its funny i was born in 1980 and i remember there song rise up. my mom singed it to me from the time i was 4 to about 8 years old . now this song i dident her until summer of 2009 . i came across it on galaxy remember the 80s and all i can say is thank god . great talent one off my favorite song even though it was made when i was only 4. the best part is there canadian and that makes me proud.
Met the band on Isla Mujeres the year they composed this .Song gets its title from an island temple to the Mayan goddess of fertility, water and happiness. Ironically the temple was partly destroyed (natural causes) just after the island got its freshwater delivered by a new hi-tech pipeline. Great song, fine people.
@dong2phat4u Good Idea except this group was trapped in a black hole of time in the recording industry. When this came out you had the following formats SINGLE LP 8 TRACK CASSETTE CD They never went to CD so unless someone buys the royalties and produces the CD it does not exist. This would be a great project for K TEL if they still had half the brains of Mickey Elfenbein in control . New technology is great just never be the first one to endorse it until it proves itself.
This is title track of the album. (I happen to somewhere have original Cass. I have all their music except "Big Big World") Personally I liked Small Victories best ,& have 2 copies.
Also Lorraine S solo CD, released after P.C breakup.
You should find an original copy on eBay. I have found orig music there.
(I may well sell off ,my massive collection in yr or so)
@djdollarwine I have posted the lyrics at the posting for the longer 12" version, which also has extended lyrics: 12" Parachute Club - At The Feet Of The Moon (12'' dance remix). What a great song by a great group, gone too soon and never got their due!
Great shit from the T.O. vault. i wonder if any member of the parachute club ever wore fashion from montreal's 80s PARACHUTE the same ones that fit Don Johnson in the later eps of Miami Vice.
@30301500 Go fuck yourself punk...And when you're done,,Tell that pig you call your mother,i say hi (rubbing my crotch)...Saw her last week on Hastings handing out free potato chips and condoms....If i recall correctly, she was muttering something like,,,,"Free Lays"....
@30301500 Girls (said in my best Mrs Garrett voice)! Why are you fighting? "Tell that pig you call your mother"? "What's the matter faggot"? SURELY you have something better to do than 'flame' each other...
This is just yet another of the songs I remember fondly from my childhood in the eighties. I must admit, I'm glad I'm Canadian--because I heard all the American hits at the time, and yet apparently I got to hear so many fabulous songs that the Americans missed out on. Hmm, I think they should open their minds, and their airwaves a bit...
Love the bass in this song. I remember in the US this was on a couple of times on MTV (back when they actually played videos) late at night. I used to record the videos and watch later. It stayed with me because of the beat and bass and because the video was different but very simple.
I used to hear this tune all the time growing up in Buffalo and then on the internet when I moved to DC when Martin Streak (RIP) of CFNY in TO would play it on Sunday Night Retro and I always liked it. Sadly Martins gone and Im unsure if those idiots at CFNY have carried on the tradition since he passed oh and after they fired him for no reason...idiots. great tune nonetheless from another Canuck group that deserved recognition outside of the Great White North.
They played in Brandon Manitoba on their "Rise up" tour (fall of 83?). My best friend was really liked Julie & Lorraine, so she decided to go there every night they were in town, i only went a couple of times. Great music and good memories!!
Saw them in 1989 at Nathan Philips Square in Toronto..and they were one seriously energetic bunch..fun to watch and we were all bouncing around like superballs..
I always regretted I never got to see them live but I still love their music and spirit. It's true they never got the attention here in the USA that they deserved. Long Live The Parachute Club!
I bought the album that contained this song in 1985. A few months later I was an exchange student at L.U. in Sudbury. One night I was at a club and it was wild, as an American, to all of the sudden hear this song on the jukebox but see people dancing to it. It's still a nice song after all these years.
Why were so many Canadian vids from the '80s into the interpretive artsy dance schtick. i guess it iwas cheaper to film since Canadian acts has way less video budgets than their U.S. and U.K. counterparts.
@offthelinegt AMEN IF U watched the making of northern lights ronnie hawkins said canadians have to work 2ce as hard to get recognition dont believe it i love them lived in mtl for 12 yrs get on w yo bad self :-}
@offthelinegt I beg to differ: I grew up on the US side of the border and loved to death the fact that the rest of the US didn't notice Canadian music--I had always thought that preserved it; kept it better. You guys don't need the slime the US produces oozing into your music.
@cochranexyz That's not necessary, we're not a bloody time capsule up here. True, we dont need the "slime" you speak of but we also dont need to be ignored
@offthelinegt "You Americans"? I'm quite sure that a lot of the Canadian bands that WERE popular in Canada were popular mainly because they HAD to be played on the (AM) radio... By the way, unless you're IN the music industry, you can't proud of a musical group. (That's rather like saying "I'm proud to live on Earth" or "I'm proud to buy groceries".)

Back in the day this cassette would run you $15.00 -$19.00
You were the man if you had Pioneer GM 120 amp and deck in your car cost $1000.00 -$1500.00.
Something similar with the same power at Wal Mart is $200-$300 today
People made a living jacking cassettes and ripping stereos
It was easier to steal the car than the stereo with all the security built in to the head unit
