hey tnx for the vid, but it will be nice if you change place the link, is really annoying when you are trying to back and forth the vid and the link keep getting pressed...
@beaker071 Only some of the beats are linear. Notice that the bass and the hi-hat are played together at least once in some of the beats he demonstrates. Linear drumming is where the notes are layered so that only one drum or symbal is struck at one time so that the two sticks never strike at the exact same time. Sorry bout responding to such an old comment, i couldn't resist. I played linear for a while and it's overrated when that's all you do, but it's good to have in your repertoire.
@SputniksArmy Yeah, if you check out guys like David Garibaldi and Steve Gadd on youtube, they do a lot of linear drumming. It's nice at first but it gets kinda old after a while. It's fun to mix in a couple of measures of it in a song but anymore than that just bores me.
But that doesn't mean that it will bore you. You should try it, maybe you'll find that Linear drumming is totally your thing. There's only one way to find out. Get a Linear Drumming Exercises book and go to town on it.
@whygodrums10 ..if that isn't off beat drumming then what is???? if you are in a competition "Making Myself Look Like an Idiot at YouTube", then you are in the running for 1st place.
thank you so much for posting these lessons. don't listen to them haters, they prolly couldn't give as great lessons like you do. i've only been drumming for a month, with no lessons or whatsoever. your videos have been helping me all throughout! thanks jared!
Yes it does resemble it, but the Introduction to Fall Out Boy's song starts with 3 basses instead of just two....i think. But yes you are right, they do sound alike.
XD Why do all these beats sound so cool when he plays them faster?? i can honestly admit a lot of them made me wanna jump around while sitting in my computer chair
this is video is titled wrongly, the hi hat stays the same on most examples, the bass drum changes.

Is it just me or is the beat at 4:42 basically the beat that starts off Fall Out Boy's "Sugar We're Goin' Down"? I mean, the resemblance is uncanny.
bartvsskinner 2 years ago
i think in Sugar we're going down the hi hat pattern isn't off beat, but apart from that it is pretty much the same.
TomGoth 2 years ago
Yes it does resemble it, but the Introduction to Fall Out Boy's song starts with 3 basses instead of just two....i think. But yes you are right, they do sound alike.
SweetSunshineCamper 2 years ago
Sugar has hi hats on 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + of every measure and bass drum on 1 e a 3 e a and snares on 2 e a 4 e a.
(e = the second, sixth, tenth, and fourteenth sixteenth notes of a measure)
(a = the pickup note to each quarter note [4th 8th 12th and 16th notes])
jsnake01 2 years ago
Alright, I'll go with what you said because you seem to know what you are talking about.
