I was stationed at Mountain Home AFB from 1981 to 1983. We had the F-111's as well as the EF-111's. Awesome plane. I was a memner of the 366th Security police Squadron.
I was a DCC in the 391st at Mtn Home. Gawd I love the F111A! Cryin shame my bird was scraped and did not have a few more flight hours with the Aussies.
I was NCOIC, Wing Mobility at RAF Lakenheath when we "stole" the mission from Cannon AFB to Taif, Saudia Arabia. Longest days and nights of my life. The 48th TFW was outstanding.
I was an Autopilot/Instruments specialist on the F111A's stationed at Mountan Home AFB in Idaho. 1978-1981. We had 12 of are planes in Turkey when the US tried the raid to get our folks out of Iran. I was engine run certified so I got to play alot. Also had a one hour flight before I left the base. Was in the 366th AGS / 390th AMU.
@disissparta1 The flight was awesome. Since I work on all the flight instrument anything the pilot (left seater) used I worked on. I was in the right seat so while I knew some of the stuff. The flight was 1 hour long. We did mock bomb runs and some TFR (terrian following radar). The drop from 10,000 feet to 1,000 then on to 200 ft above the ground sure did flip my stomach. But flying 200 ft above the ground at around 600 MPH was unbelievable. Sure would like a chance to do it ago.
I was an avionics tech on the F-111. It is too bad that it's real capabilities will be known only to those that were in the program. In Red Flag, they restricted if from it's full capabilities to "level the playing field". In Desert Storm, It out performed all aircraft in all catagories (including cost to operate). NONE of it's combat losses were do to enemy actions. It deserves much more recognition that it gets. NOTHING in the world could contend with it as a weapons delivery platform
Awesome video! With hundreds of TV channels these days, why in the heck isn't there at least one devoted to aviation-commercial and military? I'm sure there's enough interest.
I was an F-111D crew chief in the '70s & early '80s....one helluvan airplane when everything worked as advertised. But it could give you fits on the ground. I actually miss the sonuvabitch!
And to think..., I used to teach mechanics how to maintain these beautiful birds.

Nice one! cant help but it looks like a mixture of the tornado and the russian Su-30 (the two seater if I remember right).
But no surprise since the army bought so many european engeneers in former times.
