Seeing that Moldova has a constitutional arrangement for the Gagauz to form a separate country in the circumstances that they form a union with another state, Romania, i fail to see why a similar arrangement cant be made with Tansdniester...as well as self rule in the same manor as the Gagauz Region. Of course it comes down to the question of how such a federated state would work...ah well.

By the way, are the BBC, Journeyman Pictures and Mr Xavier Deleu in any way affiliated with Romanian/Moldovan media? They showed the most incendiary stuff about the Transnistrian issue. An independent Moldova has only been promoted by pro-Russians. Why? To reunite Transnistria with it and turn it into a Russian protectorate. Even Soviet historians in the 1960s agreed that there is no basis for the existance of an "moldavian people", Moldavians being simply the estern branch of the Romanians. All this combined makes the re-unification with Romania a natural course of history, while the "independent Moldova" is just serving Russia's expansionism in the region.

If the Moldovans from Basarabia would be aware of who they are as part of the Romanian people, but they would preffer to be separate, ok. Here was the Moldavian capital, and many people were afraid that uniting Moldavia and Vallachia with Bucharest as the capital would turn Iasi into a poor provincial town. There were many anti-unionists here. Well, today my city is the second largest in Romania, it is the main universtitary center of Romania, and all ads up to the fact that the Union was, in the end, a good idea. Chisinau is twice the size of Iasi, so it would do even better.

They were even hoping that Romania would become a federal state Moldavia/Vallachia with 2 capitals: Iasi and Bucharest. But it didn't happen, and uniting all Romanians under one flag proved to be a good thing, and that's why it persists today with RO and MD, the two Romanian states.

Does anyone seriously believe that after the lesson learned in South Ossetia and Abkhasia Moldova would risk to attack Pridnestrovie and "pull the tail of the Russian bear" that is not in sleep any more? I doubt it. NATO missed it's chance during Yeltsin's age. This is a completely different world no. It seems that we (Serbs) had to recieve the first hit in 1994-1999, just like we did in 1941 and to buy some extra time for Russia to rise again. God, give us next Easter Day in Prizren (Kosovo)

Seeing that Moldova has a constitutional arrangement for the Gagauz to form a separate country in the circumstances that they form a union with another state, Romania, i fail to see why a similar arrangement cant be made with Tansdniester...as well as self rule in the same manor as the Gagauz Region. Of course it comes down to the question of how such a federated state would work...ah well.

By the way, are the BBC, Journeyman Pictures and Mr Xavier Deleu in any way affiliated with Romanian/Moldovan media? They showed the most incendiary stuff about the Transnistrian issue. Romanian media barely ever approaches the subject and when it does it's pretty tame and PC. And I don't get Moldovan TV through my cable, not that I'd care to watch Voronin's propaganda. Transnistria is not some idyllic little Swiss or Belgian hamlet, as you probably envision it.

An independent Moldova has only been promoted by pro-Russians. Why? To reunite Transnistria with it and turn it into a Russian protectorate. Even Soviet historians in the 1960s agreed that there is no basis for the existance of an "moldavian people", Moldavians being simply the estern branch of the Romanians. All this combined makes the re-unification with Romania a natural course of history, while the "independent Moldova" is just serving Russia's expansionism in the region.

Well, I am also Moldovan from, like I said. And it's interesting how "independent Moldova" is supported mainly by pro-Russian people. Look: in the middle ages we called ourselves Romanians, we speak Romanian, have Romanian customs and Romanian folk costumes, and while we the 6 million Moldovans from Romania have our place in the Romanian nation, our eastern brothers have been subject to decades of denaturating of their history, customs, even their language. But you don't give a FUCK about Moldova and turn your head when you are reminded that more than half of the old Moldova is in ROMANIA. I am not racist and I respect any nation as long as it respects mine. Gipsies, lol:) Nobody makes fun of them, but unfortunately many of them steal here and abroad so do not expect Romanians to like that. Romania has many minorities: Hungarians, gipsies, even Russians/Lipovans. And all minorities are represented in the Romanian parliament, and have all they want except territorial autonomy wich is out of the question. It doesnt matter if they were one country 70 years ago for 20 years, what matters is the people. The reason you would be horrible in politics is because you dont care about what the people on the Moldovan people want. well we are the same race, officially it is Daco-Thracian or something, but the census meant like Daco-Thracians born in romania(Romanians) or Daco-Thracians born in moldova(Moldovans).

That census was bullshit. I mean, there are many students from Moldova here, I have some of them as collegues, and they are not treated as a different people. If the Moldovans from Basarabia would be aware of who they are as part of the Romanian people, but they would preffer to be separate, ok. But the only reason they don't want to unite with RO is that they think they are a separate people, that Romanians are "gipsies", and all the lies and crap that the Moldovan government is spreading.

Moldovans don't want to be separate because they think they're different, mostly because they want the power to be held in Chisinau and not Bucharest.

Well, that was the same here in Iasi in 1859. Here was the Moldavian capital, and many people were afraid that uniting Moldavia and Vallachia with Bucharest as the capital would turn Iasi into a poor provincial town. There were many anti-unionists here. Well, today my city is the second largest in Romania, it is the main universtitary center of Romania, and all ads up to the fact that the Union was, in the end, a good idea. Chisinau is twice the size of Iasi, so it would do even better.

He he he, of course not:) But it wasn't easy Iasi either, many people were even protesting on the streets! When Cuza was removed from Romania's leadership in 1866, people here celebrated for 3 days! They were even hoping that Romania would become a federal state Moldavia/Vallachia with 2 capitals: Iasi and Bucharest. But it didn't happen, and uniting all Romanians under one flag proved to be a good thing, and that's why it persists today with RO and MD, the two Romanian states.

Many foreign people here on YouTube, even Russians, said that uniting Moldova with Romania is something natural, since 70% of Moldovans are ethnic Romanians.
