  • Just tried this recipie. Made my own breadcrums from some stale french bread, didn't have any milk, yet they came out sooooo delicious. 2nd recipie i've ever tried of yours, 2nd recipie I've ever cooked in my life. I just love your website, such good recipies and video tutorials :)

  • so can you just go ahead and fry the if you wanted to because my oven does not go up that high without bad things happening

  • What did I do wrong?? the panko barely stuck to the stupid onion rings... too much egg? too much milk?

  • I LOVE YOUR VIDS!! You make it all seem so easy!!

  • OMG I love your vids!!!! You make cooking seem so easy!! Wish you were my culinary teacher :)

  • i think you should deep fry them so they taste better

  • The panko does NOT stick even when I followed your directions to the T

  • @Elizabeth121507 i had that problem just now, but for me, the panko stuck perfectly on some rings, and not so hot on others. i think its cause the panko gets wet from the egg mixture, but i could be wrong.

  • this made me soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hunrgy

  • the only reason I watched this is because of the ANNOYING ORANGE video about onion ring

  • @jtd04c Ahh cool, then you have discovered a great cooking page... Foodwishes is awesome.... Props to Chef John!

  • 1:40 why kosher salt??

  • wow that looks easy and healthy!

  • Looks like a perfect desert!

  • nice sharp knife ... !!

  • spritz versus spray, learn the difference! :D

  • This is just too cute.

  • when i was a kid i worked at sonic and did the onion rings every morning for about 3 months and this is about how they do it they are delicious, good video

  • but instead of using an egg white i use a watery hooters wing breading mix then put them in the dry breading mix cooked at 365 for 5mins ,if you over cook the ring it wont be sweat and good

  • i meant deep fried for 5 mins not baked baked is yuck

  • sweet maui onions really make this great!!!

  • If you are going to indulge in onion rings, you might as well use the whole egg for Christ sakes.

  • @TOPOFFMAN That's sort of the point though. The egg whites have no fat, where as the yolks have 5 grams per yolk (half is the bad, saturated fat). When you do this recipe as Chef John says, with a spritz of olive oil cooking spray, and using Panko (which only has 2 grams of monounsaturated fat per cup), it's literally no more unhealthy than eating a fresh onion on a slice of low-fat bread (it has the same amount of calories, carbs, and fat). That's why this recipe is so cool. :)

  • To put it in perspective a little more... regular battered and fried onion rings have around 19 grams of fat per 10 onion rings (half of it is the heart-clogging saturated fat). These crispy breaded and baked onion rings have around .4 grams of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat per 10 onion rings and yet they still taste fucking amazing. =D

The salt is really the only "unhealthy" part of this recipe, but you pee it out of your system in about 2 days.

  • By the way, notice I said ".4 grams" (less than a single gram of fat) not "4 grams". Just stressing that. :)

  • @gobo760 , Salt is not unhealthy, your body needs salt otherwise you would die. What you mean is too much salt, but even then only certain people get high blood pressure from too much salt. Some people eat tons of salt and it doesn't affect them. But Salt is not unhealthy, rather salt in moderation. The idiots in the American govt don't know jack about the science of salt and how it affects the body.

  • I can see your point there. I just don't eat many eggs to begin with.

  • i just dont like the egg white separation technique...for the rest its awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • thankssss alot they were great wen i made them buttt the egg white didnt make it stick as much as a whole egg....

  • cool I'm glad I found your recipes!!

  • MY OVEN ONLY GO UP TO 300C!!!!

  • Fahrenheits and Celcius degrees are completely different things :)

    0 celcius = 32 fahrenheit

    200 celcius = 380 fahrenheit

    etc

  • omg, I DONT mean they completely different things. . . They mean the same thing (temperature) but they are just different terms/concepts, apparently chef john uses fahrenheits.

  • different measuring unit:D

    farenheit kelvin celsius:d

  • @Rumpusoolo Actually, since it's x * 1.8 + 32, 200C would be 392F.

    200 * 1.8 = 360

  • @anime08mish Give or take, you want your oven at 232C.

    The math for that is

    (F - 32)/9 = X

    X * 5 = C

  • i'm sorry~ i misheard~

    thanks 4 calculating 4 me :P

  • @anime08mish his temperatures are in Farenheit not Celsius =)

  • The temperature in the video is in fahrenheit not celsius.

    450F is 232C

  • My oven goes up over 9000!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Nemesis0300 WHAT, 9000?!?

  • Theres no way that can be right!

  • @Nemesis0300 food coinessieurs who like DBZ ftw

  • @Gumby518 Don't you mean, "who is cognizant of internet memes"

  • @0yashamaru0Return strangely enough originally I was going to put that. More proof my first guesses are usually the right ones.

But yes you are correct :)

  • @Nemesis0300 lol

  • @Nemesis0300 awesome put clay in it

  • @Nemesis0300 You're pven goes over 9000? You MUST be Chuck Norris.

  • @TheRobot452 Sorry, oven

  • @Nemesis0300 OVER 9000!?!?

    VEGETA THATS IMPOSSIBLE!

  • You are amazing, Chef John !!!!!!!!

  • DAM THOSE LOOK GOOD! fuck it ima make those >_>

  • this was well done!

  • but where r the Xs u can play tic tac toe without the Xs

  • tic-tac-toe

  • you always put pepper on every thing

  • I followed the recipe and I loved how light and healthy it was! The sweetness of the onions really came out.

Can anyone suggest any sauces to go with it? I used Japanese Mayo and Ketchup for one sauce and I tried some gyoza dipping sauce with some extra rice wine viegar.

  • @chr15pinoy Try to learn how to make mustard sauce with honey its really cool with onion rings!!

  • they look so damn tasty and mouthwatering

  • the egg stuff looks like snot!

  • or cum

  • i really prefer battered up rings, but i might try this coz of the non frying aspect...thanks for the recipe/ same question with the other person what if i used the whole egg?...

  • Sorry, I'm not Chef John, but I believe he was just trying to keep the recipe healthier than the traditional way of making orion rings.

  • looks great

  • what happens if i use the yellow part of the egg too?

    might get better!

  • Then you get more egg flavor. Egg whites are really quite neutral tasting as far as protein goes, but the yolks have sulfur and cholesterol and all sorts of stuff that has a strong flavor.

The point of using whites is to feature the sweetness of a good yellow onion without distraction. Try to get Vidalia onions -- done well, they're mindblowing.

  • i made these just a few minutes ago =]

    Pretty good! <3

  • That looks really good! Salamat Po!!!
