothing for very quick fight ending chokes

  • @TruNikkaz

that being said, i prefer to grapple no gi, because im not very strong not quite as good as the bigger guys in my class are, their grip keeps me from doing much. without the gi, i can actually stand a chance. and i feel it evens out a little more as far as size

  • No Gi all day

  • From my observation of both gi/no-gi, I can tell that gi requires you to be more technical and thinking critically about your next move. You depend on the leverage and movement of your opponent rather than muscle out of every position like alot of no-gi grapplers do. I like both and I think they are equally effective in their own right, which is why you should train both to make you well-rounded. No-gi is great for MMA because most guy don't wear gi in a fight these days, but great for training.

  • whats the move he done 1:08?

  • Hi all can some 1 tell me the move he does 1:09???

  • I love both.

But, I am starting to like no-gi better since bigger guys can't take a rest by holding on to me.

  • training exclusively no gi is just as effective as in gi. it;s just that since the art of bjj originated from the gi from a very long time ago, the no gi system is still fairly new and needs time to catch up. what eddies says is radical and not wrong. its a new system that is still evolving. its like a wikipedia database that is still growing.

  • Gi, no gi, i dont care jiujitsu is and always will be an amazing sport

  • Eddie's instructor Jean-Jacques Machado Trains with the gi. He's also a ADCC champ(Eddie is not).

  • @918Anon eddies not my favorite guy but he did bueat renzo in adcc

  • @wyattperrybjj First, it was Royler. Second, He got destroyed in the semis by Leo Viera, then dropped out of the third place match. His entire claim to fame is based on one match.

  • @918Anon he did not drop out the face place match he lost on points, get your fact straight and stop spreading bullshit

  • @poganla123 Yes, he did drop out of the 3rd place match. Do some fucking research, kid.

  • @918Anon lool at you calling me kid when im older than you

  • @poganla123 (1)this is the internet, you don't know how old people actually are. (2) You have the mentality of an eight-year-old girl.

  • @918Anon listen to this fucking idiot, HE is saying i have the mentality of an 8 year old girl for saying im older than he is when he calls me a kid without even knowing my age. stupid fuck

  • @poganla123 No, you're a fool for arguing with me without doing any research, first. Then, trying to change the subject now that you have figured out you were wrong.

  • Comment removed

  • @poganla123 LOL you weren't there. Eddie popped a rib against Leo and dropped out. Stop being buttmad and admit you are a faggot.

  • Comment removed

  • @poganla123 No, Royler replaced Eddie and beat Soca for 3rd. Royler placed higher than Eddie. u suck ballz

  • @918Anon lool you read mma/jiu jitsu forums 2 much!!! thats nonsense

  • @poganla123 I agree with the consensus view of history. Only Bravo nut-huggers refuse to admit their hero is the Buster Douglas of BJJ. Says his system is best for MMA, yet never fought in MMA.

  • @918Anon tell that to vinny maghalaes

  • @poganla123 You mean the guy who got KO'd right out of the UFC, then went to Russia to fight homeless drunks in fixed fights? That Vinny ?

  • @918Anon hehehe when vinny fought in tuf he was using his style of jiu jitsu whic was world class but not the best for mma, vinny realised this and started trainin 10th planet jiu jitsu now he's won like his last 8 matches

  • @poganla123 In Russia, against nobodies, with no Athletic Commission....

  • @918Anon dude i have nothing to do with no athletic commision, all i kno is that pezao has some of the best jiu jitsu ever, multiple time world champion, but yet he seeks 10th planet for mma jiu jitsu and so far he's being succesful in mma. all people like you can do is hate but the fact is even super high level jiu jitsu blackbelt like vinny seeks 10th planet for mma.

  • @poganla123 Vinny never won the worlds at Black Belt even once. He's lost almost all his fights in the US. Only wins fights against people in some promotion run by mafia in Russia.

  • @918Anon vinny won the no-gi worlds at blackbelt level in 2007.

  • @918Anon true my bad lol, still takes skill to beat a man like royler. but he is given way to much praise over that win

  • Just because 'X' is associated with 'Y' doesn't mean 'X' causes 'Y'. So in other words because all no gi champions wear the gi it doesn't mean that the gi makes them better at no gi. There may be other causes. For instance Marcelo Garcia started training BJJ when he was 12 and at 16 moved into a Jiu-Jitsu school and trained 4 times a day for years. Now was it the fact that he trained in the gi that made him great or was it his intense commitment to the sport? Don't really know.

  • pause at 0.03 lool

  • i try and train no gi even with a gi on (using limbs and hooks vs. grabbing cloth) because its just more real life practical.

  • hmmm i am a grappler and i do think that whether it is no gi or with gi as long as you are comfortable to it then that is good for you.. because I know somebody who is really good with his Gi on.. but without gi.. he have a terrible time defending kimura for an example because he cant "hold" his Gi for defending because it is a grappling tournament.. but yes.. its up to you.. both are good

  • I'll X-choke the shit out of some frat fuck wearing a Polo!

  • I done no gi for 18 months and have been doing Gi BJJ for the last 2 months and I must say I have developed a better sense of leverage and not always using my strength to muscle into positions, I just flow with my opponent. I have noticed the difference when i roll with people in my mma gym, rolls with them consist of power and speed where at my BJJ gym (GI) rolls are more of a thinking game because mistakes cost can quickly turn into you getting submitted..both styles compliment each other

  • im nervous about joining an mma gym that is by my house. i really love bjj and i love to grapple i just get nervous. any advice?

  • @561sage we have been there my friend, are you looking to do mma or just bjj, if its just bjj then there is nothing to worry about, you might get tapped out a couple of times in ur first class but dont get frustrated it happened to EVERYONE, just stay calm and try to learn as much as possible. if ur looking to do mma try to go easy and try to avoid injuries, im not too experienced in mma so seek out further advice

  • @poganla123 thanks dude, yea im just doing BJJ, im going this week to talk to the instructer. should i wear a cup? if so, which one works best?

  • @561sage loool no, u dont need a cup, u could wear some mouth piece and ear guards if you want, i personally dont use them :)

  • @poganla123 becuz one time i tried putting my friend in an armbar but his arm pinched my balls. my friend said its becuz i didnt do it right, is that true?

  • @561sage yh i think so, u shuldnt feel any discomfort while applying an arm bar

  • @poganla123 ok thanks dude

  • @poganla123 one more question. i walked into american top team today and i just can't afford it. but there is a brazilian top team that is alot cheaper its just not taught by a world champion in bjj. i would rather train with a world champ but i cant afford it. my question is, how do i know if this guy is certified? cuz he has a 3rd degree black belt under some guy who was in the carlson gracie team. how do i know if this guy is legit. american top team is 125 and brazil top team is 65 a month.

  • @561sage erm brazilian top team was created by mariio bustamante and ricardo loborio (the creator of american top team) marilio is a world champion, multiple time brazil national champion and a silver medalist at adcc (the most prestigious) so he is very certified. brazilian top team also have high level bjj guys like rousimar palhares so its an awesome gym. american top team is more expensive because they have better facilities for mma but for just bjj brazilian top team is seriously legit

  • @poganla123 yea your right, thanks alot dude and yea im gonna check out brazilian top team.

  • @561sage cool, train hard and good luck

  • Gee/Gi means something totally different in my Country. I love Gee, No-Gee can go fuck itself... wait it can't, that's why it needs my Peeee....nis. :P

  • Unless you get into a fight on the beach, the gi provides more realistic training in that it emulates normal, every day clothing.

  • I like Eddie but the pants are part of the Gi

  • @fwsec

you cant grab the pants in his class xD

  • BOF! (both)

  • I train in and enjoy both gi and no gi equally. Which is more practical for self defence is irrelevent to me. Shit's fun either way.

  • I agree with Bravo no gi is the practical evolution of jiu jitsu not just in cage fighting but in self defense. Seriously who the fuck wears jackets that are designed to retard movement.

  • I know I am going to be the odd one out here but I actually prefer the Gi. It to me is more of a Chess Game and provides me with a great arsenal when I practice Judo as well.

  • no gi is more practical

  • @arama0010 Why is it more practical? It makes me laugh when people act like getting attacked in the street will result in a one on one ground fight with a slick submission grappler. That's just fantasy land straight away not to mention that depending on where you live and what time of year it is people wear more or less clothing that the Gi could be considered more realistic. MMA? Most "good" JiuJitsu fighters came from a Gi background. More practical? Less practical? Who cares it's all JiuJitsu

  • @Rapist87 Well more 'practical' in my sense is I practice JiuJitsu in whatever clothes I have on, usually boardies and t shirt. Choking out with a Gi on is a competition thing, traditional way of a practioner. Like Jiujitsu, when also practicing Judo, I use no Gi with whatever clothes I have on. Where I come from, everyone needs good standup striking as Muay Thai/ Kick Boxing and Boxing are very common, however most of the time, if not every time, all fights land on the ground.

  • @arama0010 Where I live (and worked as a nightclub bouncer for several years) There is a large boxing/kickboxing culture and alot of people who get into fights are supposedly skilled fighters, however, with the almost certain inclusion of alchohol, multiple protagonists and an extremely unfair initiative very few fights resemble a boxing/mma style match fight. Real fights just don't. Also during the winter months alot of ppl wear heavy coats that make collar chokes practical.....

  • Respond to this video... and for MMA, well they pretty much only wear shorts, so no gi is is obviously better suited to it, isn't it? I am aware of most MMA fighters coming from a gi background, I am aware it is a culture, an attitude, so it isn;t going to change, and probably shouldn;t anyway, I just believe for a non competing follower of Martial Arts, it is the most practical to learn in whatever you want. No gi, gi or casual clothing. A gi doesnt make the fighter, so it doesnt mata

  • @arama0010 ...and although it is true that alot of fights end up going to the ground that rarely results in anything other than one of the guys getting kicked to bits by the other guys buddies or both of them being split up and pulled apart, and rightly so. BJJ is an incredible art, I love it and am a long term practitioner (around 8 years now) but in truth it is just not practical for REAL fighting, not because it isn't effective, but because you rarely have the luxury of facing just one guy...

  • @Rapist87I still find no Gi more practical, with all the scuffles Ive been particularly, JiuJitsu has worked tremendously, not to submit, but just dominating practical situations/ positions to protect myself at all costs. You gotta be a good striker these days, but JiuJitsu is very important skill to learn as you know. So still, no Gi to me is very practical, only I say no gi, really I mean whatever clothes you wear day to day.

  • I like to think of Gi as winter time clothing. No Gi, the rest of the time. Or as they are practicing no gi top with Gi pants would be like the typical shirt and blue jeans. We are talking a martial art, meant for defense agains an assailant. It's not just a competition thing. If you can choke a guy out without his collar, great. Even better if you have both options. I usually do class in a Gi, and roll no Gi. I'm getting better at both. Win, win.

  • What eddie seems to be overlooking here is the fact that No Gi Jiu Jitsu has been around for a long time. No Gi isn't new or revolutionary in anyway. It has been around for years. The only reason the Gi exists in the first place is because the traditional Japanese attire looked like a fucking Gi itself. Traditional Japanese close resembled the modern day Gi. So when they invented a lot of the martial arts disciplines, it was only logical to utilize the gi because that's what they wore anyway.

  • Doing BJJ period is good whether it is with the gi or no gi but the majority of No gi champions are all Gi users, they just train with no gi a month before the competition. I havent seen the first No gi guy win a Championship. Eddie Bravo is great but i would like to see him go against Marcelo Garcia, Jacare, Roger, or even his own coach Machado.

  • @sublime2744 Obviously he would lose to all those guys, they are the best in the world and Bravo is just famous for beating Royler and having a funky style.

  • @sublime2744 ur right man majority of the adcc winners come from and train in the gi, but what people are saying that i dont agree with is that the gi makes ur nogi game better thats an absolute lie, the people that train in the gi train in the gi because there are also going to compete in the mundials and other gi tournaments , i train at roger gracie academy in london and we train nogi every fridays, everyone complains how difficult it is going from gi to no gi.

  • @poganla123 i don't know if it does but it can't be a coincidence that the majority of adcc winners come from the gi.Even the best bjj fighters in mma come from the gi.They seem to pick it up much better. Look at maia, roger, bj penn, etc. But guys like joe lauzon who is a really good no gi grappler, but for some reason can't compete with the elite bjj guys in his division. Besides Eddie, who is a great grappler, what other no gi bjj guy has won a championship or dominated the bjj game in mma?none

  • @sublime2744 dude your gi game doesnt make your nogi game better. when roger was preparing for adcc in 2005 and the superfight in 2007 he trained nogi for 3 solid months non stop. if it really helped ur nogi games guys shud train in the gi for adcc. some people can go from no gi to gi and some cant. when last as maia submitted anyone and bj penn got dominated by fitch and george on the ground. jake shields has dominated the bjj game in mma

  • @poganla123 I agree but it's arguable. Watch Saulo Ribeiros interview and see what he thinks, he makes an interesting point. He feels that the gi is better because positions are slowed down and you get a better feeling for positions and timing and learning how to deal with other peoples weight and leverage, where as in no gi its much faster pace so you don't really pick up on that as well as gi guys.

  • @poganla123 Dude and as far as grappling goes penn dominated fitch, took his back twice and fitch didnt pass the guard. Plus fitch and Gsp train with the gi. Fitch under camarillo and Gsp now under renzo. Jake has great bjj though, although he almost got submitted by mayhem miller. But jake is very solid. I'm not saying No gi isn't good, like i said its all good as long as your doing something.

  • @sublime2744 yh but fitch trains no-gi way more than gi and so does bj penn. mayhem that almost subd jake trains no-gi as well. gsp trains with roger gracie with both the gi and nogi. i also train gi and nogi there both good and can both help your game but the mma fighters that train jiu jitsu train no-gi for their matches even roger gracie himself.

  • @sublime2744 the gi helps zero in mma period..

  • @sublime2744 Well I don't think there is a relation between Gi and skill.

  • MMA is no-gi

  • No gi is good, but i think gi is better because there is more techniques and it can take you further. If you notice, the best BJJ guys all are gi guys like Marcelo garcia, Roger Gracie, Jacare, Demian Maia, Aoki, Penn, etc. All these guys do well in gi tournaments and usually aways win the no gi tournaments as well. Eddie was an exception but even he is a black belt with the gi under Machado. I dont know the first No gi guy who has been a serious threat in mma.

  • No-Gi feels more "raw" to me; when training with a Gi, you can grab hold of lapels, belts, sleeves, and other things that would not normally be there in a real or MMA fight.

  • I train no-gi and havent trained with a gi but would love to give it a go

  • Also, people don't realise that the greatest difference between competitors who only do no-gi and the ones that do both, is that the second category has more tournaments under their belt. I mean, think about it. I guy goes to NAGA and another guy goes to both NAGA and the mundials, who is going to amass more tournament experience over time? The same thing applies on the school level, with guys that only attend no-gi classes and guys that attend both gi and no-gi classes.

  • People don't seem to get what Eddie is saying, they just hear "the gi sucks" and lash out in defense. What Eddie is saying is that they gi and no-gi are different animals. They have, of course very good caryover, but one shouldn't be a prequisite for the other. The wrestling vs judo example he used in one of his books is very good. What he is trying to do is discover the quirks of no-gi, without being restrained by the gi mentality.

  • did he forgot to say UFC?

  • if u train in mma do yous guys think you should train with or without gi any comments would be great

  • I train in no-gi and gi, which do i prefer?, i think they both have there advantages and disadvantages. But why pick 1 when there both great. The only thing about no-gi is its not reconised to the blind eye as its own sport, people just look at it as a part of mma but gi is reconised as its own sport to everyone.

  • ers are the BEST! Eddie had a bit of lucky with Royler and made his name on that. I would like to see he competing more against gi fighters, such as Marcelinho, Cobrinha, Mendes Brothers, Jacaré, Braulio etc etc .. Please, give me a break

  • Training without gi makes perfect sense to me. The gi is more robust than regular clothing, which makes it easier to perform locks and chokes. Plus, they absorb your opponent's sweat. The problem is that this presents unrealistic scenarios. How often will you get into a street fight with someone who's wearing a gi? Most likely never. It's better to train in the most realistic situations possible. Train with people who are wearing regular clothing.

  • In the streets a t-shirt will not help keep posture broken down with a collar grip or will you be able perform a collar choke.Could work with heavy jackets though.

  • I always hear the argument "look at the best no gi players, they also train gi" That's because the best no gi players have been training since before there was really a nogi community. To be truly fair you'd have to compare people that start at the same time. The only argument I have for the gi is that it allows you to do more competitons which in turn will make you better in competition than doing nothing at all.

  • Thanks for sharing, I like it.

  • Hopefully in my life time we will weed out the gi.

  • @dragonballjiujitsu Why? I much prefer doing no-gi myself but I also love training in the gi. I have a blast doing both! So many people love training in the gi for sport BJJ, so why weed it out? You're saying you'd want to just scrap the Mundials, Pan Ams, etc? Just completely do away with the gi? Why? Because YOU prefer no-gi? How selfish is that. That's like me saying I want to rid the world of McDonald's because I prefer BKing. Who the fuck am I to tell someone what to eat or where to train??

  • @WhtMike2006 Thats not what I'm saying at all. I think there should be two types of Jiu-jitsu schools. The ones who train for sport Jiu-jitsu and games and the other train for self defense and fighting. Let there be a clear line drawn for the person interested so they can take the one that suites their needs. As it stands now we have people who want to learn BJJ for self defense training at gi schools learning useless techniques.

  • @WhtMike2006 i compleatly agree you couldnt have said it better however i prefer no gi but i also dont have loads of experiance

  • Marcelo Garcia the p4p best no-gi grappler in the world says you wont be good in gi or no gi without trainig gi unless

  • @pconnors8 First off Marcelo Garcia doesn't "say you won't be good if" anything. He's not that type of guy. He doesn't force his ideas on other people. If you look at his current schedule, he trains about 60% gi and 40% no-gi. This makes so much sense if you want to be good at both. Do both roughly the same amount of time. There are much more gi events every year so training in the gi slightly more makes sense.

  • @WhtMike2006 Your right I probably quoted Marcelo way wrong but I still don't like how Eddie was refering to the gi as a super hero costume and both gi and no gi grappleing improve your over all game an equal amount

I go to a dojo that is 80% gi but I also wrestle so I see the value in both

  • @pconnors8 Absolutely. Simply dismissing it as a super hero costume is short sighted.

  • @pconnors8 GREAT POINT.. I only train No-Gi, (mostly because of time constraints), and never really trained GI at all.. And I know that all the best guys that I train with all train GI as well.. Bravo has definitely contributed to the JJ world no doubt, but to criticize the GI is just straight wrong and disrespectful. BOTTOM LINE A GI GUY WILL LAST A WHOLE LOT LONGER IN A NO-GI GUYS WORLD, THAN A NO-GI GUY WOULD LAST IN A GI GUY'S WORLD.. BELIEVE IT... IT'S ALL AROUND US.. And again, I'm No-Gi

  • Comment removed

  • @jiujitsu1980 Frank Mir is a Robert Drysdale product.

  • Okay, Okay lets stop with the sucking of dick, It's still all Jiu-Jitsu. I love trainning, watching, competing, everything, Gi, nogi, it's all good to me. Thier are still aggrogant people who look at jiu-jitsu, gi or nogi and call it gay, thier the ones WE should all have a problem with. The best Jiu-Jitsu fighters in the world still rock a gi, that a fact however Eddie Bravo is not overrated, I know he is a least a brown and may even be a black belt under JJ Machado, thats says somthing.

  • eddie bravo's win over royler ... is OVERATED

  • Yah Mon !! Eddie Bravo U da MAN !!

BIG UP n NUF RESPEK !!

    NEW SCHOOL SAMURAI !!

  • @jiujitsu1980

Really ? So Ricardo Pires Didnt Give Him His Black Belt ?

  • Thats The Gi....Thats Jiu Jitsu

  • that's funny eddie.. because every single Nogi champion at the black belt level trains in the gi on a regular basis. I guess marcelo garcia must suck at nogi, because he trains in the gi... oh wait he is the greatest who ever lived. lets talk mma? every single mma champion trains in the gi, gsp, black belt under renzo gi. anderson silva black belt gi. shogun, black belt gi. I see a fuckin trend. EDDIE IS NOT EVEN YOUR REAL NAME! AND YOU ARE A BLACK BELT IN THE GI!!! GOT DAMN IT EDDIE....

  • the rubber guard was invented in japan in the fedual time this guy is just discovering now!

  • GI FTW!

Bj penn,Damian Maia,Frank Mir,Jake Shields,Fabricio Verdum,GSP, are all top mma competitors and they all train gi!

Not to mention all the pure jiu jitsu guys that train gi!

  • @Daltonx317x BJ uses techniques from 10th planet JJ. I'm pretty sure they either used to train gi or train both. There's no way those guys train gi exclusively.

  • @Daltonx317x

I'm saddened everytime I see a black belt get crushed underneath somebody for every round of a fight. They look uncomfortable because they're used to holding onto collars and sleeves. Now and then they get lucky with a wild triangle or arm bar, but double wrist control isn't the best way to protect from punches or set up submissions from the guard.

  • @Daltonx317x And the gi did nothing to enhance their game. They all would be better off without the gi. It's archaic.

  • @mmtxaz Gi training is archaic? MMA is a sport that is set up to look like a fight. Who in the hell is going to jump me on the street looking like they are dressed for the cage. MMA has nothing to do with self defense. They don't get paid for being really good at defending themselves. The ref stands them up before the top guy gets tired of struggling to posture up. Return to no rules or time limits. Stop favoring the strikers for redneck fans who think they can "throw down".

  • @Pauly2Bags I see more people walking around in shorts than gis. And yes, MMA fighters are trained to defend themselves from punches, kicks, elbows, knees, takedowns, and submissions.

  • @mmtxaz What are you smoking that makes you think that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu doesn't train to defend strikes of all kinds, gi or no-gi? I like to compete in sport Jiu-jitsu as much as the next guy but let's not delude ourselves into thinking that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was designed purely for a grappling game. It's comments like this that prove that you have no real knowledge of what BJJ is really all about.

  • @Pauly2Bags I have extensive knowledge of BJJ. The gi makes you better at competing in the gi and that is all it does.

  • @Daltonx317x Jake Shields claims he didn't train in a gi in an interview recently.. i was shocked to hear him say that yet he is a black belt under C Gracie

  • I train at a gi school. Their primary argument for the gi is that it teaches you to escape submissions better with more technique, because if you're fighting no-gi and you're sweaty, you can slip right out of submission holds. Of course, one could turn that argument around and say that no-gi schools are better because you learn to hold submission better because you're having to hit a triangle or armbar when you're sweaty. I'm sure they both have their ups and downs.

  • @odessaboy that arguement is funny lol

  • @odessaboy i train both....that seems logical, i can't understand why everyone isn't doing this?

  • @odessaboy

Couldn't agree more. We train both gi and no-gi depending on what we are working on. If someone has a fight coming up, we tend to spend a week or so no-gi. However, during our off weeks we grapple with a gi, and I can tell you from experience, movement is so much easier without the gi on.

  • @odessaboy another reason to train gi is that in the case of being attacked in the street or at a bar, your attackers will have clothing on and having the knowledge of clothing manipulation helps a great deal. Imagine a Gi choke with a zipper hoodie...it may not be as tight but shit that would hurt

  • @odessaboy on the street you have no gi. BJJ (as both Royce and Rickson Gracie stated) was about street defense, the little against the bigger and stronger guy.. I would say, practice them both, but focus on no gi.

  • @odessaboy

The Gi slows the game down and makes it more technical. Guys with a lot of strength and little skill are more likely to win NoGi than Gi. I like Eddie and a lot of his concepts, but I've also watched plenty of 10th Planet guys and some of them even go to Gi tournaments. A lot of this Gi vs NoGi beef shit is purely business and nothing else.

  • I train at a gi school. Their primary argument for the gi is that it teaches you to escape submissions better with more technique, because if you're fighting no-gi and you're sweaty, you can slip right out of submission holds. Of course, one could turn that argument around and say that gi schools are better because you learn to hold submission better because you're having to hit a triangle or armbar when you're sweaty. I'm sure they both have their ups and downs.

  • @31stmeu1 What happened to no name calling? You were all sensitive before now you're a tough guy. LOL

  • @31stmeu1 Yet again you open your moth before thinking. The first post you responded to I clearly said I dig Eddie Bravo. I'm watching a Bravo video guy. You should read before commenting. What does being an elitest have to do with anything? You make no sense.

  • @31stmeu1 I call a spade a spade and like I said the argument wasn't about mma it was pertaining to self defense. As far as the gyms you mentioned I cant' think of to many top level bjj guys come out of those camps. They may have good bjj for mma but I wouldn't consider them on the level of Jacare. Roger, Galvao, Garcia, Penn, Aoki all guys that started with and still train with the gi. If the gi is good enough for those guys I'm pretty sure the gi is still useful

  • @31stmeu1 When was the last time you were informed before opening your mouth? I didn't say anything about mma, but since you bring it up look at how many of the top bjj guys in mma started with and still train with the gi. Bjj is bjj. It's easier to transition to no-gi than vice versa

  • bringing jiu jitsu back?

jiu jitsu been around since 1500, what a egnorant guy.

his amazing at what he does but shit dude his in his own world

  • Why do morons keep insisting that no gi is more practical than gi? Where do these guys live where ppl never where coats, jackets or pants? What bars, clubs are thes ppl hanging out where guys are fighting in spandex shorts?! WTF ppl! The idea that you won't have anything to hold onto in the street is ridiculous. Forget fancy lapel chokes you can just pull a guys shirt over his head hockey style and tee off. I dig Bravo but this whole argument he keeps fueling is retarded.

  • @tuopvm You are retarded! No-gi is better for MMA, no1 cares about some silly bar fight.

  • @appppppa LMAO! The Gracies must be retarded to because they're all about bjj as self defense. All the top bjj guys in mma that train with a gi must be mental also. Fail Eddie bravo nuthugger guy.

  • @tuopvm Still all the top bjj guys that fight in MMA trains without the G before a fight just as Eddie said. And 10thplanet system is still better to train if ur gonna do MMA.

  • @appppppa Ppl like you are morons.I dig all bjj and Eddie Bravo, Isaid so in my post stupid. But if u want to compare resumes it's Gracie style, gi bjj by a landslide. Who from Eddie Bravo's system has one anything and that's including Eddie? Like said tho I dig Bravo

  • @tuopvm Eddie tapped Royler Gracie in 2003 at the Mundials...

  • @metalmankeith I know this. He didn't win the tournament though either. That's my point. Tapping a Gracie is his biggest accomplishment.

  • @metalmankeith it was 2003 ADCC not Mundials

  • @bjjartist Correct you are. My bad

  • @metalmankeith AND EDDIE GOT KILLED IN THE NEXT FIGHT...IF HE FIGHT ROYLER THAT WONT HAPPEN AGAIN...

  • @2submit Eddie challenged him to a rematch. No dice

  • @metalmankeith ADCC World Submission Wrestling Championships: * ADCC record (13 wins -1 loss) * 2001 ADCC - Under 66KG: Gold * 2000 ADCC - Under 66KG: Gold

CBJJ World Championships: * 1999 Black Belt Pena: 1st Place * 1998 Black Belt Pena: 1st Place * 1997 Black Belt Pena: 1st Place, Black Belt Absolute: 3rd Place * 1996 Black Belt Pena: 1st Place

CBJJ Pan American Championships: * 1999 Black Belt Pena: 1st Place

     * 1997 Black Belt Pena: 1st Place

  • @2submit Bro I'm just stating facts. The fact is that Eddie beat Royler, and Eddie has since challenged him to a rematch to no avail. I'm not trying to say that Eddie's better, that's just facts. Personally I'd like to see a rematch to see what happens. I think both Gracie and 10th planet have great ideas. Eddie's just trying different things and that makes it interesting to a lot of people, myself included. I train at a Renzo Gracie achoool right now but I would love to try 10pjj one day.

  • @metalmankeith okay bro ...

  • @CNoble87 nope your idol is overrated and you know it ...

  • @CNoble87 and he got raped by leo veira. so u can suck on that. eddie bravo is way overated. hasn't produced any phenomenal guys and he isn't phenomenal himself. plus gi guys always rape pure no-gi guys. evidence is all around u.

  • @CNoble87 I have no dog in this fight, but to be fair, you cannot use Jake Shields as your sole example. He's a natural and a phenom at grappling. The gi vs no-gi argument is stupid and frankly outdated. Do both! You can compete more, and they both complement each other in many ways. All the top guys in the world right now do both. There is so much inherent value in doing both, and neglecting either one is stupid if you want to reach your full potential in Jiu-Jitsu/grappling.

  • yeh but there arent any freakin no gi schools.. and i live in sac where theres a certain type of martial arts school on every block

  • Eddie who? He has zero world champion titles. He has zero pan am titles. He didnt even place in the ADCC he is infamous for.

Lets see what the worlds best no-gi grappler says on this, instead of a guy who is all talk with a comp record that pales in comparison.

" Its CRUCIAL to train with the GI to have the finest technique." - Marcelo Garcia

Oh, and take the GI pants off. You are only half no-gi. The no-gi comps are DOMINATED by GI grapplers. This myth has been shattered.

  • I totally agree with him. No GI is the way to go!!!!! For example, lets say a guy tackles you in a street fight and he's way stronger than you, that guy is going to try and kill you he's going to be in rage mode going 100 miles per hour and you are on your back, you cant look to grab his clothes, you have to know how to scramble and pull off a quick move or get back on your feet and fight or run, whatever you like to do. Nature never gave humans a GI, you cant walk with a GI on all the time.

  • @5grkted what about jackets? shirts? tshirts? scarfs? pants??? doesnt that simulate gi techniques as well?? youre opinion is half valid. not saying u are totally wrong... but u are far from the right ...
