Handover was in 2002/2003. I was there. 1997 was the year of end to British rule... HOWEVER. I'll restate it again.. there was a transition period.. The transition ended and OFFICIALLY became Chinese territory with special priveledges. I agree with most of this video - very important points of view, and mostly correct in my opinion, though I disagree with the "fuck westerns" attitude, and detest all nationalism. I especially agree that Tibet is part of China, and I deplore Westerns who think that Tibet should be ruled as a Theocracy under a dalai lama. We Westerners should in no way support such a feeble notion that gives political privileged and power to a religious order. Its shameful that so many of us do (NOT ME).

Have you even lived in a western country before? I have. The majority (80-90%) are good. You can't generalize because it's unfair to the good people. They didn't do anything to deserve to be hated.
When the good ones see you hating them, they might feel the need to hate you back, which in turn causing more and more people to join in both side. This snowball effect should be avoided.

MaoKupchen if you don't know how all ethnic groups live in China and I can tell you, I have friends from the Korean ethnic group in China and they are living a good life over there. Every country has the right to choose it's regime that will benefit itself, so Chinese (and I'm referring to all the ethnic groups that are living in China) don't need to be forced to accept the idea of Democracy, because it will only bring bad things.

Actually that's totally wrong. Nanjing Massacre happened 3 years before Pearl Harbor. There were still remnants of Nanjing happening when Roosevelt approached Japan and demanded they end their occupation. That move set in play Pearl Harbor.. So your welcome. Meanwhile during Nanjing Massacre the GreenZone (Primarily Westerners) was the only safe haven for most Chinese during Japanese Occupation.

Your right. Living there did not make more knowledgeable about it. Going to museums.. Attending the handover ceremony in 2003 and learning from my local friends there made me more knowledgeable. China ceded Hong Kong during Opium Wars as a 'free trade port' Japanese eventually raided and took over the island in 41 and kept it til 45 til Communist China took it back. It was til the 57 they 'officially' negotiated British rule on the island til 97. What's wrong with you? Oh. Your Canadian....

Handover was in 2002/2003. I was there. 1997 was the year of end to British rule... HOWEVER. I'll restate it again.. there was a transition period.. The transition ended and OFFICIALLY became Chinese territory with special priveledges.
