Ja`Von establish a solid steady groove during the verses, allowing the song to breathe, which builds tension and allows for release when the fills are executed. Because he understands note value; he makes less hits count. And then @ 2:42 that hand/foot combination is executed with such extreme preciseness, it's estacy to the ears. I mean... you can't help but make that "funk face" when he executes those fills, If you didn't, you ain't feelin this deeply enough. Ja'von, that was nasty mayne!

@jaleesamg a pocket is playing a solid groove that's very tasteful, but without over-playing the song...so only maybe a few MINOR fills here and there just to keep the song moving...if you are chopping during a song, you are NOT in the pocket...there's a difference between fills and chops...although it may not be very obvious or noticable, there is still a difference.
