  • beat 2 sorta sounds like kashmir by Led Zeppelin

  • @TheMigster87

its very different actually. kashmir's beat is just a four on the floor with a double stroke on the bass drum.

  • @jesucristo103 Hi :D

  • @aaron2414 repent jesus loves you.

  • @aaron2414 i just thought that...

  • i wish i culd play drums :(

  • is this also linear drumming ?

  • @beaker071 Only some of the beats are linear. Notice that the bass and the hi-hat are played together at least once in some of the beats he demonstrates. Linear drumming is where the notes are layered so that only one drum or symbal is struck at one time so that the two sticks never strike at the exact same time. Sorry bout responding to such an old comment, i couldn't resist. I played linear for a while and it's overrated when that's all you do, but it's good to have in your repertoire.

  • @jamor111 Linear drumming is when nothing strikes at the same time? I thought that would be more exciting and diverse than normal drumming

  • @SputniksArmy Yeah, if you check out guys like David Garibaldi and Steve Gadd on youtube, they do a lot of linear drumming. It's nice at first but it gets kinda old after a while. It's fun to mix in a couple of measures of it in a song but anymore than that just bores me.

But that doesn't mean that it will bore you. You should try it, maybe you'll find that Linear drumming is totally your thing. There's only one way to find out. Get a Linear Drumming Exercises book and go to town on it.

  • @jamor111 thats true, i throw in some beats that are linear, then go back to non-linear.

  • i wish my kit sounded that sweet

  • now everyone needs to go listen to "Discipline" by Nine Inch Nails.....

  • @whygodrums10 your thick its off beat because its not in time on certain sections

  • @whygodrums10 ..if that isn't off beat drumming then what is???? if you are in a competition "Making Myself Look Like an Idiot at YouTube", then you are in the running for 1st place.

  • the hihat is played on the +'s that means the hihat is off beat

  • @whygodrums10 It's just a name for it, it doesn't mean he's off beat. It just means that he's not playing on the 8th notes.

  • 4:10 my favorite beat to play

  • what the hell? how did 4:58 happen? he only brought his foot once, but the beater slams twice into the head. can anyone tell me how to do that?

  • @timotimot he's hitting once with the ball of his foot then once with his toes. (it's called heel-toe, but it's the ball not the heel)

  • he's using the heal - toe method

  • good for dance music

  • wow, beat 9 was my favorite

btw is there a full song of the intro/outro music? i love that

  • ..thank you sir you vey great , i hope you could teach me personal , i realy want o play drums ..

  • thank you so much for posting these lessons. don't listen to them haters, they prolly couldn't give as great lessons like you do. i've only been drumming for a month, with no lessons or whatsoever. your videos have been helping me all throughout! thanks jared!

    much love,

    keesh

  • 7 was quite nice

  • @iceymanjack it sounded like chop suey

  • then watch other videos. noone forces you to watch him.

and btw he is an awesome teacher and drummer.

  • hahahahahahaha

  • Comment removed

  • That was probably one of the most helpful lessons I've heard...Amazing job man.

  • Is it just me or is the beat at 4:42 basically the beat that starts off Fall Out Boy's "Sugar We're Goin' Down"? I mean, the resemblance is uncanny.

  • i think in Sugar we're going down the hi hat pattern isn't off beat, but apart from that it is pretty much the same.

  • Yes it does resemble it, but the Introduction to Fall Out Boy's song starts with 3 basses instead of just two....i think. But yes you are right, they do sound alike.

  • Sugar has hi hats on 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + of every measure and bass drum on 1 e a 3 e a and snares on 2 e a 4 e a.

(e = the second, sixth, tenth, and fourteenth sixteenth notes of a measure)

(a = the pickup note to each quarter note [4th 8th 12th and 16th notes])

  • Alright, I'll go with what you said because you seem to know what you are talking about.

  • Cant see why he need a axis

  • seriously i wish i had those

  • He's probably a very good drummer, just does these simple lessons for beginners.

  • too easy

  • Well! Excuuuuuuuuuuuuse us! Harumph!

  • When you're a beginner nothing is easy ;)

  • Sad Sad City - Ghostland Observatory' that song has this beat. also pretty good song.

  • he uses axis you can tell by the hi-hat stand

  • he can afford them.

  • i want my snaredrum sound like this one!!!!!!!

  • reno 911

  • wtf?

  • get it.

  • if he opened up the hihat each time it will sounds like a new nin beat

  • and then when you get too comfy learn them lefty

  • i like beats 7 and 9 best

  • totaly agree :D

  • Nice video, good lesson.

  • That's why it's called off beat.

    Because its' OFF BEAT.

Besides, it's funner to play around with off beats once you got them down.

  • 4.27 knights of cydonia muse beat lol

  • XD Why do all these beats sound so cool when he plays them faster?? i can honestly admit a lot of them made me wanna jump around while sitting in my computer chair

  • because fastness is awesome.

  • wut song is in the beginning of the video?!

  • Freedrumlessons rock!

  • Axis for sure.

  • I think their longboards of some type.

    probably tricks or axis

    lovely kit also

  • tama iron cobra me thinks.

  • What brand of pedals are used in this video?

  • I think its the DW 5000 heel-less pedal, search it up if your not sure what im talking about

  • It looks like an Axis pedal.

Not sure what model, but it looks like he's using an Axis pedal with a Pearl 4-sided beater.

  • axis longboard with a tama beater

  • check that heel toe in numba 8

  • Number nine is cool.

  • It's the intro to that fallout boy song.

  • beat number 10 is a beast

  • #6 sounds way different when it's slow than when it's fast

  • #7 sounds like Shimmy by System of a Down

  • Number 1 sounds like a Nine Inch Nails song :D.

    Great lessons. Great Drummer!

  • Great lesson, i will put it to good use.

Do you have any vids on left foot hihat techniques, ie opening and closing the hats withing a beat, i have trouble with it.

I'd apreciate anyones comments or advice;)

  • I only trouble with number 7 & 9

  • 2nd post ftw

  • Brilliant lesson. Very useful. Please upload more!
