Thank you. This video's a little old but I actually prefer using traditional now over matched. After watching Donati and Lang, I was very inspired to change my style.
Great Drumming.. Why are you replacing your ZXT China? i bought one a couple of weeks ago, and i was thinking of replacing i but i ended up keeping it... its just seemed to sound alot better in the store..
My basement echoes a lot when I play, so the headphones sustain the sound.
Plus, if you have your drums tuned right, and you have those phones on, your drums sound as if they're being mic'd. I know it sounds nuts, but it's true.
it reduces the intensity of the high frequencies, so it sounds as if your drums are being naturally equalised (the bass tones come up more and the bad ringing becomes less).
note: you still get hearing damage done at low frequencies, only high frequencies are being safely reduced in volume :)
Bigbossmatt, its true that the headphones will only reduce the higher frequencies, but these are the most likely frequencies to damages your hearing, seeing as how the the lower frequencies in your ears are picked up by bigger, stronger hairs and are less likely to take damage.
fair enough. but at the end of the day they are still able to be damaged. it all comes down to how long you expose yourself to loud volumes, how loud the volume is, and how often you expose yourself.
take care of your ears! get personally made earplugs. so worth it
Try this, practice slow to fast sticking parterns obvious RR LL RR LL etc. Force each hit out with your wrists, make sure you're playing evenly and slowly pick up your speed. This will take a while, but eventually you'll have A) even rolls B) the ability to play at fast tempos.
Make sure you also use more bounce at higher speeds (obviously). But if you can force out the double strokes at slow and moderate tempos, fast tempos will be a breeze
Yes, VERY big fan. Danny Carey did inspire me GREATLY. I've been a fan since I was 5 to be honest. My brother introduced me to the band and I was hooked from then on.
Hey, I love your style, very nice. I have the Chad Smith snare also, love it. Does changing the reso head make the drums sound much better? Because I have an export also, and i'm looking to improve the sound as much as possible (still have the reso factory heads)
Thank you, and what sound are you trying to get? If you want dryer overtones, get a thicker resonant, and if you want higher overtones, thinner resonant head. But honestly, the stock head that comes with it sound great to me if you tune it just right. I believe it's an Ambassador
I have some below but, if you're looking a really warm and powerful snare, this is the one for you. I tune this high because I love that sort of "funky" snare sound. (but it's not too high in this video). But I have a more indepth analysis in past comments, check those out.
piaste makes great cymbals i have the signatures! the best sounding and the most expensive! you get what you paid for1 so 4000 dollars for hats i say that sounds pretty good!
I actually use to have Paiste cymbals. They have a great rich sound.
But between Zildjian and Paiste, I chose Zildjian because I like the way the K's and A Custom's sound. But, like you said, the signatures are great so I was thinking about mixing both types within my set honestly.
It has held up very well for me. Personally, I think it's the best metal snare Pearl has to offer for the price.
It's naturally dry, although if you tune the reso and batter head jussst right, it'll give a nice amount of sustain, which, I like.
But, the one thing this snare is notorious for, which is possibly the greatest thing about it, is that it cuts through ANYTHING. You want certain hits to go through the band, this snare can do it. Plus, you can play beautiful ghost notes with it.
Are those stock heads or bigger names like Aquarian, Evans, or Remo?
If you think your sticks are the problem, keep a close watch on your sticks especially if they're wood tips. Typically, the wood will sort of shatter at the tip and you'll be left with indentations in the wood, which will lead to indentations in the heads.
Or, you may need thicker heads or possibly not play as hard. I used to play hard, once you start practicing more, you'll gain control and all will be well.
thanks for the tip...i use a lot of remo heads at the moment i have a two remo heads my snare and my rack tom and on my old kit i had all remo and well ya i practice a lot ive been playing for like two plus years and well i think that its prob my sticks so im gonna get new ones soon and once again thanks for the tips
i'd definatly go for the fast crash. the projection could drown out and overwash your sound. its personal prefrence of course, but i have the 16" and 18" fast crashes and they work really well together. your a great drummer. make the most of your sound. hope this helps.
I'm actually going to try something pretty random, I want to get a 16 and 18" K Custom Session Crash. I like to ride on my crashes and get a lot of sustain out of them so I think I'll go with them.
Plus, I like to have some bright and dark sounds. The Sessions I'm looking at have a perfect amount of decay so, I'm edging toward them.
try out the K custom hybrid ride too. soon as i tried my mates out i had to get one. lovely crash to it, and being a hybrid you get the best of both K and A sounds!
Hey, thanks, but everything I do is based of basic rudiments. My biggest trick, mimicing the great, Chambers, Weckl, Lang, Carey, Donati, Smith, Colaiuta, DeGrasso and Gadd.
But don't limit yourself, watch MANY solos, mimic what you see, but most of all, make sure when you play your solos and really anything you do while drumming, you have COMPLETE control of. Everything I do, I make sure happens the way I want it to.
Sometimes, practicing something REALLY slow for some time helps (hint)
There are Remo Emperor, Ambassador and Diplomat batter heads. They also offer Emperor, Ambassador and Diplomat Snare Side heads which are really thin.
In my opinion, best metal snare. Cuts like a mother, plays BEAUTIFUL ghost notes and has the best high overtones (if you tune just right). Plus, it looks sweet. lol

You drum great!
But maybe it's the recording or is the tuning of your set a little odd?
It sounded like the theme from The Flintstones.
The snare could have been tweeked higher, and the toms lower, idk, probably just the recording.
But you def play well!!!

@fngarett Yeah, the recording isn't that great. It was done with a crappy camera because it was all I had at the time. Thanks.

Throw away over 300 years of hard work? Nah, I'll keep them.
Plus, Sabian was founded by one of the Zildjian's, Robert. So really, you're still going to get that turkish feel inside of them.
Sabians a great company, but I'll still with stuff Chambers, Colaiuta, Roach, and Beauford play.

There are Remo Emperor, Ambassador and Diplomat batter heads. They also offer Emperor, Ambassador and Diplomat Snare Side heads which are really thin.
