Really...the bass solo? Personally I got nothing from the bass solo. He's out of tune for most of it, and his lines are gibberish. Most of it is fluff, he doesn't seem to develop anything, or follow the changes that closely.
@avestjazz If you can't hear that he's out of tune you need to go back to your ear training class, or you're probably one of those clowns who assumes it must all be on purpose because you worship his shit. I bet you any money if you asked him personally he'd agree that he went out of tune a bunch in this solo.
@Sunderlanding i don't want to argue with you any more, you can be fan of this musicians or not but solo is not out of tune, and you think it is. end of story.
I never respond to these videos because instead of commenting you should be watching and learning! But This time i will because there are 3 Jazz Giants in front of you and instead of learning youre all talking. Im not and neither is anyone posting on youtube as Good of players as any of these guys. To all who are critical....Shut up and Go PRACTICE! DONT PLAY! PRACTICE! BE OBJECTIVE, YOURE NOT THAT GOOD, NO ONE IS LISTENING. GO WORK! AND THAT GOES FOR MYSELF ALSO.................
Chick Corea is a true musical genius. In his music you feel thousand different influences, from Bela Bartok to Scriabin, from Bill Evans to McCoy Tyner..But his style is original and unique.
i feel that no one can compare any of these artist to anyone even each other for they are only giving you their individual interpretation , as if a baby was playing the piano , as if they had not heard the others and all they knew is that they were having fun on the keys , so to all who have judgement or opinion save it for when you play and i gurantee you to will play with individuality and originality also , thank you .
Chick always brings his signature interpretation of jazz standards. Apart from his incredible compositional flair, the true essence of his style lies the deepest rooted in rhythmic sphere of any jazz musician I've heard (love Mike Brecker's rhythmic prowess too!). Also, Chick's Elektric band (with Patittucci, Weckl, Henderson) rank as my all-time favorite fusion band. Long live Corea, Hancock Jarrett and Metheny.
Patitucci is really talented, and sometimes he does amazing thing, for instance in this footage. But I wouldn't even rank him in my top 30 favorite bassists.. So many heavy names like Luiz Chaves, N.H.O.P, Ray Brown, Mingus, Ron Carter, Paul Chambers, Chris McBride, Itiberê Zwarg, Alberto Continentino, Abraham Laboriel, etc.. sorry but no donut for Patitucci.
@renanmusic John has played with B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, George Benson, Dizzy Gillespie, Carly Simon, Queen Latifah, Bon Jovi, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Stan Getz, and Wynton Marsalis, Sting, Aaron Neville, Natalie Cole, Carole King. John has also worked with film composers Ry Cooder, James Newton Howard, Henry Mancini, John Williams and Howard Shore..............HAVE YOU?!?!
Monk was an inventor of bop, even coltrane said playing with monk was difficult because of the range of chords he'd use. The difference is Chick has more influences outside of Jazz in his playing to my ears. Ever way, while Monk did not have the technique that corea has I would write ever off, both are wonderful players who really managed to add to the rhythm side of jazz along with the harmonic side.
u know MIHMUS no question chick is such a great player ,,,but i guess sometimes it s not about how much chords or scales u play ,,it s about the feeling u carrie to the audience ...and sometime people just want to enjoy the feelin much more then scales and thecnics ..
Corea didnt get famous for knowing too much scales and chords... but for using them with the taste and style of a TRUE MASTER period. Monk knew less chords and scales but he had the true master touch also. the thing here is to know very well his vocabulary to enjoy it.. like any other art... exmpl. if you read a very complex book (poetry) you can enjoy it.. but some one who has dedicate his life studing poetry should enjoy it better, because he is getting many more details about it. keep it up!
Monk don't know even half of Chick's scales, harmonies, chords... But Monk IS great person, legend and author of this tune. Monk's "Round Midnight" is classic! Chick's "Round Midnight" is evolution of jazz music!
Try to listen any Monk's record and any Chick's record - it completely different levels of playing piano, sounding... Or try to play transcriptions of Chick's solos - so many different ways, unexplained to us...
Jazz harmony are not statistical, it develops due to musicians like Corea, Hancock, Metheny, Jarrett and many many other...
@mihmus I wouldn't quite say that. The reason why Monk's sound is so dissonant is because of the extensive theory he did have. Get a copy of the The Life and Times of an american original. He sound was purely by choice and not from lack of talent. Some people believe that less is more.
I got a chance to see Chick Corea and Bela Fleck live at the University of Florida. I must say before that I didn't know to much about him. After seeing him live in concert I was hooked. He's an AWESOME musician.
I think Chick's playing is getting much more spiritual these days, which is really great, and it's getting more deep meaning.i personally think this video is not his best.he's way better than this. Viva Chick!!ha2
There's no way this is either Novak or Weckl on drums. This is the one-of-a-kind Vinnie Colaiuta, showing he can play in any setting with anybody and do it well, even with very little actual playing time with them. He has always been a consummate professional.
chick is so technically and theoretically capable. I reckon he's the most capable. he has everything possible open to him in terms of what he can do with the piano. I personally relate to herbie hancock's impro more, but chick is such a technical giant, it's still so inspiring
That's Jazzz Men!..I Think the drummer is Gary Novak.I've seen them on Jazz Middelheim 1993 with Bob Berg (who unfortunatly passed away by a car crash)...
I think this was a one time gig to record a live for import CD. Now that it's 15 years later, I would love to see Vinnie go on an actual tour with the Acoustic Band and then see how they sound together. Sadly, it probably will never happen.
Really...the bass solo? Personally I got nothing from the bass solo. He's out of tune for most of it, and his lines are gibberish. Most of it is fluff, he doesn't seem to develop anything, or follow the changes that closely.
