what a wonderful vid! The aged Monica reminiscing as the young Monica-beautiful then- sings about how things pass. Shows how some were wise even as they may have been young. As were Bill & Monica.....
I am now in love with this fabulous singer.. I never knew about her til I found this... So beautiful and elegant. lovely singing too...Strange she didnt get snapped up by hollywood!! x Like a singing Garbo! xx
"Born as Monica Nilsson in Hagfors, Värmland, Sweden, Zetterlund was a singer, particularly noted for her jazz work. She began by learning the classic jazz songs from radio and records, initially not knowing the language and what they sang about in English. She went for the melody, rhythm and feeling." WIKI
I cannot find the original journalistic source and do not recall if it was in an interview, album liner notes, or a review. Her WIKI page suggests she initially sang in English by "feeling," not understanding the language. That's logical. She had a translation and coach perhaps. I get help for my Italian and am RELIEVED when listeners speak to me Italian,
Well, shoot, I'll see if I saved my puter HISTORY that long. Her phrasing was so credible. I sing some Italian and typically get a translation so I know what I'm singing about...but the writer said she did not understand what she was singing. Will see if I can find that source. DeNeice
@Anoush23 Hes not famous today so you wont know. He was just playing sax in her band for a year or so. He have also told me all the stories about the problem she had with alcohol and they had to carry her out etc ;/ So sad. RIP Monica <3
@Anoush23 I have tried to find on the internet but there isnt anything. But nothing strange with that because there were manny people touring with her as her band. My grandad is like a event player for differente shows etc. So people hire him to play with bands/artists or on big events. So he got hired to play in her band for about a year. Its great to hear him talk about it and see some pictures that he got from it.
@ZandraBson well, you don't need to google your grandfather's name, do you? ;) I am just a big Music-Fan and wanted to see if I maybe know your granddad (name) :) Anyway-nice story!!!You can be really proud!!!
@Anoush23 No I dont have to? I just wanted to see if I found something about it on the internet but I didnt. Yeh I know what u mean. Thats great. Where are u from?
I'm very glad to finally hear the song sung to Bill Evans' arrangement. I have his wonderful version of the song on the "Time Remembered" CD, but despite my trying, I could never figure how the vocal places into it. Just beautiful! Thanks for posting.
Born in Switzerland?!? haha! No she's born in my province in SWEDEN! And you know the majority of Swedes are great at English. Varfor kan inte folk skilja pa Sverige och Schweiz?? Sa himla lika ar de val inte!
@EffortsatImprov Yes, looks like it's dated just a few years before she died. 2002-2004 or so. At 1:40 she says "There I looked confused", at 1:48 she realizes it was because Chuck and Bill didn't "mesh". At 2:15 she says "What am I doing now...!?" At 3:27: "God, how beutiful", then she says that the song in question isn't easy to sing, but that he made it easy for her to sing it. At the end the reporter said "Did you hear the sighs?" and she replied "Yes, and I understand them".
Hm. I heard this as a youngster in the year it was released, and rated it four and a half stars in a booklet I especially reserved for jazz recordings. Now, however, I would be less generous. Sorry.
This is one of the BEST jazz tracks ever laid down in history. I adore her. This has been one of my all time favorite tracks for years. THANK YOU FOR POSTING.
PURE NECTAR! Long live Monica & Bill... one of the greatest collaborations ever! Sheer beauty........ all words fail.......bless you for posting- this will help heal the universe.
This is what jazz is about. The Bill Evans on Verve collection has a MZ/BE CD on it and while listening it to death, but as great as the recording is, simply listening cannot compare to the audio-visual experience as a whole.
It's obvious that Chuck steadily focuses at Bill - trying to predict the next step. Playing in these slow tempi is extremely difficult and every time the bass hits the perfect tone it's honey for my soul.
Awh the story behind this most precious vid! I am thrilled to find this piece of history, so worthy of being persevered. MZ & BE collaboration, may just be one of the very finest tunes I've ever heard & now seen \O/
Bill solos @ 2:38-3:46 MZ reflecting "back in time", @ 3:21 re-capturing the beauty of Bill's exceptional chording gift
then @ 3:27 MZ sez: Herregud sa vakkert! What does that mean?
thank you EngelNr666 for the sharing. What a treasure \O/jp
At 1:28 Monica feels that Bill and Chuck do not agree and she explains her eye movements coming from that uncertainty. Soon after Bill sets in a caracteristic chord and Monica is on the track again

How can anyone not like this? Maybe they needed a car crash or king fu fighting or a Janet Jackson style dance troup to understand it.

@krige 0,00 I think my respect for him was very good.
0,06 Some other time? That was a tune that Bill suggested, and I loved it from the start.
1,39 There I looked confused
1,49 Because Chuck and Bill did not have the same opinon, that is why I looked so confused
2,15 What am I doing?
3,28 My God, how beautiful!
3,37 There he also made the arrangements(?). It in not easy to sing, but he made it easy.
5,35 Did you hear the sigh? Yes
5,41 I understand that. Was it the last tune? No, 1 more

RE:disagreement between Bill and Chuck creating confusion- there is not any evidence
of that on the video. Bill certainly knew what
he was doing and Chuck followed him perfectly
as always(notice absence of any music) so if
anybody was confused it wasn´t them.
