  • what type/model of compression sack is that? and who made the sleeping pad again? I couldn't make it out.

  • @karlhungusjr1 the sleeping bag is the US Army Patrol bag. they come in green or now grey. the sleeping mat is guide series self inflating but have since upgraded to the NEMO Zor 3/4 length because it is lighter. the pouch for the sleeping bag is a compression sack from my slumber jack bag. the bivy sac is from Adventure Medical Kits. the zipper is from the hardware store and for sticking on the average utility tarps. prices i dont recall sorry. i hope this helps you out.

  • i'm a hammock guy myself, and my mat would always move around,so i created a cool 'sleeve' i guess. That generic non skid rolls that you place on your shelves, that porous foamy, lightweight stuff,i found some that was about 24"x72".I also used a stretchy t-shirt material bed sheet, cut them both to the shape of my air mattress, then sewed them together, with just a zipper on one end.slide the air mattress into the 'sleeve', and my air mattress has yet to slip and slide...

  • @ZOMBIELANDakaUSA after this video i found shoe goo worked great for adding little silcone drops all over the underside and now it dosent slide anymore. your way sounds like a good fix as well.

  • @FixedByDoc

sweet, i never thought about shoe goo...i'd give a shot for sure. If i didn't hate youtube so much i'd have probably posted of my do it yourself vids, but i certainly appreciated yours...thanks

  • Could you put the weights of the components in the description?

  • @BrokenAeroVT sorry i have no way of weighing them. but each item is less than a pound except the green sleeping bag which is approximately 2lbs.

  • Hey, bro... very nice gear set. I'm sure you probably know, but for those that don't... DO NOT STORE MILITARY BAGS COMPRESSED! Only compress them when they're actually in the pack... store them hung up with a plastic hanger and laundry pins. Storing them compressed destroys their ability to hold heat consistently throughout the material.

  • @BallisticPenetration the new versions and the very old ones yes. but the issue before the current ones, the nylon only ones doesnt make a difference. thanks

  • @FixedByDoc Man,with this comment you lost all credibility. All sleeping bags have the same insulating material: air. Whatever's in the sleeping bag is just there as loft to capture air and prevent it from moving around. All sleeping bags suffer from extended periods of compression.

How you treat your own gear is no-one's business but your own, but when you are trying to broadcast yourself, such glaring inaccuracies are just warning signs that you don't understand the topic at hand.

  • @NotAUserToday07 the new fully synthetic version regains there loft after taking it out & shaking/fluffing them a bit. not talking about ones with fill. bags need to be stored uncompressed yes but not always because the compression ruins them. some bags compression doesnt matter these need to be aired out thuroughly but can be stored compressed. i have done so for years and they work just fine. if they had down or some kind of loose fill then they need to be left uncompressed. it depends on bag

  • @BallisticPenetration

great point, so easy to forget, now i better go unpack my bags!!!!

  • I imagine that a lot of condensation builds up on the inside of that outer shell, no?

  • @SpartanMonkee yes i have found you need to leave open the ends.

Manteniendote caliente y seco.

  • @saki2789 sorry i dont understand

  • @FixedByDoc Sorry i speak a litle englis, I wrote in spanish, you can translate whitch google traductor.

  • @saki2789 i will try. thanks for commenting though.

  • That green bag is called "MODULAR SLEEPING BAG, PATROL". It should have a label on the bottom of the foot area. It is part of the modular sleep system. The black bag actually goes inside the green bag. The black bag has a thicker draft tube and a chest baffle. Those are very important to have in the correct place when in cold weather.

  • My System is similar, Royal Army Bivybag in DPM (I like stealth camping), made of Goretex and sturdy enough to protect my ThermARest trail mat, Snugpak Jungle Sleeping Bag, USMC poncho as a tarp, stuff sack of the TAR as a pillow. works nicely. I'm gonna replace the TAR with the Exped Downmat UL once it's available, to save another pound.

It makes a nice "modern times" bedroll, lightweight, sturdy, no bright colors.

I wish the Heatsheet Bivvy would be available in olive green or something…

  • @q1qeu thats awesome. i just got my army gortex bivy 2 days ago. im looking for a camo 8x8 sylnylon tarp or canvas. it would be awesome but expensive to have a gortex 8x8 tarp if they even exist. sounds like you have a great system. i think i have seen the green bivy heetsheets sack but dont recall where. it was at some army surplus website. you could try canteen shop dot com at least that is a start. im not a big fan of ponchos they leave my legs wet at 6'2" tall lol.

  • @FixedByDoc

I'm small enough for a poncho :-) but the best thing about the system is, I don't need to cover more than my head and my backpack, the bivvy will take care of my body and legs.

To my knowledge there is no Goretex tarp. for a good reason: it would be too heavy and too expensive imho. A tarp doesn't have to be breathable like a rain jacket or a bivybag.

DDHammocks from the UK sell their 3x3m (~10x10ft?) Tarp in multicam now, a real bargain at around 600 grams for ~50 bucks

  • @q1qeu sounds cool i will check them out.

  • Any thoughts to putting the sleeping pad inside the heat bag? Might slip around a bit less.

  • @JSD3530 i guess you could do that. there is enough room.

  • I like to use a extra large Ziploc bag.

  • @dinnerandashow lol. tat should work...

  • @type11023 that is just it the military sleeping bag it has no other name than that oh wait it comes with a serial number. it is army issue standard sleeping bag. everyone else gets it.

  • how much does your system weigh?

  • @gaozhi2007 the bivy sack and sleeping bag plus pillow about 1 1/2 lbs give or take a couple ounces.

  • Great video and great system, I love the zipper. But that heat sheet bivvy is not breathable, I woud not have the dog in there with you for fear of suffocating the poor critter.

  • @KamenDesantis nope he sleeps on it. it gets real warm. had it out down to -22* F and stayed fairly warm. but decided that it is better used as a ground sleep system than a hammock one. kyle (the dog) loves climbing in and sleeping in my sleeping bag with me.

  • I really like your vids. Keep up the good work!!!

  • @mpwasz thank you. i try to do the best i can when i can. i appreciate ppl like you watching and commenting on them very much.

  • Sorry, posted under my son's account by mistake...love your videos!

  • @fuzzievohs thanks... i have updated this video. here i said it would be great for hammocking but have decided lately that it slips and slides to much. but still is excelent for getting in and out... glad you enjoy my videos... what is a fuzzie vohs...

  • Do you have condensation issues with this system?

  • @HopDiddyBrothers sorry just saw you comment today. yes there are condensation issues which i fixed by opening vents in side and at feet on the near under side after further review. this seemed to help. i just used tarp tape and added some no-see-um netting. thanks for asking.

  • ashort video a Real short 8:11 min video

  • @nogggggin ican make them really long but then ppl would get bored.

  • I was thinking about buying one of those green usgi patrol bags but im not sure i would fit at 6'4''. What do you think?

  • @fuctfuct28 im 6'2" and love mine. its my favorite bag. i think two more inches wouldnt make a difference. i suggest going to canteenshop dot com to get the whole set (the green summer, black fall, and the goretex bivy). they have them for $150 total last checked and have not seen them cheaper anywhere else. the set combines to make -50* bag when wearing polypros in conjunction.

  • @FixedByDoc check ebay or google military surplus ,also im 6'4 350 lbs and i fit fine good investment

  • You have some really great ideas! I like how the camera moves down and then the dog comes out like he was working the camera.

  • @ZiptieTheDog Funny I never noticed it like that before. LOL.

  • thanks for the info going to lows now to get a zipper for mine. thanks

  • Hope you can find them and your welcome.

  • After using this setup I have decided it works best as a ground bivy. When used in a hammock it is very slick and you slide around alot on the mat. But still is a very good system to use as a primary sleep system or as a back up. I have bought the upgrade of the Adventure Medical Bivy Sack today and will be experimenting with it. Will let you all know how it works out soon.

  • wow great bags! can you let me know where you got your zipper from. i have to build one for my self.

    thanks.

  • I got my zipper from Menards its like a Lowes or Home Depot if you dont have one. The zipper was about $7. I get the bags from Gander Mtn. They are made by: Adventure Medical, and called Bivy Sacks or Emergency blankets and cost me about $20. They are awesome and keep you very warm the zipper makes it easy to put in your sleeping bag and you dont need a tent with it if you dont want one.

  • That add on zipper is pretty cool I believe the bivy bags come now with zippers don't quote me though I don't own one to be sure.

  • Ok the Sleeping Bags Review of 6 of mine will be up in the next thirty minutes

  • @zoolander I will try to do one today or tomorrow for you. I have about five sleeping bags I think.

  • Maybe you could do a review of your sleeping bags if you have the time. I'm shopping for a light weight bag. Thanks in advance.
