L messed up, he over looked and forgot about the very first clues that Light left behind. When Light was still experimenting on the DN, Light made his victims write letters of their suicide "L, do you know that gods of death love apples" If L had noticed that Riuk loves apples, he should have instantly came to the conclusion that Light was "100%" Kira, and would have arrested him. but he didn't... and in turn cost him his life =( (the way i see it, PEOPLE make mistakes. and L was just human too)

no he noticed that, but ryuk loving apples couldn't prove that LIGHT was involved. it may prove that ryuk was involved and the shinigami that the notes reffered to, but has no evidence that it was light that was making the killings. he knew that light was Kira but he had no hard evidence to prove it, he could have had Light executed but that would not have been justifiable. and justice is what he aimed for. do you see what i mean?
