I've seen a let's play of the game and I can sort of understand if you like the game, but how is it any way a "masterpiece"? It's terribly bugged and glitchy, unbalanced and repetitive. The monsters make no sense and some parts are frustrating beyond belief.
I know it's supposed to be all about the story, but it really won't be very enjoyable if you stretch it thin across 10 hours of mindless corridor after corridor after corridor. And Chronos? Seriously?
The general ignorance to this game just shows how idiotic most of the gaming community is. It has one of the most masterful stories ever written. The only other game that even comes close is Bioshock. Forget the Physx, the graphics, the shooting. This game is to be played for the same reason you read Shakespeare. Story and characters.
Cryostasis has extremely basic gameplay, maintaining a walk forward, shoot bad guy process throughout. However, it is entirely made up for by the ultimate devotion to storytelling and immersion. If you look closely enough, you'll see no detail left unpolished, and every character with his own few quirks, even some of those with only one or two lines. It is also knee-deep in symbolism, as each crewmember turns into a monster representing his own sins from the Chernobyl-like reactor.
@thomasshohio 10. It's a flawed masterpiece, but it's a masterpiece nonetheless. You just don't get a storytelling experience like it in a video game.
@leewolfgang It sure is. There are many great mainstream games, but they don't really have the masterpiece feeling that this game does. They have little substance with huge amounts of polish. If only we didn't have more of the best of both worlds like Bioshock (1).

It's got an interesting idea to it and the storyline SOUNDS great but in all honesty this is just a cheap, nasty excuse for a game that isn't worth a penny of anyone's money. The graphics ain't bad but the gameplay is AWFUL! And of course gameplay is what it's all about. There are a heap of other problems with the game such as sound crackling/loss, and motion blur crashing the game...

wow, you are serious... I looked at its cover box and it did catch my attention, but, seeing the trailer and you're response was a little over the top. With all the games out there, this "unknown" caught you're attention...huh, interesting.
Interesting? Uh.. yeah. This wasn't really unknown for me. This had been hyped up as the "Russian BioShock" a couple of months before hand and I was looking forward to it. It isn't at all like BioShock, it's different, but still amazing in my book. It's gunplay sucks for most of the game, but the story easily surpasses everything I could have imagined. And it looks spectacular.

Cryostasis is a brilliant game, but its not for everyone.
If you only like games like Crysis, with high tempo, kickass graphics, lots of shooting and you soloing millions of enemies. then you'll hate this game.
If you like oldstyle survival horror games, with slow gameplay, nasty enemies, weak weapons (can't hit a damn thing with my rifles). great atmosphere. fun puzzles, great, symbolisstic story, and you don't give a damn about graphics. then this is the best game of all time.
and I think one of the reasons why it's not that famous is because it's exlusive for the pc. and not any PC can realy play it with best graphics and with high FPS!

Actually it has....if you don't have a PhysX card, all the physics will be done by your processor and it costs TONS of performance....a quad core processor, 2 GB of RAM and a good graphic card with a PhysX card are absolutely necessary!
@SquigPie uhm well, all that is true, but what you said about the graphics not entirely, the graphics in this game are really good, and still for today my pc sometimes had a lagg, because cryostasis is really demanding in graphics and CPU.
@dimitry246 I know. My dual-core Phenom II processor with GTS 250 GPU can't really do it full graphics. I have to do most graphics on Medium, no Anti-aliasing or Filtering. Otherwise, I'll get around 30 fps. I can get a full 60-80 with medium though. The game is kind of like a mix between Silent Hill and Bioshock.
@vearheart42 Well, it's a brand new card. We used to have an 8600 GT before this Christmas, but then we got the 250. So unless I want to buy a better card myself, which I have no money :P, we'll be sticking to this one. I can run pretty much any game, unlike the 8600 which made me play most new-gen games full low graphics, bad fps. It didn't even play L4D2 very well. My own computer has a Sempron 3000+ with a 6600GT, so I'm not complaining about the 250 :P.
@VampireBaru Computer components should be selected after you've done a lot of research on them. I mean you have to understand that is a substantial investment. Though it's good you picked up a card that was a substantial improvement. :)
@vearheart42 Well, to tell you the truth, it wasn't my decision. It was my step-dad's. We all have our own computers, me, my mom and my step-dad. He has a GTS 250 in HIS, and so he bought that one. He already threw in $300 for the processor, dunno why he didn't just get a great graphics card. But you're right, it IS a substantial improvement :). When I build my own, I'll probably get the same processor but a 5840 instead.
@SquigPie The ting is i do give a damn about graphics, but hehe not all good graphic games are good. Wolfenstein and Far Cry 2 was a huge disappoint for me :( a waste of good story's and game play. But i see your point, and people should know not all bad ass graphic game's are the best.

Which 200 series card was it was it on of them from the list. 260 FTW. Oh and this game is really phisx heavy so if you have a spare card, slot and enough power throw it in. Um mind you it must be an 8000 series and up card to use phisx. Then agin I was running my GPU and CPU folding clients so that may have been why it was acting odd.

What's more is... the story. I mean what the hell its like an M. Night Shyamalan's story but poorly done. It made almost no sense and it really did not fit with what happened onboard the ship. You never met these people before so why are you suppose to relate to the main guy in the story that is only mentioned through pages you find. The game is messed up and makes no sense. It's one of those "HEY LOOK AT US WE HAVE A PHYSZ ENGINE YAY WERE COOL NOW" It was cool for the first 10min then boring.
Played it through. There are a lot of questions now. What were they transporting that was so important and worth taking the risk. What the HELL is with the last boss and what is it more or less. Plus what was the point in saying you can change the past, YOU HAVE TO! YOU HAVE NO CHOICE IT IS HOW YOU PROGGRESS THROUGH THE DAMN GAME. So it is a SET path type game. You are just playing a book with only one end. A typical end too. There really was no need for fighting just puzzles and staying alive.
You are a meteorologist assigned to this ship "North Wind" and you are to investigate the deaths of the crew. While there you are attacked by various spirits. You do have the ability to go back in time through the minds of the dead crew and change their fate including yours. You also get to see into the past for breif moments to know what happened. Basicly there really was no need to include combat because its mainly a mistery horror type game like a Nancy Drew thing. Better to just have puzzles
just finished it. definately worth it. laggy some times (not well optimized) even on pc's that overcome by far it's minimum requirements. but the story is well implemented and overall it offers about 8-10 hours of ambient -and sometimes scaring- gaming. cannot label it nor fps neither adventure.
How to give yourself nightmares:
1. Buy this game
2. Turn all the lights off and remove all light.
3. Play at night
4. Don't stop playing until you finish the campaign.
5. Congrats! You should go find a therapist now.

Every monster is a symbolic representation of the acts that the crewmen commmited and their thoughts.

@SquigPie uhm well, all that is true, but what you said about the graphics not entirely, the graphics in this game are really good, and still for today my pc sometimes had a lagg, because cryostasis is really demanding in graphics and CPU.

@dimitry246 I know. My dual-core Phenom II processor with GTS 250 GPU can't really do it full graphics. I have to do most graphics on Medium, no Anti-aliasing or Filtering. Otherwise, I'll get around 30 fps. I can get a full 60-80 with medium though. The game is kind of like a mix between Silent Hill and Bioshock.

@VampireBaru You should really look into getting a newer graphics card at least a 260 cause the 250 was a rebrand of a 9600 I believe.

@vearheart42 Well, it's a brand new card. We used to have an 8600 GT before this Christmas, but then we got the 250. So unless I want to buy a better card myself, which I have no money :P, we'll be sticking to this one. I can run pretty much any game, unlike the 8600 which made me play most new-gen games full low graphics, bad fps. It didn't even play L4D2 very well. My own computer has a Sempron 3000+ with a 6600GT, so I'm not complaining about the 250 :P.

@VampireBaru Computer components should be selected after you've done a lot of research on them. I mean you have to understand that is a substantial investment. Though it's good you picked up a card that was a substantial improvement. :)

@vearheart42 Well, to tell you the truth, it wasn't my decision. It was my step-dad's. We all have our own computers, me, my mom and my step-dad. He has a GTS 250 in HIS, and so he bought that one. He already threw in $300 for the processor, dunno why he didn't just get a great graphics card. But you're right, it IS a substantial improvement :). When I build my own, I'll probably get the same processor but a 5840 instead.

@SquigPie The ting is i do give a damn about graphics, but hehe not all good graphic games are good. Wolfenstein and Far Cry 2 was a huge disappoint for me :( a waste of good story's and game play. But i see your point, and people should know not all bad ass graphic game's are the best.

hi i also got a 200 series card from evga i logged in on the website it gave me a keycode and clicked it and i have to pay for it on nvidia website before i can download it, i dont understand

Which 200 series card was it was it on of them from the list. 260 FTW. Oh and this game is really phisx heavy so if you have a spare card, slot and enough power throw it in. Um mind you it must be an 8000 series and up card to use phisx. Then agin I was running my GPU and CPU folding clients so that may have been why it was acting odd.

What's more is... the story. I mean what the hell its like an M. Night Shyamalan's story but poorly done. It made almost no sense and it really did not fit with what happened onboard the ship. You never met these people before so why are you suppose to relate to the main guy in the story that is only mentioned through pages you find. The game is messed up and makes no sense. It's one of those "HEY LOOK AT US WE HAVE A PHYSZ ENGINE YAY WERE COOL NOW" It was cool for the first 10min then boring.

Played it through. There are a lot of questions now. What were they transporting that was so important and worth taking the risk. What the HELL is with the last boss and what is it more or less. Plus what was the point in saying you can change the past, YOU HAVE TO! YOU HAVE NO CHOICE IT IS HOW YOU PROGGRESS THROUGH THE DAMN GAME. So it is a SET path type game. You are just playing a book with only one end. A typical end too. There really was no need for fighting just puzzles and staying alive.

You are a meteorologist assigned to this ship "North Wind" and you are to investigate the deaths of the crew. While there you are attacked by various spirits. You do have the ability to go back in time through the minds of the dead crew and change their fate including yours. You also get to see into the past for breif moments to know what happened. Basicly there really was no need to include combat because its mainly a mistery horror type game like a Nancy Drew thing. Better to just have puzzles

just finished it. definately worth it. laggy some times (not well optimized) even on pc's that overcome by far it's minimum requirements. but the story is well implemented and overall it offers about 8-10 hours of ambient -and sometimes scaring- gaming. cannot label it nor fps neither adventure.

This game is SO fucking Amazing...!!
I already played the game. the Story, the Grafics and all the Effects are realy good.
The only thing that i hated was the gameplay cuz is too slow. I advice you to try out the game. xD
