My hens behave as your white hen does ... its scratching pattern is 1/2/1 ... unlike your brown hen which is 2/1 ... that is scratches per leg per side ... sad I know ;-)
Has anyone else read the Anastasia Ringing Cedars series? Loaded with commonsense advice on everything from permaculture to sex to how to raise children to economics. Upshot---Permaculture is the answer to lots of our problems.
Good advice we tried to introduce our animals too early; geese snipped off the tops of the saplings, sheep ring barked our trees even when we fenced them out they broke in to eat them. Our free range chickens and guinnea fowl loved our crops particularly chard. We kept numbers low from the start, but perhaps now our plot is 10 year old it would be a better time to reintroduce them?
I found this to be an ideal video. A clear and arresting presentation that completely describes a difficult concept in a minute and a half. Congratulations. I'll subscribe. Lemme know when the DVD arrives!
BEWARE: chickens will EAT your garden/landscaping; he did say "trees".
Keeping them contained is not hard.

Put chicken wire around them (the plants, not the chickens) - guess that's why it's called "chicken wire" lol. - Blessing - Rene
