1. They also make a living by *not killing themselves* drinking & driving. Protecting his prospects wouldn't be a issue otherwise.
2. All paramedics are trained to insert the tube that goes down your throat when you have difficulties breathing. The other way to get air in your lungs which bypasses the vocal chords etc involves thrusting a tube *through your flesh* - not a first recourse.
