  • The booing in the background made my day. I do love Jethro Tull though

  • Back when people gave a fuck about real music..

  • I love how after Metallica went on to win the first 3 of their 9 grammys, Lars said in the acceptance speech "Thank you Jethro Tull, for not releasing an album this year.."

  • this was 1989, because nobody can get it right...

  • at the beginning was that metallica playing one at the same show? what song did they play?

  • @MichaelHansenFUN Yeah they played One.

  • read wikipedia about this

also you should have shown the BOO'es...

  • Instead of Jethro Tull, Iggy Pop and Jane's Addiction, 89 nominees should have been Metallica: Justice, Maiden - Seventh Son, Queensryche - Mindcrime, and Ozzy - No Rest For The Wicked

  • lita ford reaction says it all

  • Metallica should hsve won that eith and justice to all

  • janes addiction is hard rock

jethro tull is Hard rock & Progressive rock

    Iggy Pop is hard rock

    ect...

  • ALICE COOPER ALLWAYS A PRANKSTER (they should have gotten ozzy to bite the head off the snake thrown back on stage) I have seen this for the first time here: THIS WAS 1990 right?!?!?! CREST OF A KNAVE was released in 1987?!?!?! THIS IS A "BEST HARD ROCK/METAL PERFORMANCE" so that is why JETHRO TULL was in here, they are HARD ROCK in a way, listen to AQUALUNG and you will see what i mean!!! READ WIKIPEDIA ABOUT "Crest of a Knave" and you will get a better understanding. Read Ozzys book about TULL

  • Jethro what???

  • Who da fuck is Jethro Tull ???

    Metallica FTW !!!

  • @Ge0rGi95 Maybe you too young to know one of the most influencial, original and rocking bands ever (or you're just to f*king stupid). Jethro Tull influenced Steve Harris, who is a huge Tull-fan. Who da f#ck is Moneytallica? Just some greedy b*st*rds suing all the world just to make more money.

  • @BTsar Maybe I am too young and you may call me stupid but to tell that Metallica are playing the music they love for money makes you the stupid one !!! I mean 30 Years rockin all over the planet !!! There will never be such a band as Metallica ... They have enought money if they want they can just stop play music but they love it and i respect them more than anything on this planet. Metallica influenced me and millions other people. Metallica for life !!!

  • Yeah, Jethro Tull won, but what worries me more is how the hell did Jane's Addiction get nominated???

  • @LeStigue janes addiction is hard rock.

  • @MichaelHansenFUN Yeah, right.

  • Haha :)

  • even lita ford thought it was fucked up when she shook her head after alice announced the winner

  • haha at 0:34 jasons like "move lars you fuckhead"

  • The grammies are returning back to combining hard rock and metal as one award yet again...so you get to see Foo Fighters, Sum 41, Dream Theater, and Megadeth in the same category. Also Mastodon but their song is more hard rock. I advise anyone that even has a soul left to AVOID the grammies at all cost...don't even watch another second of it. Tell anyone who has even a small interest for the award show to NOT watch it.

  • Well it was actually a "hard rock" grammy, not a "heavy metal" grammy, which is something that everybody always forgets when talking about this. Jethro Tull are of course not "metal", but they were definitely among the pioneers of "hard rock".

Also they didn't bother to come because they were told by their manager it wouldn't even be worth the time because there's no way they'd actually win against Metallica that year, and also because Ian Anderson hates stuff like the Grammy awards.

  • @Bystander81 I think the big mistake that was made was that the Grammy's initially lumped "Hard Rock" and "Heavy Metal" together into one category. It was "Hard Rock/Heavy Metal," which was just lazy on their part. They fixed it though when they split the category and gave Metallica a metal grammy the next year.

  • I just. Ow realized how much Steve Carrell and Alice Cooper look alike.

  • 0:34 his tongue again - You´re not "Gene Simmons" dude! .-)

  • @fortheloveoftunes is that supposed to be funny?

  • @MrDevilsass666 Give or take man .-)

  • Although Jethro Tull is a great band with extremely talented musicians, they never have played music that I would consider heavy metal. At least, the Jethro Tull tunes that I have heard.

  • This is proof the grammy's are a joke! I have nothing against Jethro Tull (this was not their fault), but as soon as your lead singer grabs a flute, stands on one leg and does a flute solo, you are NOT Metal. It doesn't matter if you have elements of Metal in "some" of your other songs or not.

  • @DeckHeaded learn to Ulver.

  • Some of Jethro Tulls music contains elements of hard rock and perhaps elements of heavy metal or at least parts of their music border on being heavy metal (for example the tracks Jump Start, Dark Ages, Minstrel in the Gallery or Kissing Willie). That said they can't be categorised as hard rock or metal. Simply put they can't be categorised at all because they have been known to mix so many styles such as folk, progressive rock, classical, blues etc.

  • Alice almost seemed upset about Tull being on the bill...

  • GRAMMY AND RNR HALL OF FAME ARE ALWAYS GONNA BE A FUCKING JOKE AND WILL NEVER REPRESENT WHAT MUSIC AND FANS FEEL AND LOVE.

  • i thawt itd be metallica

  • haha..even Lita Ford disagreed with the win.

  • I can't believe that fuckin band has won the grammy..

Metallica rulz with or without that fuckin prize!!!

  • I still like to know since when is that Jethro Tull is metal! .|.

  • @metalordamageinc since 1980, no kidding.

  • @metalordamageinc Also, the prize is for HARD ROCK/ Heavy Metal, and the song "Aqualung", from the album with the same name released in 1970 was already hard rock.

  • AHAHAHA!

look at his faces at 00:36 !

Even off stage they're awesome and funny, have a good sense of humor unlike other musicians who are arrogant! This guys rulez \m/

  • Why wasn't Britney in that category?

  • Gotta love how Jethro Tull didn't even show up.

  • 0:38 hahah esstan felices

  • @damianelrey Cerra el culo

  • @theulmmett cierrate el recto

  • every time you see metallica on the TV, they are making funny thing, EVERYTIME, thats why i love metallica... and for some much oter reasons

  • Good times, when Grammy awards used to be won by rock and metal artists. Good times, indeed...

  • MY GOD WHAT BIG HAIR!!!

  • I hate it when AC/DC gets underrated...AC/DC is hard rock and heavy metal there not just hard rock. AC/DC has heavy metal songs to.

  • @KingKelly1979

    AC/DC gets underrated?

  • if they wernt going to give it to metallica they should have at least given it to acdc

  • Metallica should have been so fuck'n pissed. Jethro Toll- you kidding me?

  • This was back when the Metal and Hard rock category was a major award. Now it's a second teir award that is not televised; and it's all going to go into a Hard Rock award only (no Metal category anymore).

  • How the hell can Jethro win best metal performance? Look at Aice face, he cant believe it too

  • If Ian Anderson was watching this at home he must have been thinking "Wait, WHAT!?"

  • Yeah Jethro Tull!!!

  • fuck that shit!! MetallicA rules

  • how old was Iggy then? 50? lol

  • EPIC FAIL!!!!!

  • what a fuckin joke. this whole music industry is worth shit. fuck u and die. metal up ur ass. it's still the same bullshit nowadays .fuck off!!!

  • Jethro Tull is clearly the best act that was nominated. Sorry if you metal heads can't accept that.

  • @zazozung Troll.

  • The biggest What The Fuck moment in metal, ever

  • First the grammy is a sad excuse for an award ,if not ,the rappers and disposable pop singers wouldn´t be there every single year... i have nothing against Jethro Tull , but Metallica should´ve won this thing .

  • That proves to me that the grammys suck Big Time What a bunch of Fools! Someone needs to be sued! Id rather watch The Country Music Awards then have to sit through a grammy ever again ! That also goes with the motion Picture awards What a bunch of Bunk! Cuz the ballgames fixed!

    thatalso goes with the

  • @treslunas that also goes for MTV awards , it SUCKS

  • Hey, Tony Iommi played for Jethro Tull (for about 3 weeks), that alone makes JT heavy metal!!!!!

  • @wtglb also iron maiden covered one of jethro tulls songs

  • Even Lita Ford was surprised that Metallica didn't win..

  • i'm sick of hearing people here saying that JT deserved the award, because they didn't. Metallica was the only metal band in the category and they should've won. AJFA was an awesome album, much better than COAK.

  • @dalzelljack I'm sick of people here saying that this award was for Metal bands only. They clearly say Hard Rock and Metal. Crest of a Knave is most definitely a Hard Rock album.

  • Is that Billy Crystal in the beginning?

  • Trong người ông này chắc phải có khoảng tầm 5 con rắn con và 18 con lươn to.....:)).....

  • But ridiculous grammys! Winner is ... and Justice for All! Jethro Tull Albums: Ministrel in the Gallery, Thick a as Brick, Heavy Horses, etc; not this album "Crest of a Knave" copia of Dire Straits!

  • Jethro fuck isn't metal!

  • idk metallica prob didnt notice cause they were starring at lita's hotness the whole time lol i dont blame um cause i had 2 rewatch the vid cause i wasnt paying attention to the talking :P but metallica werent angry they said it themselves they went there to party lol. still i guess its cause they hadnt hit mainstream yet but the black album made the grammys eat there words 4 sure.

  • Yo Metallica, I'm really happy for you, I'mma let you finish, but JETHRO had one of the best Albums of all time. One of the best albums of all time!

  • Comment removed

  • everyone gets really pissed at Jethro Tull because they 'stole' Metallica's grammy. Guys WAKE-UP!. It wasn't up to them. They thought it was stupid too (that's why they didn't even show). The grammys have been making mistakes since they were created. THE GRAMMYS SUCK, THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MUSIC; OF COURSE METALLICA DESERVED IT; IT WASN'T JETHRO TULL'S FAULT!

  • a haa..tull steal the prize..and well deserved..crest of a knave was an amazing album..

  • The clearly say "Hard Rock and Metal". Jethro Tull was definitely a hard rock band at the time.

Anyway, Jethro Tull is the better band, and definitely deserved is more, for what they have done for Rock and Metal music. Without them there probably wouldn't be bands like Iron Maiden etc. In that sense, probably wouldn't be any Metallica.

  • @sinbysin666 i sure agree..crest of a knave was an amazing album..one of their very best..

  • Kirk, James, Lars and Jason were probly frozen with mouths open. yeah right Janes Addiction, Iggy Pop and yeah Jethro Tull! are totally METAL

  • oh yeah every time i think of heavy metal i think of a guy in tights playing the flute and prancing about the stage.

  • I loved Lita's reaction @1:29

    Priceless!!! :-)

  • Jethro Tull is a great band, but they are not a metal band. Obviously...

  • @crazystarburyfan3

"And justice..." is good album, Metallica's last metal album, but Megadeth is still more thrash band then Lars and company.

  • @mettal2011 check the only documentary filmed about one of the "big four", Metallicas "some kind of monster", by bona fide film makers. Your boy mustaine sobs about everything he does is shit. The simple fact that Megafraud and the rest, signed up to open for metallica is their bow to the best. If they did it for the money, then they are literally sellouts, what has separated in their crowd minds from metallica and other band that actually sell records.

  • AC/DC is hard rock, Janes Addiction is alternative, Iggy is punk/alternative, Don't know what Jethro Tull is, but it's not metal. The Grammies showing out of touch they were and stillare

  • this is the only time grammy award were right .... jethro for life ... im sure till this day he is laughing his ass off obt that .. i mean if metallica werent posers i sure they would have forgotten about this award . its been like 25 years and still they cry abt it hahaha .. they should change the letter of poser to lars .. metaliica are lars

  • this is the only time grammy award were right .... jethro for life ... im sure till this day he is laughing his ass off obt that .. i mean if metallica werent posers i sure they would have forgotter about this award its been like 25 years and still they cry obt it hahaha .. they should change the letter of poser to lars .. metaliica are lars

  • lol alice cooper looks like steve carell

  • Metallica should've won by default considering none of the bands they were up against were even heavy metal bands or artists. AC/DC is hard rock, plain and simple. Jane's Addiction is hard to classify, but are very far off from being metal. Iggy Pop is in a class of his own, but generally, he's punk / hard rock. Jethro Tull couldn't even be classified as hard rock, let alone be anywhere in the vicinity of heavy metal. This further proves why awards ceremonies have no credibility in my eyes.

  • @NickMichalak Couldn't agree more about all the bands in the Metal category that year and I'm glad someone finally comes out and says that AC/DC is not Metal, but hard rock. Don't get me wrong, I love AC/DC, but they are just not Metal. It seems these days that any band that plays their guitar a little fast or hard that everybody wants to try and classify them as some type of Metal.

  • and my dick goes to...Jethro tull¡¡¡¡

  • There wasn't one person in the world who didn't say "WTF???" When they heard Jethro Tull's name.

  • This is considered as the greatest Grammy upsets. I don't care though. Metal doesn't care about Grammys.

  • METALLICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love how unimpressed Alice sounds as he reads out the winner and the look of, "I hope my good mate Iggy Pop wins!" as he reads out the nominations!!! Funny!!!

  • 1:25 even Alice was shocked but had to keep going.

  • BWAHAHAHHA!!! I love how tull won, Crest was tull's comeback album from their previous awful album underwraps.Maybe if it was one of metallica's first 3 album, I'd respect the argument.

  • Jethro Tull > Metallica. For true.

  • Bahaha this is great. I love Alice's surprised look. Both bands are awesome so stop the fucking arguing.

  • @SystematicChaos6 see in my opinion metallica should have won it because they r actually a heavy metal band and awsome when jethro is more or less a light rock to hard rock band and though i dont like them i respect them for doing what theyve been for all these years.

  • it says hard rock/heavy metal albums, um is jethro tull even considered hard rock?

  • To all you clueless Metallica fan boys, Jethro Tull is fucking awesome. Stupid ignorants.

But NONE of the bands on that list were metal except for Metallica, so they should have won the award.

  • i wish i was alive then. No matter how fucked up it sounds, Jethro Tull and Metallica are my two favourite bands, this would have been the greatest day of my life haha

  • Bwahaha i remember when this happened... Metallica was choked at how someone like Jethro Tull could win a "heavy metal" award...

Then again, Jethro Tull did make some strange music in their own right, so might as well give them an award since they didn't make anywhere NEAR as much cash as Metallica subsequently...

  • @heckler73 Yes. Because cash is important to everyone outside faux-rock stars like Metallica.

  • Jethro Tull WINS for not being a sellout! WOOT!

In 1988, if Cliff Burton was still alive, he would have said "if you guys start playing radio-friendly bullshit, I'm outta here. Cliff was the talent of the band. When he went, so did the band. "Enter Sandman" how fucking gay and soft. Fucking pop metal fags.

  • fucking "A" jethro tull finally recognized for there masterpiece album!! i remember it pissed off alot of my friends that were into metallica!! they are a good band but i'm more into the PROGRESSIVE tull, rush, elp, etc.!!

  • Comment removed

  • R.I.P. Cliff Burton. The only member of Metallica who was never a gay sell-out faggot. Bunch of pop-music, cover song -playing, napster cops. Nice make up Kirk

  • @zombies8u so you bashing metalica because your freinds told you too right? I mean thats the only possible thing, you are obviously hoping on the hipster bandwagon on this one. Oh and useing homophobic slurs isn't really a viable insult towards metal anymore, since Rob Halford announced he was gay.

  • Comment removed

  • i'm sorry but Metallica should've easily gotten this grammy.....people who think Master Of Puppets is their best album, ehh it's sick but not as good as lars showing up the critics with his double kick on ....And Justice For All and james singing i would say was the best on this album too. People who are Megadeth fans, look at ....And Justice For All then see what true metal was.

  • @crazystarburyfan3 um im not a megadeth fan boy ur your point it pointless true metal fans like both bands

  • @crazystarburyfan3 did you know that this became a running joke? "The best metal artist goes to: A guy who plays the flute..." This was when the metal jenre was added to the grammys. Everyone knew metallica or ACDC should have won but this showed the grammy people were clueless. Even jethro tull laughed over winning.

  • @crazystarburyfan3 I agree 100%. I've always liked Tull, but their music could almost be classified as pop, certainly not metal or even hard rock.

I remember this show, and the BOOs from the audience (which were edited out of many replays). If you go to the Grammy website for this award, you can easily tell where the editing took place.

  • @crazystarburyfan3 i've listened and justice for all and i respect metallica but rust in peace at least is more metal than any metallica record :)

  • @crazystarburyfan3 ur r sorely mistaken master of puppets is way better than justice and ride the lighting is way better than master and kll em all in my opinion is one of the most raw and thrashiest album of all time and is metallicas best. my fav band is megadeth and i still say to this date megadeth hasnt come ot with an album better than metallicas first 3 but have ether matched or come close.with peace sells youthanasia rust in peace endgame and so far so good so what

  • @crazystarburyfan3 is better than justice

  • @crazystarburyfan3 same here dude....ajfa is my fav album

  • @crazystarburyfan3 And Justice For All.. True Metal?

It was watered-down Radio Thrash. It's the Saint Anger of their Thrash years. Calling it "True Metal" is an insult to Metal.

  • @crazystarburyfan3 Speaking of Megadeth. Rust in Peace easily beats ...And Justice for All.

  • @crazystarburyfan3 I have nothing against megadeth, i mean I think they are an outstanding band its just I cant get into them forsome reason

  • @crazystarburyfan3 see your both right and wrong you got the part about metallica right but the megadeth hate wasn't needed i mean in these times it should be the crappy pop or R&B that we hate not eachother :/

  • @misterman2k9 trust me dude i saw both bands live and im not hating on anyone but i was just saying how metallica was more metal in their prime

  • Metallica lost because they're sell-outs who betrayed their original fans. Cliff's death ended the good music anyway.

  • @zombies8u

    You're a colossal moron.

  • @poopymcdoopy watch /watch?v=JoIKQdQ2gmE and see how gay they turned. Hammet looks like Michael Jackson. Metallica is Pop metal at its gayest. THEY SUCK AFTER PUPPETS.

  • @zombies8u

    Yep, you're still a moron.

  • @poopymcdoopy METAL N00B

  • @zombies8u

Wow, another typical wanna be metal elitist who bashes Metallica because it's the cool thing to do.

  • @poopymcdoopy Metallica dork. They've sucked corporate radio dick for the last two decades. Metallica is a prime example of what happens when you let money and market research decide what kind of music you produce. They are the Mickey Mouse of Metal. It's quite sad how they sold out and started pushing cover tunes to get ahead. :/

    POP METAL

  • @zombies8u

Pushed cover tunes to get ahead? God damn, could you be anymore of an idiot? I seriously doubt it. I'm sure you'll prove me wrong though.

  • @poopymcdoopy I bought Ride The Lightening when it was released. That's how far back I go with Metallica. I didn't wait for MTV to tell me about them. THERE ARE NO GRAMMYS IN METAL.. Even attending a mainstream music function (if not to crash it) goes against all metal logic. Do you know anything about metal, or are you too country to understand?....Enjoy your McMetallica and fries.

  • @zombies8u

Yep, you suprised me with a showcase of being a bigger moron than I thought possible. Congrats, you're not as metal as you think you are, big guy.

  • @zombies8u

r u stupid, have u actually herd pop metal. I guess youre so used to thrash metal you forgot what pop metal really is, i really dont blame you. but dont say metallica is pop metal because theyve made becomes close to it.

  • @Jganon93 If you turn on the radio and you hear metal, it's Pop Metal. (commercial radio = pop) Real metal gets little or no radio play by it's very nature, and it's healthy because of it. When you pussy-out for radio-play, you're a pop band. Period.

  • @zombies8u

haha thats a shame you must have some shitty ass radio stations where u live. i feel sorry for u

  • @zombies8u

does it hurt to be such and idiot?

  • @zombies8u 100% Correct!

  • the grammy awards is garbage!! metallica was supposed to win this is bullshit

  • @xxFzeroxx i knowJethro Tull is not metal i spit on some ass hole who thought that he deserve this award

  • @XXSUICIDEXX666

Jethro Tull sucks it's old ppl music

  • @xxFzeroxx i know that

  • @XXSUICIDEXX666

    ok...

  • @XXSUICIDEXX666 You, sir, are a piece of shit.

  • @xxFzeroxx jethro tull made a better album then metallica did

  • lol Batman guy is opening for alice cooper

  • all 3 but jehtro tull are metal seriously wtf!?!?!

  • @CrushedJustice the award was for heavy metal/ hardrock and jethro tull's album was under the hard rock album and it just happened to be a better album then the rest

  • @anything777656 uh Jethro Tull is no where near hard rock or heavy metal they are just regular rock and maybe soft rock

  • Oh ! Iggy Pop is still Alive ??? - sorry, but i thought He was dying...so i be happy that he still live...

  • 1:25 alice goes what?

  • The reason why Jethro Tull were considered heavy metal, is that they don't belong to any genre.

    They are unique!!!

  • Whoah! Billy Crystal!!

  • The reason that Metallica fans outnumber Tull fans is because they have not been given the opportunity to listen to some of Tull's master concept albums like Thick As A Brick and Aqualung. The day that Metallica fans discover the music of Jethro Tull is the day that Metallica would be forgotten forever!!

  • Comment removed

  • hhahahha... they prob didnt go because they didnt expect to win... wow.. i didnt know acdc were nominated too.. tallica should have won

  • To be honest. I think Jethro Tull is more advanced and progressive then the other bands,

  • Now the douchenozzles the grammys dont give rock/metal any just due. Too busy catering to the hip hop element. F&#K em! They have been cluless since day
