Cobra took a huge page out of "Dirty Harry". The tough guy cop who plays by his own rules. Hell Cobra's partner is the same guy as Dirty Harry's! And the police chief is the guy who plays the killer in Dirty Harry! Awesome Movies!
To this day, my brother and I often raise the silverware over our heads at restaurants and clank them Night Slasher style over our heads. Truly, this film is a trove of goodness.
@xsf908 Yes. Stallone was originally going to play Alex Foley but Stallone wanted it to be more of an action movie and less of a comedy so he was replaced by Eddie Murphy and Stallone rewrote the movie as Cobra.
Underrated classic action film. It's a shame this wasn't as succesful as it should have been becuase I would have loved if it became a series, i wanted some sequels! Stallone had Rocky and Rambo as epic franchises, Cobra could have been one too.
i always think stallone could've done much better in the second half of the 80s especially since i feel it was the very best time for (action)movies.... cobra looked promising but was to me a bit disapointing, so much potential wasted , only rambo III really delivered with bigger than life action and that style of that era.
Cobra is amazing! omigosh, Stallone is beautiful in this movie, just beautiful! even in spanish -- thats not his real voice though, I don't think. This movie is awsome.
@1001thewoodsman If Richard Gere was The Night Slasher he would have been running around raping and killing men, and Ingrid would have not been a necessary character.
Listen to Opie and Anthony comment about this movie. I especially like the warehouse/foundry building in the end fight scene where everything's on fire and hooks are swinging around and no one is working there.
aahh the good old days they don't make em like this anymore good classic 80's action none of this pussy excuses of action movies you see these days, bring back the good shit like naked women, explosions, gun fights, brawls, martial art fighting, awesome car chases and of course cool quotes
whats with the match in his mouth he should of had a cigaret and the gun he has at the end the 1911 is sweet the one with the cobras on the pistol grips
While this isn't my all time favorite shoot-'em-up flick, it IS the epitome of of the '80's action movie. On those occasions when I come across it while channel surfing, I always watch it to its conclusion.
@vivadjango Even though I like most Stallone films. And this is okay. Why does he dress like a fag, walk like a fag, eat like fag, drink like a fag, chew matches like a fag. Harry Callaghan always walked, talked, dressed & acted like a mans man. And the ultimate cop. Cobra is just a poor imataion. Harry didnt need an arsenal of guns our explosive to take down & take out the trash. He needed one thing the 48 magnum.
@martinwilliamrandall i'd know what you're thinking punk!, did he fired 6 shoots or only 5? but to tell you the true i forgot myself with all this excitement.
but being this is a magnun 44 the most powerful handgun in the world it will blow your head clean off.
you could ask yourself a question! do i feel lucky?, do you punk? lol.
nice to see that this movies still had some fans....
@Tagahahu Callaghan would blow his brains out with that magnum before John Rambo had even time to pick up his big guns. Callaghan is style & substance where Cobra is just style & Rambo is just substance. Dont get me wrong I love the 4 Rambo movies but in weapons terms less is more& Callaghan wins everytime.
Back when real action movies were made, before political correctness came along and killed them. But now they're back with RAMBO IV and THE EXPENDABLES. Hell yeah!
Man, these movies are such classics!!! Even wtihout the cgi nd effects, they still r so much fun, more so than most of todays action films!!! Terminator, Die Hard, Rocky, Cobra...and many more...CLASSICS!!!
@jeanpaul59230 like i said to Bluth i liked some 80's films with CGI like Predator,The Last Starfighter,The Abyss,2010,Young Sherlock Holmes,Willow but they dont butcher it like they do today!
This film is pure 80s action quality. Like the soundtrack too. Remember hiring this and Commando at the same time on VHS. Stallone in a dark role and for all his cheesyness, I actually like his character. No CGI toilet, just straight stunts and good action, where the hell has it all gone? The scene where he steps out of his car with the aviators on, chewing the match is great. Love it. Hopefully a good quality version on blu-ray soon!!!
the cheesiness is reminding me of the new expendables movie. which is a GOOD thing. i always loved these semi-cheesy action movies of yesteryear, they are fun and ussually got the best action, even if the dialogue suffers. but stallone in this movie reminded me too much of his character in over the top, the quiet type who can be badass. robert teppers "angel of the city" tune rocks though, even if its set to models and robots.

@bluth78 the 80s had its good amount of CGI like Predator,THE Last Starfighter,The Abyss,2010,Young Sherlock Holmes etc but they dont butcher it like they do today which annoys me
