@SonOfAWhisker No, they are not. The only unit that is confirmed as using it in large numbers is CAG. Maybe some are in ASWG, maybe some are in ISA maybe DEVGRU, who knows. Delta is the only one that is confirmed (as much as you can confirm anything with them) as using it. The Special Forces, SEALs, Rangers, ect are using the M4A1 SOPMOD Block II. This is not subject to change, the 416 doesn't really add much over the M4A1 unless you're shooting suppressed often or always.

@SonOfAWhisker The Mk 16 (SCAR-L) has not replaced the M4A1 in the SEAL teams or the Ranger Regiment. In fact, USSOCOM has stopped buying the SCAR-L except to replace weapons that have been broken or damaged in the field. The M4A1 SOPMOD Block II is what the Special Forces, SEAL Teams, and the Ranger Regiment use. So many guns have been speculated to have killed bin Laden. It was probably either a 10" 416 or a Mk 18 CQBR.

@SonOfAWhisker I'd say the SCAR would be the one to get. The HK 416 is having some problems in Norwegian service, there SOF units chose to stick with the C8 (licensed-built M4A1). The only real issue with the SCAR is the stock, it tends to break. That's nothing that can't be easily rectified. About the only maintenance an M4 requires is oil. Unfortunately, the Marines and in particular the Army have this backassward idea that battle implements must be white glove clean.

It also happens on just about any other gun, but it's a big problem on a 416 (or other gas piston AR) where you have to remove the handguard to break the piston loose. Any other gun, you'd simply rack the charging handle with authority (or slam it against a heavy object). That's why it's a serious problem.

@SonOfAWhisker Also, from a purely technical standpoint, the SCAR is a better design. Gas piston ARs can be very good weapons, I've shot both the HK MR556A1 and the LWRC M6A2. I definitely liked the LWRC better, weight was more in line with a DGI AR. Still, they definitely have more recoil than a DGI AR or a SCAR. Not to mention that the AR-16/18 operating system of the SCAR (somewhat modified) has decades of service in other weapons (G36 and AUG in particular).
The only problem with this rifle and with other piston-driven ARs is that they experience tilt and other problems with time. HK parts are also very expensive.
I almost want to say that LWRC is probably a better option for cost reasons.
@lethalweapon129 HK and LWRC both have designed the op-rod strike face to offset any carrier tilt. Not that you likely know what that is. I saw a post of yours where you claim the AR isn't as accurate as the AK because of the DGI system. The DGI system is one of the reasons it's extremely accurate, it induces no harmonics into the barrel. Not to mention that an AR is generally about twice as accurate as an AK. A good AK shoots 3MOA, a good AR shoots 1.5 MOA or less.
I don't care what anyone says this gun is the way that firearms should be moving.
I mean seriously if them ilitary has a gun that could jam under weather conditions, and then they are presented with a weapon that has been proven in all weather conditions, why not just switch, it improves efficiency.
and also can be very low cost, since it finctions off the M4/M16 platform, they can just buy the upper receivers of the 416
@40kchaoslord Some of our SF units are now just buying AKs because even the HK416s start to get screwy out in the sandbox. The AK just keeps going and going. Plus an AK on average costs about $200 to the military market where a rifle like this is well over $2,500 each.
@lethalweapon129 Wrong on so many levels. The only time you'll see an AK used is for plausible deniability. That's it. You might be able to get an AK for $200, but it will be a pile of shit. A good AK isn't really any cheaper than a good AR. But that doesn't matter, because no US or Western SOF unit regularly uses them. They use the M16 family.
i have this model in paintball gun, from the BT company they call it the tm-15 it fell really amazing and the feel with the hands, shoulder and arms position is really comfortable
I don't have any personal experience with this weapon, but I'm liking what I'm hearing about this weapon so far. Combining the functionality of the good old AR-15 design with advanced German engineering. Getting the best of both American and German designs. I love German guns and I love American guns, so this to me is practically perfect.
hopefully this system will be utilized in a variety of weapon systems, shame it took over 50 years for us americans to put our pride aside and think hey maybe there's a reason our guns keep malfunctioning, would love to put this in my shopping cart, possibly once I'm done with the colorado school of trades i could improve on this system in other ways, but avoiding a lawsuit will be the real challenge.
I just fired one of these in full-auto yesterday (with an EOTech) and I couldn't believe the accuracy! Get these to the Marines whenever it's affordable!
Thats Germany quality engineering. Reliable and tough. True there other AR weapons system but still can't beat the Germans HK. Some interested folks and I have filed a request to our shooting club to buy this rifle. Just pray we get it and field test it ourselves I know alot of us will have fun doing so.
Can any body PLEASE tell me can you own one of these guns? I here so many different things that "you can get the upper receiver and connect to an AR" blah blah. Can you get the lower receiver? @HUEJOHNSON problem is the DOD is in bed with colt. they dont care about troop safety and about american lives. its run like a business. and since they are cozy with colt and bushmaster they wont change. i sure wish we could ask all those US troops that were all killed off in that FOB near pakistan when all their guns overheated and jammed which weapon system they would prefer... one of the many reasons i didnt re enlist. its fucking disgusting.
The reason they decided not to use it is because this weapon is much more expensive than an m4 or m16. Plus, when this was introduced to them, they had already ordered a CRAP TON of m4s and m16s from colt, and they didn't want to put them to waste, so they only bought a handful of the 416 and have had high special operations forces use them, and they are well established having already been used in the field by navy seals and delta force. Plus, you forgot the US Marine corps.

I didn't hear about the Marine Corps' order of the 416. Thank you, just another thing to put on my list of Reasons I'm joining the Marine Corps. And the M16 and M4 are not necessarily faulty, but more along the lines of not completely reliable. The m16a4 doesn't seem to have a problem with jamming and stuff, but with the shortened system of the m4, sometimes after a long ammo intensive battle, the m4 have been known to jam a little.

@SonOfAWhisker No, they are not. The only unit that is confirmed as using it in large numbers is CAG. Maybe some are in ASWG, maybe some are in ISA maybe DEVGRU, who knows. Delta is the only one that is confirmed (as much as you can confirm anything with them) as using it. The Special Forces, SEALs, Rangers, ect are using the M4A1 SOPMOD Block II. This is not subject to change, the 416 doesn't really add much over the M4A1 unless you're shooting suppressed often or always.

@SonOfAWhisker The Mk 16 (SCAR-L) has not replaced the M4A1 in the SEAL teams or the Ranger Regiment. In fact, USSOCOM has stopped buying the SCAR-L except to replace weapons that have been broken or damaged in the field. The M4A1 SOPMOD Block II is what the Special Forces, SEAL Teams, and the Ranger Regiment use. So many guns have been speculated to have killed bin Laden. It was probably either a 10" 416 or a Mk 18 CQBR.

@SonOfAWhisker I'd say the SCAR would be the one to get. The HK 416 is having some problems in Norwegian service, there SOF units chose to stick with the C8 (licensed-built M4A1). The only real issue with the SCAR is the stock, it tends to break. That's nothing that can't be easily rectified. About the only maintenance an M4 requires is oil. Unfortunately, the Marines and in particular the Army have this backassward idea that battle implements must be white glove clean.

@SonOfAWhisker Also, from a purely technical standpoint, the SCAR is a better design. Gas piston ARs can be very good weapons, I've shot both the HK MR556A1 and the LWRC M6A2. I definitely liked the LWRC better, weight was more in line with a DGI AR. Still, they definitely have more recoil than a DGI AR or a SCAR. Not to mention that the AR-16/18 operating system of the SCAR (somewhat modified) has decades of service in other weapons (G36 and AUG in particular).

The only problem with this rifle and with other piston-driven ARs is that they experience tilt and other problems with time. HK parts are also very expensive.
I almost want to say that LWRC is probably a better option for cost reasons.

@lethalweapon129 HK and LWRC both have designed the op-rod strike face to offset any carrier tilt. Not that you likely know what that is. I saw a post of yours where you claim the AR isn't as accurate as the AK because of the DGI system. The DGI system is one of the reasons it's extremely accurate, it induces no harmonics into the barrel. Not to mention that an AR is generally about twice as accurate as an AK. A good AK shoots 3MOA, a good AR shoots 1.5 MOA or less.

@40kchaoslord Some of our SF units are now just buying AKs because even the HK416s start to get screwy out in the sandbox. The AK just keeps going and going. Plus an AK on average costs about $200 to the military market where a rifle like this is well over $2,500 each.

@lethalweapon129 Wrong on so many levels. The only time you'll see an AK used is for plausible deniability. That's it. You might be able to get an AK for $200, but it will be a pile of shit. A good AK isn't really any cheaper than a good AR. But that doesn't matter, because no US or Western SOF unit regularly uses them. They use the M16 family.

Combining the functionality of the good old AR-15 design with advanced German engineering. Getting the best of both American and German designs. THE AR PLATFORM TO ME IS ONE OF THE BEST BALANCED PLARTFORMS EVER DESIGNED. STONER WAS A GENIOUS. UNFORTUNATELY ITS ONE FLAW WAS THE GAS SYSTEM. HK TOOK THE CANCELLED XM8, TOOK OUT THE VITAL COMPONENTS AND REPACKAGED IT AS THE HK 416. SO MUCH BETTER, FAMILIAR, AND EXTREMELY RELIABLE. HONESTLY THE MILITARY SHOULD UPGRADE ALL WEAPONS TO 7.62X51, USING A 10IN 417. The reason they decided not to use it is because this weapon is much more expensive than an m4 or m16. Plus, when this was introduced to them, they had already ordered a CRAP TON of m4s and m16s from colt, and they didn't want to put them to waste, so they only bought a handful of the 416 and have had high special operations forces use them, and they are well established having already been used in the field by navy seals and delta force. Plus, you forgot the US Marine corps.

I didn't hear about the Marine Corps' order of the 416. Thank you, just another thing to put on my list of Reasons I'm joining the Marine Corps. And the M16 and M4 are not necessarily faulty, but more along the lines of not completely reliable. The m16a4 doesn't seem to have a problem with jamming and stuff, but with the shortened system of the m4, sometimes after a long ammo intensive battle, the m4 have been known to jam a little.

The USMC is currently field testing the HK416 (M27) auto-version in Afghanistan to eventually replace the M249 SAW. I hope so, the SAW is a piece of shit! I hope they eventually replace all M-4s with HK416s. Just wishful thinking though.

THIS GUN AS OF NOW, SHOULD BE REPLACING THE M16/M4 IN FRONT LINE UNITS. HELL THE WHOLE MILITARY SHOULD BE USING THESE WEAPONS. FAMILIAR, EASY TO TRAIN ON, DUE TO RESEMBALANCE TO M16, EASY TO CLEAN, EXTREMLY RELIABLE, BAD ASS ALL AROUND GUN. THE MARINES HAVE SMARTEND UP AND HAVE CHOSEN IT FOR THEIR IAR.
