The seat is not connected to the ski under the butt so there's no direct impact. The binding goes up to a hinge under the person's knees, with a hydraulic shock absorber so the body can bounce smoothly. Much like the new way of having rear shocks on motorbikes... they're no longer connected to the seat.

Dude are you kidding? they have more balls than half the other contestants. Mono ski is one of the toughest things to do at the X-games, it require insane amounts of arm and hip strength. They are true athletes despite the various handicaps they carry.
