Houses in contrary to house has an additional s at the end and that means it is the plural.

I'm afraid the whole "emo fag shit" thing is caused by whiny vocals. We have just to wait, until the fad driven by false statement "stay as close to the microphone, so you'll be louder" (as if there were no mastering possibilities) ceases, and until vocalists begin to sing to the microphone from a bigger distance again, because the closer to the microphone he is, the more whiny the voice sounds. Besides, a total absence of reverb implied on voice emphasises it's potential whininess...
