  • well, it sounds like where it's at, but it's played wrong.

  • the tremolo is amazing on these wurli

  • play intro to "No Quarter"!

  • Can anyone tell me what kind of electric piano Fela Kuti used to play on? If you're not familiar with his music, search on youtube for "let's start" by Fela Kuti.

  • @namehoela

Might be a Clavinet. That's the only one I can think of.

  • I love the wurly

  • That sounds so cool! I love the sound of a Wurlitzer electric piano! I hope to find the student or teacher's version that was used back in the 1970's where a set of these pianos were used in a class room.

  • Personally, I like the Rhodes better. The keys of the Wurlitzer were just a little too clinky. I though it was interesting how much more sound the keys produced with no amplifier as compared to the Rhodes.

    Both sound so unique!

  • i thought fender was great, this is too!

  • Oh how i dream about this.

  • practice or you will never sound any better

  • What plays better, a wurly or a rhodes?

  • @Donbon25

I suppose that depends on who's playing it.

(personally I much prefer the action on a wurlitzer)

  • Sounds like Where It's At by Beck.

  • @the1337n00b - yep it is

  • Sound of The Doors?

  • @43447

Yeah, it isn't uncommon. Grizzly Bear uses this piano as the main instrument on a few of their songs from their album that came out last year.

  • sounds like the eagles also

  • it sounds like "where its at" by Beck

  • "There's a destanation a littleupthe road from the habitaions of the towns we know!!"

  • what is the song at the beginning?

  • something by the doors

  • gah, so gorgeous!

  • The first part sounds like "the doors"

  • 'Talk-Show Host' is one of my favorite Radiohead songs, and I couldn't hear it in any of his playing.

  • Talk Show Host

  • No it's Radiohead

  • those chords are almost right... that song rocks though, shoulda played some supertramp!

  • Its not a piece of shit, its THE shit!

  • Ok. If you want i will come at your home and you could do a great Christmas present for me :P

  • well dude ya i would however im satanic but we can always have a blood orgy if ur into that kinda stuff

  • that first song i believe is a sabbath song. could be wrong but...

  • What was the first song he played?

  • i think its a beck song

  • Sounds like Where it's at by Beck

  • amazing tone

  • are these still being sold?

  • Anyone know if a Wurlitzer was used in the Radiohead song Paranoid Android?

  • definitely not. not in the recording of the album version anyway.

  • no, it wasn't

  • Johnny Greenwood used a Wurlitzer in much of In Rainbows, but it was a Rhodes in Paranoid Android I believe

  • i think there's something like it in subterranean homesick alien, either a wurlitzer or rhodes, though i think it's a rhodes, i believe ive seen it live, they seem to use it a great bit in their music.

  • where it's at?

  • same structure.

    but not quite.

  • i think the eagles used a wurlitzer on i cant tell you why

  • i like the part at 0:36 - becuz it sounds like that old wacthamacall it from Be Kind Rewind lol

  • I have a microkorg xl, I've only just realised this is what it reminded me of! The wurlitzer sound in it isn't a patch on the real thing!

  • dude the oldest record i've heard with a wurlitzer was "What'd I Say" from Ray Charles in 1959

  • i thought it was a fender rhodes..?

  • it was a wurlitzer, but even before that it was used on "NIght Time is the Right Time" by Ray Charles in 1958. However, in later years, Ray Charles did use a Fender Rhodes. A rhodes was used in the opening sequence of "ray" with jamie foxx during the what'd i say intro, but the recording with mr. charles is definitely a wurlitzer.

  • I think Richard Wright used it with a wah pedal for the Pink Floyd song "What do you want from me" from the album "The Division Bell". Was it really a Wurlitzer piano and a wah pedal?

  • He did often use a wurlitzer 200/200a with a wah pedal yes :)

  • Thanks. I really love this instrument's sound!

  • Your dad sucked when he was too drunk to remerber to use condom and made you!

  • great tone

  • Oh i guess it's a wurlitzer on Riders On The Storm

  • No, it's not. They used a Fender Rhodes, not Wurlitzer.

  • Sa-weet man nice groovin

  • They used this back in the day in the 1970s!

  • Was the beginning Ballad of a Thin Man?

  • I think so, yup.

  • whats the usual price for one of those these days?

  • around 1000$

  • super zound !!

  • Do these have to be mic'd to be played live or is there something else that can be done to make it direct?

  • The have a Aux out jack, just plug an amp in as you would a guitar.

  • Really? Cuz I saw one not too long ago and I never saw it. Where is it? I only had A limited view of the back of it.

  • Yeah mate, there are Auxillary and Phone jacks underneith, on the middle left hand side edge beside the Manufacturers plate. I just put my guitar amp in before and she sounds great, Especially with the effects!

  • Did you play the Break On Through riff? xD

  • Sounds like a very cripple version of Two turntables...

  • Thanks for the comments

The Wurlitzer sold on ebay. The songs my friend is playing starts with "Two Turntables and a Microphone" by Beck, then the intro to a Ray Charles song, after that I'm not sure. He plays by ear, so he's never seen the music for those songs. He just figures it out as he goes.

  • @winfahl Yes, it was that Beck song at the beginning, but I didn't remember it quite correctly (left out a few chords or notes!).

  • Nice playing, I like the very first riff best..is it from a song?

  • I want a Wurlitzer

  • very nice.
