  • Amazing track, off an amazing album..

    Thanks for the up :)

  • How modern you are my daugther...

  • Que moderna eres hija mia...

  • wank

  • remember being at the camden palace when this was filmed for the Tube

  • yes its gay! I was dancing to this in leather bars when most you were still trying to figure out if you were gay or if boys really did do it better!

  • @lisaslist2011 wow //well done you knobhead

  • steve strange and rusty egan at their best. don't know who the girl is, but wow!! LOVE THE BINDI

  • Sounds like playback

  • Steve Strange Rules .......

  • Visage, what can you say great for their time!!!

  • Steve S.: Horrible ppl meet horrible fates....theguy was never an intellect

  • Love all Visage music and what else was huge during that scene,,,,,but i don't feel bad that Steve Strange is border line PATHETIC because I bet he was such an asshole during his popular days...whereas, robert smith and dave gahan are still going, bc they are good guys and taltented forever.....Love Visage...but they were just a bunch of pathetic fucking junkies.....fuck them...they deserve their braindead way of life.....Viva The Cure, Depeche, Echo and the Bunnymen, Moz, etc

  • @MarkBade Hey man, who was not a junkie in these days? I don’t if you know that Dave Gahan was close to death due to drugs in the late 90’s, he was probably more junky than Steve Strange or maybe not; does it really matter? The main thing is they were great artists from another times; artists took many drugs but they had to give them up if they want to keep on living!!

  • @1967nj Good spot. I believe there was a bit of "controversy" over this when it was shown (it is DEFINITELY mimed). I even recall some gig where the play back tape they were miming to failed and caught them out! Still, doesn't deter from what is probably their best track. Good to see Billy, Rusty and Midge too (sorry, khorrumg, but it's not John McGeoch - he didn't even play on the Anvil album)

  • is that Billy Currie on keyboards?

  • Rusty Egan...Billy Currie...the late great John McGeogoch

  • This was proto type industrial if you ask me, especially the German version. Love love love that screeching guitar which I am guessing was Midge Ure as it's very Ultravoxy.

  • Who is that blonde bombshell backing Steve Strange on vocals? She is hot! I had no idea this was also sung in german. Very hot!

  • @lambchopsf that is Lowri Ann Richards ala Shock & Pleasure and the Beast.....and yes she is HOT!!!

  • @lambchopsf The Deutsche version is called Der Amboss and is on the new Face compilation

  • Strange is "strange": He already looks as the german jazz entertainer Helge Schneider...hehe. Does he? IS he?

  • Midge Ure is the guitarist in this video. This was right around the time he was Thin Lizzy's touring guitar player, as you can tell from his image. looks nothing like he later would look in Ultravox. Billie Currie is one of the keyboard players here as well.

  • im obcessed with this guy,hes brilliant.nobody gives him the credit he deserves.yes he did hav problems with drugs, well who hasnt?he is a god........

  • Die Frisur... Hihi. Und der Bart... mein Gott, Mr Strange, was haben Sie sich denn hier gedacht?

  • Hot in such a weird way.

  • Wow this is a cool performance.

Didn't know bands were allowed to mime on The Tube though!

  • This is one of my favourites, fuck I LOVE IT! this attitude, sound, everything!!

  • Miss the 80s, nobody gave a crap or took themselves seriously, you dressed up like the biggest Pratt, went out and had a good time. Now everyone's a fucking clone and music is shite.

  • Amazing song! Love it.

  • I still have the vinyl records!

  • Yeah, its because, this is quality music, unlike the half-assed crap that comes out to today.

  • there's a reason nobody listens to this anymore...

  • I love this track to death...even more than fade to grey. Sounds like Midge on guitar

  • best ever Visage track - when The Anvil album (heh!... as it was called) came out I was working in Our Price - couldn't stop me putting this on the deck... the segue between Damned Don't Cry and this track is superb. Not seen this (ahem) live performance before - great post

  • Night Club Schooll!!!!!

  • LOve it love love it

Yeah what has happened to music these days?? so boring boring boring thank god for lady gaga

  • Wow. Die Krupps version is so much better.

  • camden palace early 80,s ahhh the memories freaks everywhere

  • love this track and clip

how funky does he look wit dat hair do, i love it

  • A-W-E-S-O-M-E

what a great video.... thanx for upload.

  • A track frm The Anvil but not as good as damned Dont Cry....

  • @LiteracyLabyrinth noooooooooooooooooooo this is SO much more solid! I think this is one of the best tracks ever from that phase of electronic music. You are, of course, entitled to your opinion... ,-)

  • cool! Have the album too :)

  • Love the trumpets and snare drum! And the backing vocals are bucking.

    :)

  • I've only got one Visage album and it happens to be "The Anvil". Haven't heard this for yonks!

  • Rusty Egan was still on keyboards, i thought Ultravox was also with them

  • Rusty's the drummer, so he's doing a great job of faking it!

Loving Steve's Rayban Wayfarer 5022 sunglasses. Vintage!

  • @TrainmasterCurt Billy Currie was away from Ultravox and with Visage temporarily as John Foxx had just gone solo. He also was a part of Tubeway Army with Gary Numan briefly before returning to Ultravox when Midge Ure came on board to fill in Foxx's place. Rusty Egan was the percussion programmer for Visage

  • Great song!

  • How cud he prefer cock wit that standing next to him!

  • He also likes pussy so maybe he had her later, still I don't care either way as I think Steve Strange is cool

  • Cool for a tatty basher

  • Well said man. Who gives a shit, right? Back in the 80's nobody gave a monkeys, a good song was a good song. Hell, half of my record collection is homosexual!

  • Well said.

    xsx

  • @death2hiphopnRnB Oddly enough, I was having a chat with a bloke last night about some of the tracks he likes. They were all Homosexuals! Who gives one! Who cares how many legs you have? One eye? 19 stomachs? If you make good music, who cares? One of my black friends used to have 2 piles of vinyl- black & red neck......WTF? Who cares, just enjoy! I am not gay, but I am disabled! Thank God I'm normal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!

  • @martynpank I don't get it, people are saying this looks gay or something? What's so gay about it? It just seems dark/futuristic to me. Is it only because the decade and the "New Romantic" associations?

  • @xreddragonx I don't understand why you have singled me out? I'm not homophobic! It's true that the music came from the 'Gay' scene in the late 70's, early 80's. But the New Romantics took bands like Visage, into the Main-stream. As I mentioned before, I could not care if you have 15 heads! If you make good music, I will buy it!

  • @martynpank What do you mean "single you out"? Yours just happened to be the most recent post mentioning the gay topic, so it's where I hit reply. I wasn't having a go at you at all. I was just simply wondering, aloud(typing-wise), what people find "gay" about the clip. Or whether they are talking specifically about the video clip being gay, or talking about New Romantics in general (for the record some of them were hetero).

  • @xreddragonx Some people are very quick to label! I think some people label it as, like I said, the background is from the gay scene! .........But then, how many people sing along to 'Relax' By 'FGTH'? Hey, it's all music to me! LOL! ........& you wouldn't beleive some of the 'Shit' that I like!!! LOL, Again! Take care, Bud!

  • @death2hiphopnRnB if this is homosexual...the new stuff makes this sound absolutely straight lol.

  • @death2hiphopnRnB Are you really sure that S Strange is gay? In my opinion, he must be something like Bowie. He played with bisexuality while he has likely fucked hundreds of different girls; this is the Bowie’s mark. He must have fucked with the mysterious and extremely sophisticated 80’s girl on back vocals!!

  • @chookter1 He's bi

  • Yeh, girls love that dont they! Lol!!!!!!

  • wow, was`nt aware of this version. The great Visage, timeless as it still sounds so good.

  • Great STEVE..love this fantastic man!

  • miming again,,booooooooo

  • Ugh, I love Steve so much but, I dont love how he's lipsynching right now :(

  • But just about every band on that show was instructed to mime. That's just how it was, same with on TOTP. I don't know why, and it's not the band's fault, but that's just how it is...

  • I know that's how it WAS. I would have to say it's both the network and the bands fault. Network for thinking it was a good idea, and band for agreeing to do it. I play in a band that is by no means "anywhere" yet but we've made some ground .. I assure you i would never agree to do a miming gig, no matter how much exposure it would bring.

  • Bloody hell - I was there that night!!

  • really!?!

  • really grantha you were bloody lucky, not like me in those times yes not allowed out grrrrrr

  • Visage forever!!!!!!!!!

  • The Die Krupps with Client version are pretty cool but this is a masterpiece :-)

  • i can see rusty and billy but no midge, i guess that was dave on lead but i thought he was a bassest. i think visage were a free for all with pretty boy steve at the front. great times

  • @TheGodParticle I thought Dave Formula was on synths, not sure who it is on lead in the vid but Midge played it on the album. Anyway, whoever he is, he doesn't "mime" the lead parts very well either... Midge played lead I think cos John McGeoch wasn't able to play on this album. The lead guitar is great on this track, credit to Midge.

  • i do love this band! maybe too much =D

    sick song! =) x

  • The funny version with German lyrics, please!

  • Yes the Anvil Song

  • Steve looked a bit like gary numan in that video

  • Yeah he tried to but was never that cool lol!

  • fucking great song!

so disco, but yet evry electronic

  • Just remember-the "hot woman" is now about 50 and probably has more hair on her back than you do. Lol.

  • wheres midge?

  • who is th fukin hot woman

  • gr8 song nice leather jacket whos the woman she is so sexy

  • he looks so evil

  • New wave at his baddest ass!

  • I really love the "Die Krupps" cover of this song called Der Amboss of course the original is awesome too

  • Thank you for posting this! It reminds me to buy a usb-turntable and dust off my vast vinyl catalogue. Visage is a CLASSIC.

  • Remind me, was it heroin or cream cakes he was addicted to?

  • Probably both. Both the smackheads I've had the pleasure of knowing shovelled cakes into their faces like there was no tomorrow.

  • very nice!!

  • he has the hair like gustavo cerati,,from SODA STEREO,,,XD

    con cariño desde mexico,,

    luiz,,,

  • This is the first Visage video I've seen where Steve looks oddly like a mix of John Belushi and Charlie Sheen.

  • those are some tight pants steve!

  • SAT9terminus your rage is felt, but do you have to crack the whip so dmaned hard on us?!

I am not sure if your ready for the coach, but I'm not sure whether I want you in a room alone, you could lounge at me with some knife or projectile!

  • cuantos años ,,aun tengo el vinilo de visage ,,, siempre me emociono al ver estos videos de strange ,que pena que no haga mas trajos ,, siempre un saludo gracias strange bye

  • whew... sounds like playback, but then they do this German interlude... strange!

I could bet it's 100% playback, simply sounds too well mixed.

  • it was playback, not sung live at all just mimed.

i was at the camden palace when this was recorded for 'the tube' back in the early 80's.

  • but you're just 17 old years ...Camden Palace was just opened after the Blitz club...

  • You can't beat music like this!

  • I fucken love this. This is what music is supposed to sound like in the future. the dark, bleak future.

  • It sounds like a track from today.

    I love it!

  • One day I WILL do a cover of this, its so cool

  • Awesome classic stuff!!!

  • Steve Strange is the twin of my sisters boyfriend of 8 years that killed himself a couple months ago.. he loved the 80's more than anyone i have ever known besides myself maybe and my girlfriend.. his name was also Steve.. its so STRANGE.. haha.. i cry watching these videos

  • steve strange ti amo

  • Top banana. Excellent. First live Visage recording I've seen - nice one! The only other I know is when they played at the Montreaux Rock Festival in 82 - has anyone got a recording of that??

  • Many will wait...maybe their twisting traps somehow will make the trick and the final cut of their life. Just because.

Maybe our Father's Hammer will slam a final blow..a verdict that shall ring for all to hear. Better get it right, or die, and hear.

Cooler header when the Anvil gets STRUCK hard.

  • Harter und schneller... that's terrific, i never noticed that German bit on the LP!! Perhaps there wasn't any :)

  • No vikingecske its on the German 12 inch Der Ambose

  • sound like a pre-industrial song.

good sound, very very very good

  • That's what I thought too.

  • cool 80's

  • Omg! That was performed at the Camden Palace in the early 80s.. and I was there watching that!! lol !!

  • please post (if it's possible) the deutsh version DER AMBOSS !!!!

  • I have just posted "Der Amboss".

  • Thank you for this. I've heard the song on internet radio, and now I get to see what the lead singer actually looks like. He doesn't have much of a stage presence though. He just stands there. It takes of charisma to be successful in the music business, just ask Gahan from Depeche Mode, he would know. Maybe that's why Visage aren't together now, who knows. The song is still cool though, I will add it to my favorites.

  • Visage was basically a studio band that came together from various bands and turned out several huge club hits ... long vesions and remixes were great .. very few live performances but nobody cared when you had 6-7 min versions of their music to dance to!

    Cheers

  • Did Visage EVER play a live gig? with the likes of Egan, Ure, McGeogh ?

  • Alledgely,NEVER.

  • Yes they did - at the Montreaux Rock Festival in 82 - never seen or heard a recording though

  • kink boy

  • yeh he was a bit of a poser but the big H got the better of him to much of that stuff turned his brain to mush

  • The most beautiful manlips ever! I also have a very rare record/cd collection of Visage that I've just ripped, and I'm crying. I'm so missing Steve. Greatest band ever!

  • sooo awesome! although the German version "Der Amboss" is much cooler...someone please upload it! :)

  • I love Visage then, still love them now. was an new romantic, now an old romantic, Does anybody know if they have new cds out! Last cd I bought by Visage 1984 Beat Boy. This video is cool as is Mr. Steve Strange.

  • you can buy complilation cd's from HMV or amazon.

  • This is Cyberpunk!

  • AMAZING! I love it! Thank you!

  • i was there at the camden papalce when this was recorded for 'the tube'. fan club members were invited to see visage perform 'live' for a couple of songs

  • Harter und schneller

    Schulter an Schulter

    Heiß und Schweiß

    Magisch schlagen die Trommeln.

  • my all time fav visage where did u find this ?

  • Wow....! I believe that is Billy Currie from Ultravox onstage with them! My favorite synth player of all time, great song!

  • Yes, it's Billy! I struggled to spot him but, yes, he's there, and what a musician he is. Not just Ultravox, either, as if that wasn't enough. His solo CDs are amazing, too. Try "Transportation" and "Push". Great stuff!

  • fuckin COOL ass mutha fuckers..........damit

  • Has anyone the German version of this?

  • Yeah me

  • Then share it! Upload it! Heis und sweis in der nactclub shool!

  • Only the song not the video eFloodwater otherwise it would be here like yesterday

  • Gr8 nice get together with Uvox & skids .The Chick's cool too - What was she singing at the end -sannek weiss ober schenkels?

  • oh my god the Anvil brilliant
